Walking inside the Mercenary’s guild the first thing Damien noticed was the surplus of people inside, the room was packed full of all kinds of different people and races. Just from a simple look around Damien noticed people from the dwarf race, the elf race and what he assumed was some sort of fairy or pixie race.
Ignoring the people inside he took a look at the room itself to get a feel for the place, off to the side was a board which many people crowded around upon taking a closer look at it he saw many small pieces of paper had been pinned onto the board. Seeing this he figured that was where you picked which mission you wanted to go on.
To the right were many tables and chairs where people could chat and even eat and drink as they were being served food by waitresses one of which noticed Damien’s gaze and winked at him. Looking away for his safety he looked towards the center, a woman could be seen with a bored expression calmly tapping her desk as she addressed the clients in front of her.
“Sir, you failed the mission so that means you cannot attempt it again for another few months. If you keep testing my patience I will have you thrown out of here.” the woman calmly stated with a look of disdain on her face.
The man’s face tensed up and many veins started to appear on his forehead, “Do you know who I am? Or who my father is? For you’re own good I advise you to let me DO the quest again.”
Hearing the man's words, Damien examined him while remembering what Shade had said, ‘If someone here seems to be important, you should try your best to avoid getting into a confrontation with them.’ Remembering this, Damien wondered how this would go. Would the woman have to fight the man?
Suddenly the previously expressionless woman adopted a brilliant smile, “Listen, I don’t give two shits who you are or who your father is. This place is not something anyone has influence over, and I mean ANYONE, that includes the current king himself, if you had any brain cells at all, this is something you should already know about. With that in mind let me tell you what is going to happen now, I am going to have you thrown out of here, and not only that since you decided to threaten me as an employee of the guild I have the right to demote you in rank and even revoke your license as a mercenary… So tell me which one do you think I am going to choose, hmm?” Her smile became even wider, and even the man took a step back, causing him to bump into someone behind him.
Suddenly, the person behind him grabbed his shoulder and applied pressure, causing the man to fall onto one knee in pain, “JUST YOU WAIT! MY FATHER WILL BE HEARING ABOUT THIS!” the man screamed before being thrown out the door.
Once the nuisance was gone, the woman smiled victoriously, and people even started to clap and give her a thumbs up for how she handled the man. Everyone but Damien he still had a stunned look on his face while looking at the man who threw the spoiled brat out the door.
After the woman had finished talking, that person suddenly appeared behind the kid, and even Damien could not tell how he had done so. One moment, no one was there, the next…
A few minutes passed by before he finally snapped out of his reprieve, looking around, everyone ignored him and had went back to whatever it was they had been doing as if this was commonplace, and thinking about it that should be the case. After all shade had said only the strong here are looked at with respect, if you were weak no one would even glance your way especially if you were someone new like Damien.

Adopting a slight smile he shook his head before making his way over to the counter the man previously stood at, seeing him approach the woman glanced up once more and took a look at the person in front of her.
Her eyes wandered all over his body without holding back in the slightest, to the point Damien even felt a bit uncomfortable, ‘I'll give him an 8/10 for looks and a 5/10 for presence,’ she said in her mind before speaking aloud.
“Welcome to the Mercenary’s guild, this appears to be your first time here so I assume you want to get your license?”
Instead of responding, Damien simply nodded his head.
“Alright then in that case we are going to have to do a few tests so we can figure out what rank you are, the ranks are as follows. “Common, awakened, knight, legend, star, king, and finally emperor.”
“Are these ranks based on your actual rank of existence?” Damien asked.
“Mmmm, somewhat. For the first 4 ranks, it is possible for someone who is D rank to be a legend, although this is extremely rare, but still possible, as we have had 5 D ranks in the past who did so. However, above that, you would need to be c rank or above, and for the final rank of emperor, you need to be at least s rank.”
Damien nodded while taking the information in before asking another question, “What are you planning to test me on?”
The woman smiled at his question and stood up before motioning for him to follow, “The tests are fairly simple, first we will test the basics like your speed, strength, defense, and magic power. After that, we will do some slightly more advanced tests for your awareness and other senses. Also, I need to know what rank you are.”
Damien raised an eyebrow at this question, “Can’t you just use the system to figure out my rank?”
Suddenly she stopped and looked at Damien weirdly, “You’re not very familiar with our guild are you? Had you been you should know that we have a policy to not use the system whatsoever when dealing with our people.”
Hearing this Damien could not help but be surprised, ‘That seems like such a useless policy.’ What was the point of it? It’s not like them using that feature reveals anything crazy.
Seeing the confused expression the woman was not surprised, most people reacted the same way if they like Damien and were unfamiliar with the guild. To her however it was normal so she continued on her way without explaining the reason for this as even she was unaware.
Suddenly coming to a stop the woman pointed with her thumb to the door on the left of her, “Inside here you will find one of our people who will test your basics. Once you have finished they should lead you to the next test. Good luck… oh and my name is Maya, it was nice to meet you.” she said before reaching out to shake Damien’s hand.
“Damien.”
Maya smiled seeing his awkwardness before making her way back down the hall after watching Damien go inside. ‘I hope you get a good result otherwise I will have to find another person who is able to interest me.’ she thought to herself, as for what Damien had done to interest her that was unknown.
Back inside the room, Damien was looking around with interest, all kinds of machines could were strawn about and a lone man was sitting with his legs crossed seemingly in meditation. Instead of interrupting him, Damien waited patiently for him to finish.
Ten minutes later, the mans voice rang out, “I would like to thank you for waiting patiently, most people don’t have that sort of decency.”
Damien shook his head with a smile before saying, “It was nothing, I just did what I would like others to do for myself.”
The man smiled at his words, “That’s a good mindset to have, Anyway, I assume that girl Maya brought you here for the tests. Since that is the case, my name is Russel, in the event she did not tell you about the tests, my job is to test your basics. Any questions?”
“None at all, sir, my name is Damien by the way.”
Russel nodded before pointing to a machine in the left corner, “Let's test your strength first, shall we?”
