Things a Dragon Must Learn

  Zohar

Zohar had a feeling it was better that Lemon never found out the real reason he’d asked her to look through a couple sets of books for key phrases for him to dive into later. Zohar thought of the note that explained that Cronlen had in fact followed the agreement not to look for the girl sold to him so he would be keeping the payment Zohar gifted to him. Now thought he would be looking for her under the capacity of her mother’s child to handle another issue that arose.

Zohar had already sent out a request to know more about the issue. He was sure Cronlen knew Lemon was with him. And it would be truly foolish for him to attempt to touch anyone or anything in his hoard. Still Zohar had wanted Lemon to be safely and comfortably tucked in her hidden area with the snacks he’d acquired for her and the task to fill her time he’d thought up while Zohar went to accept his delivery.

Higorn was standing in the center thrall, though he was a rather small goblin none of the troll he shouted commands to ever faltered in listening to him.

Higorn sniffed the air with a large hooked nose and turned large bug eyes on Zohar and grinned with a large amount of sharp teeth. Zohar thought he only really remembered the goblin’s name because he was one of the very first… Acquaintances maybe was a apt term that Zohar discovered when he opened the shop. And in that time he never question whether Higorn offered him things at a ‘good value’ or ‘did him favors’ and with the knowledge that he wasn’t being robbed by the man, his mind flittered over smirked questions the goblin would ask him as if guiding his mind to a conclusion.

Higorn did that a lot, tried to teach Zohar things without telling him. Maybe that was why Zohar enjoyed tolerating him so much.

He didn’t in fact care as long as he wasn’t being robed the price that Higorn decided on but Zohar was curious how capable and correct his Lemon was.

“Zohar.” The goblin called happily jumping off the crate he used for height and walked over to Zohar who in turn squatted to better conversate. “Did everything on the list fit your preferences? Did you find anything interesting?” He asked grinning.

Zohar twitched trying to find the lesson in the question.

“I suppose so, but something was brought to my attention and it spike my interest.” He offered pulling out the notes. He couldn’t be sure this was the lesson that was being taught so he didn’t want to potentially brush away another possible lesson.

Higorn took the paper and read it over his smirk growing with each line. Zohar bounced a bit pleased that he was right that his Lemon was very capable. The goblin laughed.

“Who did you find? These are good.” He complimented folding them up and standing back.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

“Do you think you can negotiate like her?” The goblin asked in a challenge. Zohar perked.

“So, you were playing number games?” Zohar asked running the notes and items through his mind. The goblin shrugged.

“A bit here and there. I was wondering how long it would take you to notice this one.” He offered fully unconcerned waving a claw. Zohar nodded. It was a long lesson then. Zohar hummed and considered and tried what he’d noticed Lemon did. After a while the goblin changed the price on the sheet and produced a very large not at all polished crystal.

Zohar looked it over it hummed with hollowness in it’s energy core.

  “No magic.” Zohar offered.

“For now. It can hold energy. I’ve heard some rumors that being who you are you might need it soon.” Higorn offered. “No charge.” He added. Zohar nodded it would be useful in a bind if he could find a conversion spell. The Dragon elders hoarder them often because the spells were even harder to find then the crystals themselves. There was something he felt like was just evading his mind.

Zohar shook out the thought when Cronlen and a couple under his command pushed in.

“What do you want?” Higorn asked his nose wrinkling at the sight of Cronlen. Zohar’s favor for the goblin rose a bit. Cronlen glared at Higorn then fully dismissed his presence.

“Zohar.” He hissed out his mouth showing to at some point he’d replaced each of his teeth with pointed fangs. He waved the papers he’d sent requesting more information.

“It seems your pet’s mother has now stolen from me and skipped town.” Cronlen hissed. Zohar stared at the man.

“What does that have to do with Lemon?” He asked. Cronlen smirked.

“You never actually bought her you realize. Just paid for me to not look. I’m not aiming to get more money from you. I’m just letting you know that soon a lot of people are going to know where that con artist daughter is. And not half of them are going to know how to properly use her.” Cronlen offered the words like he was almost being helpful to Zohar. Zohar’s mind focused on anyone having the audacity to try and use Lemon.

“Do you or anyone else dare to threaten something under my claim?” Zohar asked his tone dipping and his skin crawling. He felt his blood heat and he knew his form threatened to break if he didn’t calm. Cronlen looked him over and chuckled.

“You don’t even know what you have do you?” Cronlen asked scoffing and shaking his head.

Zohar really didn’t like how patronizing the man sounded. He bared his teeth. A clap filled the air.

“And with that Cronlen. It’s time for you to leave.” Higorn commanded and every troll turned toward the smaller group. “Before I find myself unaware of what my men might be doing with their time.” The Goblin offered with a shrug.

Cronlen lifted his hands up in a surrender and turned toward the door. Zohar felt himself start to simmer down.

“I’ll get what I want sooner or later anyway. She can’t stay in the shop forever.” Cronlen offered. Zohar lost a bit of control on his form and faltered putting it pack up before anything burned. Higorn looked him over frowning then glanced to the stone.

“You need to shift soon.” Cronlen informed him. Zohar breathed in and out smoke leaving his nostrils.

“I should be fine for another day.” He insisted. A day to ensure Lemon was safe. To try and convince her to stay safe and contained just long enough for him to release the energy. How long would the books take? The goblin didn’t argue with him nor did he argue speeding up getting everything into his shop.
