Since we had gotten to this village, this is the first day that we have ever hunted for ourselves instead of the civilians. We spent almost all day doing it too. We might have gotten two hundred pounds worth of food for all of us. Most of it came from bigger animals, but some came from small ones that I couldn't possibly identify. Halfway through the day, we began gathering firewood. We got several pounds of that too and decided that we would share it with the villagers; we couldn't possibly carry it all.
I told Maria of this when I came back to her in the afternoon. She was glad to hear it.
She got close to me and whispered, "Alena and I fixed that broken tent of yours."
I hugged her and thanked her. Then, she did something shocking. She kissed me. Not to say that I didn't want it, I just wasn't expecting it. I love Maria dearly.

She dragged me to the city square and there was a man in his twenties watching us, "Who is this, Maria?"
"My boyfriend," she said gladly.
The guy was astonished and told her, "Why didn't I know about this?"
"This is my brother, Anton. Anton, this is Felix," she introduced us.
The guy's head tilted, "Last name?"
I didn't hesitate to say it, "Desmarais."
"Oh, so you're French. I haven't met a Frenchman. Nice to meet you, Felix. You're the doctor? I heard you were leaving tomorrow," he told me.
I nodded, "Yes. I want to spend time with Maria. I'm coming back after we finish this mission. I like this place too much."
He smiled, "Good," and let us be.
I spent the rest of the day with Maria. I only just now got back to the room where we are staying for the last night. I'm really going to miss this place and Maria. One doesn't realize how good they have things until they are gone. However, I am getting these things back, or I'll surely be dead. No, I'm too determined to let good things slip from my fingers once again.
