Chapter 44: High-Tech Strike

Farfield City was silent in the dead of night.

Only the night watchmen roamed the four streets, east, west, south, and north. The residents of the outer city had already turned off their lights. The lasting yearning malice tormented them, so they needed to sleep early to regain their energy.

Inside his room, Romeo lay in a reclining chair, eyes closed, his brow somewhat furrowed.

The sudden arrival of the black-robed figure messed up his plans and left him upset. Even lying in the chair, he felt like on pins and needles, as if something vital was about to happen.

Suddenly, a loud creak echoed from the roof, startling Romeo, who lay in the reclining chair. His eyes snapped open, and his gaze was fixed on the sound.

  "Who?"

With a loud scream, Romeo rolled to the side right away and threw the tambourine he had been holding towards the roof. After that, the tambourine turned into a flash of cold light. It pierced the roof tiles with a loud in the quiet night. The shattered tiles crashed onto the floor, making a loud crackling noise. A hole the size of a human head appeared in the roof.

Romeo stared at the hole in the roof. Instead of seeing a figure fall, he saw a strange, slender cylinder. Romeo watched the object roll towards him with wide eyes, sneering. He calmly covered his mouth and nose, holding his breath. Then, he retreated like a bat out of hell, wondering what idiot still used poison gas in this era.

A dull explosion rang out from the house, followed by Romeo's scream.

"Ahhhhh! My eyes!!!" The moment Romeo screamed, a figure tumbled down from the hole in the roof, landing steadily on the floor. He dressed black outfit, a Tang Dao slung at his waist. It was none other than Stirling, the one who had just left in the dark!

Stirling saw Romeo staggering back and forth in the room, covering his eyes. Right now, he felt everything under control; then he pulled out a Malice-breaking orb from his bosom. This orb was one of the two given to Stirling by the Kim Dojo. To create a discrepancy and then paralyze the rival, Stirling figured out a way. He held off on using the enhanced Malice-breaking orb at the beginning. This was part of his plan. As soon as he pulled the ordinary Malice-breaking Orb from his bosom, Stirling felt a tug from the air. His brows raised, assuring him that this Romeo was a worshipper. This blind man could be the mastermind behind the recent Pathos malice incident in the outer city.

"Who?! Who the hell are you?! Do you even know what you're doing?!" Romeo was depressed as if he had eaten three pounds of shit. He had just seen the strange object explode before him, and then he lost all his vision. It felt like Lux's Q skill — Light Binding, struck him head-on. He was honored to become the first person ever to see a flashbang with his eyes open in this world! Romeo saw only a blur of white. His ears rang too, but he sensed someone jumping from the rooftop. Then he screamed.

Stirling watched Romeo almost break down. He said nothing but tossed the bursting orb towards him. Next, the orb whistled towards Romeo like a bullet. At this moment, Romeo finally reached the wall, leaning against it, panting. As he was about to offer some more words to buy time, a sudden wind blew him, and he glanced forward. The bursting orb hit Romeo's shoulder with a thud. Blood splattered, and an invisible wave burst forth.

"Malice-breaking Orb!" Romeo, leaning against the wall, seemed to realize what hit him. He froze for a moment, his expression turning red with resentment.

"A dog from the Night Watch?!" Romeo screamed as the hair tie behind his head suddenly peeled off. His long brown hair, untouched by the wind, twisted and swirled in front of him, forming a shield-like shape.

The ripples from the blasting orb hit the hair shield, making a dull crackling sound. A flash of fire erupted across the room, illuminating Stirling's stunned eyes.

What the fuck!? Could hair be used in this way? This is the superpower of Pathos worshippers?! Stirling didn't hesitate. He pulled out two more blasting Orbs and swung them at Romeo. Two bursting orbs zipped penetrated Romeo's hair shield like arrows. Then, two more explosions followed.

Each explosion grew severer, the last especially so, that it shook the house's beams. Romeo screamed, and within the firelight, a heavy object fell with a thud.

Stirling kept a close eye on the flames before him, not moving forward to investigate. Instead, he produced a fourth bursting orb. This time, the bursting orb in Stirling's hand didn't have strong a pulling force as the last three had. This surprised him a bit.

Dead? Stirling held the bursting orb and waited for the flames to fade, not stepping closer to look.

After about ten minutes, the flames went out. The room returned to darkness and silence. A few rays of moonlight slipped through the roof crack. Stirling could see the scene clearly ahead. On the pitch-black ground lay a charred figure. It stayed still, its body much smaller, like a dehydrated chicken on a charcoal grill. How heartbreaking it was!

Stirling, yet, remained expressionless as he watched the scene, not moving an inch.

"Get up! Stop pretending to be dead!" Stirling scoffed.

It was not a shot in the dark this time, not Stirling testing Romeo's status with words. It was because, since the flames had gone out, Stirling had seen no pop-up notifications. No lifespan increase reward until now. Remember, when he had killed the Monk Green, a message had popped up.

Stirling wasn't sure why the Malice-breaking Orb in his hand had stopped working. Still, he believed the charred Romeo in front of him was alive.

One breath, two, three... The air was so still that one could hear a silver needle dropping to the ground. Stirling, sure that Romeo was pretending to be dead, stayed still, unwavering. Finally, the charred figure suddenly leaped up from its spot and lunged at Stirling.

"It's you!! You damned bastard!!! I should have ...".

A gunshot rang out, and Romeo's body flew backward, landing hard on the ground. His eyes widened on his withered face as he glared fiercely at the invader. As if he wanted to glare Stirling to death.

" My bullets never miss." A leisurely voice raised.
