Chapter 24 | Loot Anywhere?

William searched around the area for any type of loot he could acquire. Anything for having defeated a roaming boss equivalent monster. If this were like any other story or game-like scenario, he should be receiving rewards for defeating such a difficult foe. Unlike the Death Knight, the Minotaur hadn't carried a weapon. Using brute strength, weight, and fists as its only advantages.

The longer he searched, the less he found.

The Roaming Boss had nothing but a loincloth on its body. He even jumped down into the tunnel and searched it for a few dozen steps in hopes of finding anything at all.

William ended up being sorely disappointed instead.

He had been hopeful to receive a blunt-type weapon from such a monster. Maybe horns or something else, even a club would've been fine. William looked back at the large dead body. There certainly wasn't anything left from its head for him to fashion out a weapon from. Nor was he about to carve it up for its organs and body parts. That felt a bit sacrilegious and disgusting. There was no way he was going to wade through a couple of tons of flesh, blood, and filthiness to get at its liver or its heart.

Just the thought of consuming or using that for any alchemic purposes sent a disgusting shiver down his back.

Not unless the system had a looting function to do all the nasty parts for him.

“Loot,” William said. “Loot corpse? Gather resources?”

William went on for the next couple minutes saying every word that was relatively close to what he wanted.

All in the hopes that it would save him a great amount of trouble.

Alas, nothing he said or did worked. He even put his hand on the corpse and said all the words he had thought up one more time. That didn’t work either.

He eventually resolved himself to his fate.

I am not going anywhere near a dead corpse. Loot only clear and obvious things that wont cover me in vile filth and blood–

William ducked as the ground shook again.

This time it was an explosion from the distance that made the area tremble and shake. He turned around in haste and jumped on top of a small mound of dirt and stone at the edge of the tunnel the Minotaur had erupted from. He looked in the direction of the explosion and found a fire surging in the distance with black smoke rising and obscuring the view of what the hell happened.

It looked like a small grenade had been set off and its firepower was sustained by magic for longer than necessary.

A fireball? Holy shit that's sweet as hell.

No matter how cool that was, he also understood that it likely meant the peoples he was going to end up encountering based on Zefor’s vague words were close by.

William needed to get out of this area and as far as possible before they made their way here. His battle against the Minotaur likely caught their attention with how much the monster was bellowing and shouting in pain.

It would not do to break the persona he wanted to build as a [Novice Knight Guardian] and expose himself as a multiclasser with two extremely powerful classes and two terrible ones. It wouldn’t be smart either to test whatever myths and rumors they potentially had on this subject matter. There were enough stories on earth about witches being burned just for basic sciences that gave him pause to do anything close to similar.

William needed to loop around as wide as possible and meet up with them sometime in the near future.

Then he had to figure out how to make his introduction and entrance into their circle so he could learn as much as he could about dungeons and the system itself.

All while leaning heavily on the alias Zefor had given him.

From a Domed Alcove and part of a super conservative family. I was thrown out because of a mistake he made after messing around where I didn’t belong. Eventually getting teleported in this dungeon without anyone explaining anything as a punishment.

Repeating the same exact story a hundredth time did not make it any easier to make it sound natural once it was time to explain himself when asked.

All while trying to not look suspicious when he was making a covert attempt to fish for more information.

William changed back to his [Novice Knight Guardian] class and pulled out his blade from the inventory. He swung it around, activating [Heavy Strike] a few times to get used to it again. It felt like it had been forever since he last cast it, considering most of the creatures here dropped dead before he could reasonably convince himself to bring it out and waste whatever precious mental energy he had.

He could already feel his mind straining at the edges after casting so many venom bullets and keeping his [Chained Lightning Domain] on for so long.

That’s enough. Time to get out here before they get too close.

William did exactly as he planned, looping around and dodging any monsters he noticed were rushing towards where he suspected the party of individuals were positioned. He kept going as far as he could expecting not to meet them for a couple of days longer. It would look a bit too suspicious to find a recently dead Roaming Boss and then the sudden appearance of a stranger who supposedly had no chance of surviving such an encounter within moments of each other.

In the meantime, he would start searching for potential loot within the area.

Any weapons or resources he could claim for himself. Entering a dungeon and not finding any loot felt wrong on so many levels.

  It irked him something fierce.

It should have been normal protocol to have resources and certain types of loot within every single dungeon, including drops from defeating monsters.

It was the way it was supposed to work, right?

Then again, how would the mechanics of that even happen in real life? What were dungeons and dragons anyways? Were they just another life form? Did they trap their inhabitants enslaving them to fight anything that entered? Or was there more to it?

William simply had too many questions to be answered in a short amount of time. Important questions he considered and thought about.

Hence the importance of getting together with this party and grilling them for as much knowledge as he could before leaving this dungeon.

Hopefully after defeating the final boss and finally finding himself some proper dungeon loot.

It took a while until he found a second dilapidated house that he could use as a base for when he eventually met the group. He would wait there until they arrived. In the meantime, he would allocate his stat points and level up one of his classes one more time.

Keeping his [Novice Knight Guardian] class to level 11 seemed like the way to go, because he wanted the boosts and stats more than he wanted to show others how strong he actually was.

Seven unallocated points would become available to him. It wass nothing to scoff at. So he did exactly that and leveled up his [YaKinov Venom Monarch Incarnation] class to level twelve, earning himself the stat points.

He dumped all of them into endurance to push it from fifty three to a nice round sixty.

All of his attributes were now clean numbers except for vitality at seventy five.

  Endurance - 60

  Vitality - 75

  Intelligence - 50

Man. Those level up costs are getting out of hand. An entire five hundred rune increase? How the hell do people level up in such a weak area or does it take decades to get to anything special? I’ve run through at least forty monsters, including a boss level Minotaur. There’s no way the average person would be doing the same thing without a broken system to boost them.
