Chapter 56 - Making the second necessity of humanity

Kivrah was busy helping the cordage group, now called the crafting group, in making arrows. He poured his attention on making the arrows.

Crafting it with precision and passion. Then he heard a call coming from the west.

“Father, we are looking for you.” Kivrah looked to his right, and his eyes widened.

“You all looked good on that leather!” Kivrah exclaimed and stood up.

Kivrah starts touching the tunic Civ currently wears. It was softer compared to the animal

skin they currently have. He looked at his son with a smile of intention.

“Do not worry Father. Vel will be responsible for making the clothes for you and Shaman Mashu.” Civ replied, and Vel respectfully bowed to Kivrah.

“That is great! You said clothes? What is that?” Kivrah leaned forward.

“It’s the word we will call for this type of covering. It’s the same as the animal skin we are using. But a better, and more comfortable covering.” Civ explained.

Kivrah nodded. Upon further inspection of the leggings, Kivrah was more amazed.

‘It covers almost all of the body.’ Kivrah's eyes sparked.

He is aware that most of them have scars or scratches from walking in the forest. Especially the hunting and firewood group. Making these clothes will give them additional protection when going outside.

“I undstard Son. Thank you for making this. When can I expect my clothes?” Kivrah asked.

“It will be done by tomorrow, Tribe leader.” Vel replied proudly.

Kivrah was elated. “Yes, please find me if you created it.”

“By your command, Tribe leader.” Vel bowed again.

“Father, we will need you first before making the clothes,” Civ asked his father, and Vel walked forward.

“Vel will make some measurements of your body. That will be his basis to make the clothes.” Civ explained while Vel was starting to measure Kivrah.

“Oh so all of these needed to be created per person?” Kivrah asked.

“For now, yes. Since we need to be precise. Any excess might be a waste of material.” Civ explained.

In modern times, we have multiple options for clothing sizes. It is because we have enough materials to spare for these. Civ needs to use as few materials as possible for the people.

When Vel got the measurements, they left.

Luk tagged along with Vel and Civ.

Then Civ tells them. “Follow me to the cave.”

When they arrived at the cave, Civ had them stand in front of the two basins that were covered in palm leaves.

“I believe you already know how we created the materials for these clothes we are wearing right?” Civ asked.

  Both of them nodded.

“Good. Vel, since I will be away tomorrow. Please take care of this.” Civ removes the leaves in the first basin, and it shows them the meaty smell from the basin.

Luk covered his nose. But Vel did not even flinch. He knows what Civ is asking him for.

“Leave it to me Civ. I will be taking care of these skins!” Vel replied with straight shoulders.

“Great. If the hair was already falling off, you can start removing it.” Civ continued to give Vel the exact process.

After their Civ explained to Vel what to do, he advises them to rest early today since Vel and Luk will be busy tomorrow. They agreed and just did some light work, such as stone knapping with Vel. While Luk practices shooting arrows until dark.

Having some time for himself. Civ decided to visit Shaman Mashu to continue learning the language of praise. Returning to the hut, Civ heard outside that the shaman was praying. So he slowly went inside. Waiting for the shaman to finish her prayer. Hearing the prayers, it was the same prayers Shaman Mashu prayed every before dark. Thanking the Goddess for making the tribe safe.

“How are you Oh Chosen One?” Shaman Mashu asked as she finished praying.

“I’m feeling great Shaman!” Civ responds to Shaman Mashu with a smile.

“Praise the Sun Goddess! How can I serve the great One?” Shaman Mashu asked.

“I was busy the past few days. So I want to learn more about the language of praise since I will be away tomorrow. ” Civ asked the Shaman as he bowed to her.

“Very well great One. Let me start with the words for communication and command.” Shaman Mashu proceeds.

Shaman Mashu listed the exact translations for words like stop, run, and find. It was harder compared to the initial lesson they had. Because he needs to remember these words. The lesson finished after dark.

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“That is all I can teach you, our Chosen One. The Goddess will guide you for anything you will need. Just pray to Her.” Shaman Mashu explained.

‘That’s all. I thought it would be more.’ But thinking more about it, it makes sense. Their tribe doesn’t need more words aside from keeping the group in order and safe. This world, from his perspective, is just blossoming.

‘The Goddess will guide me? I will look forward to it.’ Civ prepares to stand up. But Shaman Mashu tells him something.

“Be safe on your task Oh Chosen One. Please prepare as many things as you need. I will make sure to calm down your Father if you do not return tomorrow.” Shaman Mashu respectfully bowed to Civ.

Civ froze from where he was sitting. ‘How does Shaman know?!’

With the plan in sight, Civ did not mention that he would need more time or days to find the giants. The key to his strategy is to know their enemy. He needs to find them in order to plan the defense correctly.

“Ho-how did you know Shaman?” Civ asked while a cold sweat was running down his temples.

“The Goddess told it to me in my dream. She said to guide the tribe in the moment of panic while you are away.” Shaman Mashu explained.

‘Huh, how? It was just a sentence, a few words! But she already assumes that we will not return right away?!’ Civ takes a deep breath to calm himself down.

Instead of asking more, he replied with honesty.

“Thank you Shaman Mashu. Please look out for the tribe while Luk and I are away.” Civ bowed with respect.

When Civ left the hut, it was already dark. The tribe was still lively, and smiles were everywhere. They reminisce about the previous battles they and others did not participate in. The night was quieter than usual because of the migration of the animals. But the laughs and murmurs from the tribe filled this silent night. Hoping for a better tomorrow.

When he arrived at the hut, Luk was already sleeping. While Kivrah, Arsh, and Horm were waiting for him.

Kivrah handed him a dried piece of meat and asked. “Son, how was your conversation with Shaman Mashu?”

Civ sat down next to his father while chewing the meat, and he replied. “It was great Father. I learned a lot about the language of praise!”

“Great! Hopefully, it will help you in the future.” Kivrah smiled, then he grabbed his son on his shoulders.

“Are you prepared for tomorrow?” Kivrah asks his son in a heavy tone.

“Yes Father. This is something we need to do to protect our tribe.” Civ replied while looking at everyone.

“Will you and Luk be enough? Why don’t you bring some from the hunting group?” Arsh asked.

“We need to keep the search group small. If the scouting group is bigger, it will be hard to escape from the giants.” Civ explained.

What Civ wanted to avoid is if there is any danger. One should be able to leave in a safe place to report it to the tribe. If they are in a group, it will be very difficult since everyone wants to save everyone. Also, he was a bit worried about the camp when he left.

But Arsh replied, “I can join-”

“That is enough Arsh. I need you here to help the Tribe leader.” Civ replied with a shaken voice.

Arsh took a deep breath and did not reply.

Noticing the heavy atmosphere, Horm reported to the group. “Everyone, we have already gone further in the east. Based on what we observed, it seems the path to the east is also safe.”

“That is great. I guess you and the firewood group will accompany Luk and I tomorrow.” Civ asked.

“It will be our great Civ!” Horm replied.

The group continued to discuss the topics to improve the camp. Kivrah left early since he felt sleepy already. Arsh Horm and Civ continued their discussion until they fell asleep.

The next day, early in the morning, Civ and Luk woke up at the same time. They start packing the things they need and do some light exercise to warm up.

What the group agreed on is that Civ and Luk will leave the camp early. They will be accompanied by the firewood team until the location where the group can reach. This served as a border. It was the farthest area that the firewood team could wander without getting lost.

Luk and Civ finished the things they wanted to prepare. What they brought was a handheld spear, a bow, and arrows that were wrapped around the spear. Some dried meat, in Civ’s calculation, is a food good for 3 - 4 days. This is necessary in case they get lost. He wrapped it in a leaf. Then tied it in a cordage and placed it around his waist.

‘We don’t have enough materials for the other item. ’ Civ wants it prepared before the search. But the leather they have is not enough. Since they need to provide the Tribe leader and Shaman Mashu with new clothes made in leather. The remaining leather is enough for two full-body clothes.

“Everything is ready Luk?” Civ asked.

“Yes Civ. I have everything.” Luk nodded.

“Oh right, before I forgot.” Civ grabs the three waterskins.

He handed one of the waterskins to Luk

“Here, this is your waterskin. Let me show you how to use it.” Civ starts walking to the jar with water.

“Waterskin?” Luk followed Civ and observed what he was doing.

Removing the stopper, he emptied the water inside. Then he filled a new water.

“Woah! That will hold water?!” Luk's eyes brightened.

Having this item. Luk believes that it tremendously helps the firewood team. Especially to expand their travel and gathering materials. One of the main reasons why the firewood team mentions their limitation of travel is due to water. When they get thirsty and no river around, they will return to the camp to drink.

They can eat all they want of what they saw around the forest. But they will still get thirsty and need to return to the camp.

Luk looked at Civ with excitement. “This is a great item Civ! Will the firewood team get theirs too?”

Luk followed what Civ did. He emptied his waterskin and refilled it.

“Yes, after the boar skins that Vel will make are ready to be processed into leather. That will be the item we will create.” Civ explained.

Hearing this made Luk happy. “That is good to hear. If I can help, let me know.”

“Don’t worry Luk, your help will be needed.” Civ smiled, but Luk felt a chill in his spine.

“Son, how were your preparations?” Kivrah appeared, coming from the middle of the camp.

“We are ready to depart Father. Also, please see this. This is for you.” Civ handed him the waterskin.

“You can remove the wood in the opening.” Civ showed it to Kivrah, and Kivrah followed what Civ did.

When he looked inside, it was water.

‘This thing holds water?!’ Kivrah's eyes widened.

He looked at his son. “Thank you Son. Looking at this item, this will be a great help for the firewood team. For now, I will have Horm use this. What will you name this item?”

“The name will be Waterskin. Since it can be cold water, and was made from animal skin.” Civ replied with a smile.

  “Waterskin.” Kivrah caresses his chin.

Seeing the potential of the waterskin. One of the things that greatly helps this item will be long travels. If everyone has this, they can travel more.

“Amazing work Son! I pray to Son Godess that both of you will be safe.” Kivrah patted his son’s shoulder.

“Thank you Father. Now.” Civ grabbed his weapons and looked to the east.

Horm and the firewood team were also ready. As the sky started to brighten, a mix of excitement and concern was what everyone was feeling.

  Civ smiled and shouted.

“For the safety of the tribe. Let’s depart!”
