Amelia slowly lifted herself in bed, and looked at Lily and her bandaged head, “I can’t believe those bastards would hit a woman, let alone my girlfriend!” Amelia clenched her fists, “They won’t get away with this, not if I have anything to do about it!”
Amelia attempted to get out of bed, but Lily stopped her. “Amelia, you still need to rest!”
“Rest? But they’re still out there, probably preying on someone else, someone unable to protect themselves!”
“The entire city is after them as we speak! They can’t run for long, and when they catch them, they’ll bring them back to jail.”
“Yeah, brought back to jail, where they’ll just be released again! They told me I sent them to jail once, but for how long? Damnit I wish I knew who I was before all of this!” Amelia stopped struggling and lay in bed.
“What even makes me special enough to have a whole city chase after them? I’m just a spoiled princess who has everything because of her parents! Who…I never even got to meet.”
“Amelia, that’s enough!” Lily snapped. “What are you going to do if you find them, huh? Kill them? Or get yourself killed? Or end up in another coma? Is that what you want?”
“Of course not!”
“Then, start thinking rationally! You barely survived the fight today! If you want your revenge, then get stronger! If you want to stop being viewed as a spoiled princess, then prove them wrong!”
“You’re already strong. You just haven’t seen it yet. So, don’t throw away your life trying to prove it…”
“You’re right. Sorry, I got ahead of myself. I just want to protect you. I don’t want to lose everything again…”
“I know you want to protect me, but sometimes you have to learn to protect yourself first. It shows just how kind and selfless you are. Just like your siblings.”
“Siblings?” A smile formed on Amelia’s face. “I have siblings? That’s good to hear…”
“Don’t you want to know what they’re like?” Lily asked.
Amelia shook her head. “No, this time I’ll keep it a surprise. When do you think I’ll be able to meet them?”
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
“They’re both out of the country right now, so it may be awhile.”
“That’s okay,” Amelia smiled, “I’ll show them how strong I am whenever they come back.”
---
Once Amelia finished her recovery and exited the clinic. A crowd of people stood at the entrance waiting for her.
“Princess Amelia, is it true that you were able to fight off those gang members?”
“Amelia, have you made a full recovery?”
“Do your siblings know about all of this?”
Amelia’s head started spinning.
Lily quickly grabbed Amelia’s wrist and led her through the crowd, with them still asking questions.
She led Amelia to the carriage waiting outside the city entrance and closed the doors. The carriage started its way back to the castle, where they could be safe.
---
“I can’t believe all those people,” Lily said once they were back inside the castle. “Asking you all those questions right after they discharged you…”
“It seems like they’re just worried about me.” A smile formed on Amelia’s face. “Are you jealous?”
Lily blushed, “Jealous?!” Lily paused for a moment, “Is that such a bad thing to be…?”
“Not at all, it shows me you care…”
“Anyway… this entire ordeal is going to cause more issues than you realize. Things are going to move once again, since you’re back on your feet.”
“What things?” Amelia asked anxiously.
Lily hesitated. “Since your siblings are out of the country, foreign princes will start targeting you for political marriage.”
Amelia’s eyes widened. “Why would I choose them over you?”
“Because wars can start, and you can be the difference between peace and all-out chaos. So, because I know you, you will choose peace over war any day.”
Amelia chuckled. “Then you don’t know me that well…”
“What are you saying?”
Amelia’s smile faded. “I’m saying no one gets to choose my life for me. Not princes. Not kingdoms.”
She clenched her hands at her sides.
“If they try to control me, I’ll fight it. If they threaten this country, I’ll protect it.”
“All for you. Lily.”
“All for me? I…I’m not that important! Come on, I told you to think rationally!”
“I am thinking rationally, and that’s my final decision, whether you like it or not.”
“I see…” Lily paused. “How about we head to bed? Today’s been a long day for both of us…”
Amelia agreed.
---
Lily waited until Amelia was asleep, and gathered all of her belongings. “Sorry Amelia, I love you deeply, but this is what’s good for us both.” She then left a letter and left the castle.
