The snow has let up enough that we were able to burn William's body and light a big fire for all of us. I determined that one of the many reasons he died is because of how cold it is. When I told Yuri and Lawrence that, they seemed determined to fix that.
It is warm now, but the loss lays heavy on our hearts. There are eight of us now. Eight out of twenty. More of our brothers have died than there are alive. I can only hope that the group that we have can make it back to the village in time.
Lawrence seemed down all day, so I told him, "Cheer up."

"That sounded awful, you know that? You're always so down. You aren't one to talk about me being down," he responded.
"Well, you always are telling me to cheer up. I guess I don't know how to cheer you up," I muttered, warming my hands in the fine.
He sighed, "I don't know. I liked William. He was my brother. My countryman. You know?"
I nodded, "Of course I know. I remember when I lost Louis. I remember when I lost my whole unit back in France."
Lawrence shook his head, "I guess everyone around here is feeling that. I just..."
"What's the matter?" I repeated.
He let out a shaky breath, "Felix, I've been thinking today and last night. I don't think... I'm not sure... Felix, there is no going home anymore. We're dead men."
I nodded, "I know, Lawrence."
