It’s been a couple days since that day, and Emma stood in her room to figure out what she could do to murder her friend. As the pencil graced the page, many ideas of killing Amelia flew through Emma’s mind. Tapping her foot on the floor, she was a bit stumped. Despite having many ideas, none of them were good enough to execute, especially when most of them would eventually lead to her being seen as the culprit. Emma couldn't help but groan. This felt wrong on so many levels, but at the same time, she felt like this was some sort of need she had to complete, even if it was pretty terrible. Miles peeked through her door and spoke up.
“Hey, is everything good over here?” he asked, which made Emma flinch, but she quickly put her paper and pencil away in her cabinet. She tried her best to act normal and tried to act all tender and sweet.
“H-hey baby, uh… How did you get past the cameras here? Usually boys aren't supposed to be here at the women's dorms.” Emma said, but immediately realized how mean that sounded and backtracked on her words.
“N-not that I’m not glad you're here, I’m just surprised is all…” She rubbed her neck in embarrassment that Miles easily squashed with a hand on her cheek.
“Calm down, sleepyface. I’m very sneaky. The cameras wish they could catch me.” Miles said confidently. Emma pouted at the nickname “sleepyface.” That’s very embarrassing. She swatted off his hand but quickly gave him a hug and smiled at him.
“You sneaky idiot,” she said, but there was no bark in it. They both sat on her bed for a bit, just talking. Emma talked about her dreams and such, while Miles listened. He was very good at that. One of the few that Emma actually trusted to listen and not joke about it. Miles was perfect for her. Too perfect for her sometimes.
“So did you hear about the news?” Miles asked which Emma tilted her head in confusion from.
“Heard what?” Emma inquired. Miles scratched his neck and sighed.
“Amelia got into a fight with some random guy,” he said. Emma's eyes widened at his words. Amelia arguing with someone? That’s something you don't hear every day. Although, there was a part of Emma who felt her heart beat quicken as if this was her chance in some way.
“Why did she get into a fight? Who was this guy?” Emma asked, slightly worried for her friend. Miles laid back slightly on the wall of the bed and explained,
“Well, this guy was named Gregory or something. He was apparently picking on some girl named Hazel who Amelia was friends with, and she got angry and argued with the guy until one of the professors broke it up.” Emma nodded with some understanding.
“The guy sounds like a real asshole. We’re adults and that guy is acting like a huge child.” Emma said, crossing her arms, which Miles nodded to.
“Yeah. I know that guy a bit. He’s pretty messed up in the head, so just keep watch of this guy. He’s got green hair and dark eye bags. You can’t miss him. He sticks out like a sore thumb. He is a real weirdo.” Miles uttered. Emma nodded in agreement before resting her head on Miles' shoulder. Miles patted her head with a smile, which Emma paid back with her own. Although, she wasn't thinking much of the head pat and more of the fight with Amelia and Gregory. Maybe she can use that to her advantage. All she needed to do was make a plan that would lead to Gregory getting in trouble over her, although any plan was going to work in her favor if the blame was set on Gregory. Around the time it got dark, Miles left her room, and she took out the piece of paper again and decided to come up with a new plan.
“Step 1: Bring Amelia to the top of the building.” She felt the ideas flow through her head.
“Step 2: Once she is distracted, quickly push her off the building.” She felt her heart race after that one.
“Step 3: When no one is looking, grab her organs out of her stomach, and bring her to the side somewhere.” Emma felt her heart hurt as she wrote those words, but the ideas were passing through, so she couldn't let her emotions get to her right now.
“Step 4: Lie. If anything comes up, lie and blame Gregory.” She finished writing and placed her pencil down and read the paper again. She rolled up the piece of paper and placed it in her pocket. She needed to get these supplies for this mission; she just didn't know when to do it. Pacing around her room, her eyes weary and nervous. She knew all the necessary items to bring, but her heartbeat was fast, and she felt like crying. Is this really what she wanted to do? A part of her told her this was terrible and wrong, but the other part of her, or well, the other her, told her otherwise.
“You have to do this. No matter how wrong or scary this may seem, once it’s over you’ll feel ok again, and you’ll feel whole too. I wouldn't lie to myself,” the other one said. Emma sighed back in response, trying to calm her nerves down. She nodded and started to snoop around her room for a bag and anything sharp. All she had was a regular knife with a bag suitable for this job. She put on a black sweater and blue pants, which is quite common for everyone to wear, and made her hair into a bun so it wouldn't feel like her neck was on fire. She put on some black gloves and then placed the knife in the bag and tied it up. She strapped it on her back and walked to her door and outside of the dorms. Her first stop was to Amelia’s dorm. She didn't really know if she was there, since Amelia loves to be in the art room with many of her art friends. As Emma thought about that, she accidentally bumped into someone.

“Hey!” she said angrily, before her expression changed into a sympathetic one when she saw Hazel on the floor, covering herself with her arm. Emma sighed and kneeled down to Hazel’s level.
“Sorry, Hazel, I didn't know it was you.” She said, extending her hand to the poor girl. Hazel softened up a bit before taking Emma’s hand and standing up. Hazel fixed her hair and responded,
“Hey Emma. What are you doing here?” Emma tried to act all innocent, or as innocent as someone with a knife in their bag could be.
“Oh, I was just walking and taking a stroll. I can’t sleep, so I just thought maybe I could just walk,” she answered as Hazel nodded. Although feeling Emma’s aura was starting to make Hazel want to puke for some reason.
“So where are you heading off to?” Emma asked, which made Hazel snap back to normal.
“Oh, I was in Amelia’s room; we were painting each other’s nails and stuff. It was fun while it lasted,” she said softly. Emma nodded and smiled, feeling like her plan was going to actually happen.
“That’s cool. Well, I’m going to go for a walk now, so don't mind me! I’ll see you tomorrow!” Emma said, quickly walking away. Hazel looked in the direction Emma was heading and couldn't help but feel nervous. But why? She thought to herself. Something wasn't right with how Emma moved, like she knew something and was actively trying not to engage with anyone. It was something Hazel didn't like. But she didn't want to say anything, so she walked off. As Emma made it to Amelia’s room, she took one shaky sigh before knocking on the door. After a few seconds of quiet, the door opened and out came Amelia. Emma didn't know she was going to come out with nothing but a bra and white pajama pants, nor did she expect her to be built so mature, which made Emma slightly blush, but she immediately fixed her face and cleared her throat.
“Did I interrupt you with something?” Emma asked nervously. Amelia chuckled and shook her head.
“Nah, I was just getting ready for bed.” She said so nonchalantly, like being half naked in front of her friend was no big deal, but that didn't stop her from asking,
“What do you need?” Emma had to clear her mind before responding with,
“Ah, well, I just wanted to ask if you wanted to look up at the stars with me up on the roof. I heard up there, you get the best view of it, and I wanted to go with someone. Everybody didn't really want to go, even Miles!” Her mouth could not have been more filled with lies, but it looks like Amelia was falling for it.
“Hm, I mean, I don't mind. I’m not really tired, so I would love to go with you,” she said happily. Emma's smile grew, but for the wrong reasons. Amelia had put on a sweater and a scarf to keep herself warm as she and Emma walked down the empty hallways. As they reached the top of the building, Emma could feel her heart beating quickly. This was her moment. Her first kill. All this was so nerve-racking; she couldn't believe her plan was going so well. Amelia looked up to the sky and took note of its beautiful glow.
“It’s so beautiful. I could paint this place and its beauty in one of my art pieces.” Amelia said softly, which Emma nodded in agreement to. Amelia looked towards Emma and her slightly pink cheeks. Although sometimes with her you can never tell if she was cold or flustered or if that was what she looked like normally. Amelia’s eyes softened, and her smile couldn't have been more heartwarming.
“Hey, thanks for bringing me up here.” she said, moving her hair behind her ear. Emma nodded and said,
“Heh, well this is a thank you for that little therapy you gave me that day.” Emma rubbed the back of her neck, feeling her heart hurt from doing this. She really felt bad for this, and she was rethinking it all, but something told her to keep going. Amelia’s smile was warm, and she nodded.
“Of course, what are friends for after all?” She said happily before turning around and moving to the edge of the building to watch the view. This was going too well. Emma felt guilt weighing down on her as she felt like reconsidering everything. It wasn't until the other version of her came beside her and restated,
“I promise you, if you do this, they'll be with you forever, and all that pain they might go through will subside, and they’ll be much happier.” Emma closed her eyes, and with slight tears, she spoke up.
“Yeah, what are friends for?” She moved over to Amelia, and with one push, Amelia fell over the ledge. Her shock replaced what screams she could have had, and before Emma knew it. BOOM. The sound of blood and bones on the pavement was heard. Emma held her mouth, letting her tears drip from her face, all that guilt weighing down on her. Amelia was dead. She sat down on the floor, crying quietly. How could she have done this? Before she could even think about more, the other Emma tapped her arm.
“It’s ok. Hurry before anyone notices. Take her heart, before it stops completely!” she said. Emma wiped her tears and quickly ran downstairs. She was afraid of getting caught. Each person that walked the hall, she quickly hid from them until they were out of sight and she moved again. As she made it downstairs, she felt like she could hurl as she saw Amelia’s lifeless corpse on the floor. Her bones were sticking out of her skin, the blood was emerging and spreading around her, and her eyes that were a beautiful sparkling blue were now dark and lifeless even. Emma quickly kneeled down and took out the knife from her bag. She felt her heart race as she got ready to stab into the dead girl's skin. She was regretting everything, but she made it this far; she can't back down now. So with a stab, she went and cut open her friend. The sounds of the knife piercing through the skin made Emma sick, and she couldn't help but struggle to keep going with that smell of Amelia’s bloody body. But she pushed through and eventually was able to take out the poor girl's heart. She placed it in the bag and put the knife in her pocket. With one look at her friend for the last time, she quickly ran back to her room. She shut the door behind her and dropped her bag. Her heartbeat slowed down a bit. It was finally done and over. She took off her stained clothes and put them in the sink so she could handwash them herself, then she brought the heart to one of the stuffed animals. A bunny rabbit plush. She opened the plush with her knife, and once she finished, she put the heart inside the bunny and stitched it up. Once it was done, she put her ear up to the rabbit plush and listened for any resemblance of a heartbeat. She hoped at least for that if she couldn't hear Amelia’s voice. The silence was deafening until. The sound of a heartbeat appeared from the doll, and now Amelia was back once more.
