December 27th, 1918

One of my worst fears came true today. It began like regular, us going to help the people with whatever they needed. I was about to help them finish the house that we had begun building on the twenty-third.

"Felix," I soon heard, "They need you in the village center!"

It was Louis who had called out to me. I asked him where he had heard this and he told me that someone in the village had asked him to tell Yuri, Angelo, Lawrence, Daniel, and I to go there. I made my way to it and I saw them all standing around the person that I assumed to be the village's leader.

He seemed much too excited when he proclaimed, "The people of our village have a proposition for you! Because of all the work you boys have done for us, we want you to become integrated into the village. We want you to stay. We would love that. Of course, you don't need to. However, we do need new people here."

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

All of us were in a stunned silence.

After the long pause, Yuri told him, "We'll think about it."

We are all conflicted. We all have something to stay here for, but we need to finish the mission to end this war once and for all. We cannot let ourselves get ahead of our goal. However, it is quite tempting. After this, Maria mentioned it to me. She told me that she knew what I would choose in the end, and to not worry about it too much. I'm not exactly sure what she means. I don't even know myself. I want nothing more than to know the best answer for all of our boys and for our future, but we are no prophets. We cannot help it if we make the wrong choice. I suppose I will have to do what Yuri said and think on it.
