Chapter 2 - Abandoned

  (Sage's Point of View)

The following morning, I woke up on the floor, realizing I had passed out from crying the night before. I got up and walked to the bathroom, peering into the mirror. My eyes were puffy and red from all the tears. Suddenly, I felt a surge of anger—before I knew it, my hand was bleeding from punching the mirror.

I walked into the hallway, scanning my surroundings, trying to get my mind off things. When I noticed the walls that used to have our pictures were gone. I punched the wall, forgetting my hand was already cut, the blood dripping down the wall. I didn't have the energy to clean it off and continued to walk down the stairs.

Everything else in the house remained: the couches, the table, and the flowers we had bought a few weeks ago. I couldn't believe it—my mother had left me, leaving only a letter behind. I walked toward the living room, where the large flower vase stood. I put my hand against it, crying because it was my last good memory of my mother. Overwhelmed with emotion, I couldn't stop myself from breaking it. After shattering nearly everything in the house, I fell to the ground, holding my head in despair.

“Why do I always get so angry?” I mumbled.

I thought instead of taking my anger out on the house, I should find my mother. I headed upstairs to take a shower and got dressed. I went to my room to look up where my mother usually goes. I started pointing out where to start and decided to go to her job first.

My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a knock on the door. I rushed down the stairs and hurried to the door. When I opened it, I saw Rosie; her eyes were just as puffy as mine.

Rosie walked into the house, and I turned around towards her.

“What should we do now?” She asked, and I noticed she was holding onto an envelope.

“Rosie, in your letter,” I said, “Did your father mention anything about an unforeseen circumstance?” I asked.

Rosie nodded, “Let's find an officer”, Rosie said.

Before I could walk away, Rosie suddenly grabbed my hand.

“You can't go anywhere looking like this”, she said, as she held my hand up, my knuckles were covered in dried up blood.

After Rosie cleaned my wound and bandaged my right hand. We left the house and made our way to my car.

Fifteen minutes later, Rosie and I arrived at one of the local police stations. Upon entering the station, an officer immediately met Rosie and me.

“How may I help you, young ladies?" A tall-skinned man asked as he showed a friendly smile.

“We would like to report two missing persons,” I said,”

The officer looked, put his hand out toward his desk, and guided us to it.

“Missing person's report, I see; who are you trying to report missing?” he asked as he grabbed a notepad.

“My mother and her father,” I said as I pointed toward Rosie.

“Hmm, I'm going to need your parent's name. How long have they been missing?” he asked while writing.

“24 hours, and my dad's name is Nathan Williams, " Rosie said.

  The officer looked at Rosie.

“And your mother's name, ma'am?” He said, looking at me.

  “Peyton Young”, I responded.

I watched as the officer looked over at Rosie.

“And your father's name?” he asked.

  “Nathan Williams”, Rosie said.

“Any chance those two are dating?” the officer asked.

“No, my dad has a girlfriend,” Rosie stated.

“And her name is?” The officer said.

  “Sarah Coley," she replied.

“As far as I know, my mother hasn't dated anyone,” I said,” as I tried to remember something. “But lately, I notice an unfamiliar vehicle coming and leaving the house, but I've never seen the person personally.” I continued on.

The officer wrote a few notes down on the paper.

“Do you remember the vehicle's description?” he asked.

I thought to myself as I tried to remember, “ I believe it was blue, but I don't remember the model,” I said.

Rosie, who was sitting next to me, suddenly started to speak.

“We forgot to mention that all of their belongings are gone,” Rosie said with a concerned expression.

“Any debts that you know of?” he asked,

“Not that we know of sir.” Rosie and I said at the same time.

While the officer wrote down some more notes, another officer walked over and asked for their descriptions.

“We'll start investigating; in the meantime, you girls should return home and wait for us to contact you,” the other officer said.

Rosie and I got up from the chairs and walked towards the door. I then remembered that we forgot to ask the officer's name.

“Wait,” I mumbled and went back to the officer.

“Sorry, sir, I didn't get your name,” I asked.

“My name is Officer Charles Anderson,” he said as he shook my hand again.

A few minutes later, Rosie and I left the police station and started to walk back to the car.

When we returned to the car, Rosie suggested we go to the local park. It was another location we would go to whenever we wanted to clear our minds.

“Okay,” she said as we pulled into the park.

"You want to do a little jogging?" Rosie asked, as she tried to cheer me up.

  "Sure," I said.

"Wait, let's take your bow and arrows with us," she said as she returned and got it out of the trunk.

While getting my bow and arrows out of the trunk, I couldn't help but think about the time when I first learned archery. Rosie and I were about nine years old when her father first taught us archery. Ever since then, we fell in love with it.

Whenever we were at the park, Rosie and I would line up bottles and cans, anything we could find, and make them into targets.

“Okay, are you ready?” Rosie said as she lined up the last bottle.

I nodded and stood in my normal stance. I pulled back the string of my bow and watched as the arrow pierced the bottle in the middle.

“My turn,” Rosie said as she started to walk towards me. Rosie suddenly stopped walking and started to glance around. She stood a few yards away from me.

“Sage!” Rosie shouted as she began to run towards me.

I began feeling weird again, almost as if we were being watched.

“Sage!” I could hear Rosie shout as I turned my head towards the direction of the nearby woods, where the weird feeling was coming from.

A moment later, multiple men emerged from behind the trees.
