Chapter 31: Greening the Iron Tree Hell

Although they had jumped straight to the Eighteenth Layer, to clear the remnant forces on each level (and lay the network cables), the two still had to sweep back up layer by layer.

Third Layer - Iron Tree Hell. It was a mess.

Because of Slayer's BFG shot earlier, all the iron trees in the central area of this layer had melted. But on the periphery, a dense metal jungle remained.

These iron trees were pitch black, every branch a sharp blade. The trees were hung full of groaning ghosts, and quite a few Gargoyles perched on the treetops, staring like vultures at the intruders below.

Slayer walked among these iron trees.

  Ding—

A leaf as sharp as a razor fell, scratching against his pauldron with a crisp sound.

  Slayer disliked this place.

The structure here was too complex, blocking lines of sight. And these trees... were too ugly. No leaves, only blades. Dead and lifeless.

A Gargoyle shrieked and dove from the treetop.

  Slayer raised his gun.

  BANG!

The Gargoyle was blasted to pieces. But the gunshot startled the entire forest. Countless red eyes lit up in the shadows of the trees.

"Big Hero, there are too many mobs here, and the terrain is against us!" Singularity looked at the signal bars on his tablet. "And the worst part is... No Signal! My cloud support can't connect!"

Because it was all metal trees, they formed a natural Faraday cage, shielding all spiritual signals.

Slayer looked at the iron trees around him.

He walked up to the thickest iron tree.

  Vrrrrm-Vrrrrm!

  Chainsaw engaged.

He didn't saw the tree down. Instead, he sawed off all those messy, barbed branches on the trunk used for hanging people.

  A few minutes later.

A torture tree that was originally hideous and terrifying turned into a bare, straight metal pole.

Slayer patted the pole and looked at Singularity.

Singularity was examining the material of this tree.

"This is... Nether Mystic Iron? Excellent conductivity! Spiritual power transmission rate 99%!"

  Singularity slapped his thigh.

"Big Hero! Stop sawing! Keep the trees, they're useful!"

Singularity pulled a large handful of glowing green rune stickers (signal amplifiers he made from jade and spirit stones) from his backpack.

"Stick this thing on the top of the tree!"

Although Slayer didn't know what the Daoist wanted to do, he understood the action: Climb up, stick something.

This was too easy for him.

Slayer put away his weapon, and like an agile ape (or rather, a heavy assault assassin), scramble-scramble-scramble, he climbed to the top of that bare iron pole.

He caught the rune Singularity threw up, and slap, stuck it on the treetop.

  Hum—!

The green rune activated instantly. The entire black iron tree, starting from the top, actually lit up with emerald green light.

The light spread down the trunk. The originally cold metal tree now looked like a glowing Christmas tree.

  [Signal Base Station: Activated.]

  [Coverage: 500 meters.]

  [Current Signal Strength: Full Bars.]

  Singularity's tablet lit up instantly.

"It works! These aren't iron trees; these are ready-made 5G Base Stations!"

"Big Hero! Continue! We need to light up this whole forest!"

Slayer seemed to think this was kind of interesting too. Turning these gloomy torture devices into glowing lighthouses looked much more pleasing to the eye.

The next hour turned into Slayer's parkour show.

He jumped and climbed through the iron tree forest.

Saw off barbs -> Stick rune -> Light up.

Any Gargoyles that tried to intercept were casually crushed or kicked away by him.

As Slayer moved, the dark Iron Tree Hell began to show patches of green sea of light.

The ghosts who were originally hung on the trees were let down by Slayer (since the barbs were sawed off). They looked up in amazement at the "leaves" emitting soft green light overhead.

  "This light... so warm..."

"Is this... the light of hope?"

Actually, that was high-intensity WiFi signal radiation.

  But that wasn't important.

When the last "Iron Tree King" located in the center area was lit up by Slayer.

The entire layer of Hell was bathed in green light.

Although they were still metal trees, the feeling now was completely different.

It was no longer a gloomy execution ground, but looked like a Cyberpunk Neon Forest.

Singularity stood under a tree, looking at the [Full Area Network Coverage 100%] displayed on his tablet, and snapped his fingers in satisfaction.

"Now, iron trees can blossom too (even if they bloom signal flowers)."

Slayer jumped down from the treetop, landing silently.

He looked up at this forest he had personally "Greened."

In his tactical visor, the screen full of red warnings (No Signal) had turned into a pleasing green.

  He nodded.

  Much easier on the eyes.

  "Punishment vs Communication."

Torture devices once used to torment the flesh had now become bridges connecting souls.

"Next chapter, Surveillance in the Mirror Hell. Since the net is up, should we install some cameras? Slayer says: I need full map vision."
