Anything that I land my eyes on looks organic, and I don't mean that in a vegan sort of way— I am in a giant tree so obviously everything is organic, it'd be weirder if it wasn't. — and instead in a "natural" sense, where the interior of this oversized tree looks it was grown in a garden.
And that's weird because the interior looks like a hotel lobby, complete with potted plants? What do you call a wooden plant holder? Or something? God this is all so confusing, and it's only making my headache worse.
Did this tree always have this quality? I'm pretty sure I distinctly remember the interior back in the game as something a lot less man-made than this, there weren't any chairs or tables present either, just a bunch of monsters living on the various floors.
Hotel lobby or not, I should probably stop focusing on the tree's interior and slowly start making my way up the damn thing so that I can grab the cloak and start working on my recovery.
Making my prosthetic got me to learn the runic words for "healing" and "recovery" so I can make a scroll with those effects, hastening my recovery and letting me leave this place an hour from now.
"An hour feels like a stretch though." I didn't sound confident and even my hands moved like they were underwater. I disarmed the "trap" in my leg and let it fall to the floor. "It's still smoking... Fuck."
Yeah, I don't think my prosthetic handled what happened earlier...
Eh, at least I can stand without a crutch now, the healing enchantments I placed in it helped me out at least. Walking is still impossible though, and I'm pretty sure that I broke it again while running earlier.
"Impact dampeners." I say with a regretful sigh, I should have added something that absorbed impact. "Even a small layer of gel surrounding my leg would have worked."
And the worse part is, my class is telling me that it's actually possible to make something that can trap vibrations!
"Wait no." I momentarily stop scanning my prosthetic for damage and focus on the rest of the trap's details. "Trapping vibrations means that they stay in the trap, it doesn't actually absorb anything. What happens if I release it? Can vibrations even be trapped?"
There was that time-crystal thing back on earth though right? What did it do to vibrations again? The rest of what it does is lost to me, I'm not much of a science geek so everything related to physics just washed over me like rain water would to a leaf.
"Okay, no, focus on the prosthetic, upgrade it later." I go back to scanning for damages, I mentally note every piece that got damaged during my chase earlier. "Oh thank god, I can actually fix it."
As it turns out, the damage looked worse than it was, everything that became dysfunctional can be easily repaired with the resources available to me— my dagger, transmutation, and wood, the last one is abundant. — and the best part is, it wouldn't even take me that long to do so!
Dismantling the prosthetic was the first thing I did, then I fell down when I tried to walk to a chair so the next thing on my list was making a crutch, which only took me a second. Now finally being able to walk again, I grab a nearby chair and start harvesting it for parts.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Remaking the trap from scratch would have taken me days, repairing it though? Give me a few more minutes and I should be able to—
I freeze, the entrance is now blocked, and the thing responsible for doing it is currently staring at me. A giant eye, one that's barely visible, is peeping at me.
How did the Warped even manage to do this? Is it just pressing its nose against the ground or something? I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility, I mean, the earth is tough but the body of a Warped is tougher.
Not the eye though, right? Definitely not the eye. An idea comes to me and I take out my dagger.
"You know what?" I stand up and brandish my dagger, as if sensing my excitement, the magic within it starts to thrum. I gathered mana inside my throat, collecting it until my neck feels like it's about to explode, I say a chant, the Pricorian words flowing out of my tongue easily. "[Wind Blast]."
My dagger started to shake violently and I could feel the vibrations running up my arm. Raising it was an exercise in itself, moving it sideways to cast [Shockwave] was even worse. I did it anyway, then I did it again.
Two powerful blasts of air shaking tremors shot out of my dagger and rapidly flew towards the Warped's eye, when the invisible force hit the soft flesh, blood exploded outward.
I screamed when the boiling liquid hit me. Right, of course its blood would be hot, it's literally the size of a building! I wiped my face and splashed the blood away with a single flick of my wrist.
After checking myself over, I confirm that the damage done to me wasn't that bad, my face is fine and I don't need to graft a new layer of skin on my arms, the only thing that received any lasting damage was my cloak, which I'm gonna replace soon anyway.
Taking it off and throwing it away was like getting a heavy burden off my shoulders, which isn't inaccurate. It is soaked in blood.
Everything has blood now actually, including my prosthetic. "Hm..." I pick up a piece, the runes I carved on it are now glowing brightly, is the blood feeding it magic? "Interesting."
Well, looks like I'm gonna be upgrading my prosthetic on top of repairing it.
Using transmutation to combine the wood and blood was difficult, the magic within them actively fought against my influence and I had to expend my own mana in order to get them to behave.
Repeat this for the dozen parts that the prosthetic has and you can see why I had a headache by the end of it.
Like some kind of masochist, I didn't stop with just that and kept going, I proceeded to transmute the replacement parts and then carved runes on top of that. My mana pool was now starting to flicker, and this is despite its large capacity and my above average recovery.
Upgrading my passive is one of the reasons why I'm pushing past my limits, I wouldn't have another opportunity like this one for a while at least. Draining my mana in its entirety and continuing to use magic should be enough to do it.
When I finished the prosthetic, I checked my system, nothing yet. Later, maybe? My gut tells me that [Mana Recovery] will get upgraded from this so it should do so.
I ran a few tests on my prosthetic to make sure it's functional and after confirming that it was, I re-assembled it. I emptied a spot on the floor of furniture and then armed my trap, and once it was fully spread, willingly stepped on its trigger and let it wrap around my leg.
Coolness washed over my leg as the prosthetic settles, then it becomes warmth as the healing function activates.
Walking around and even running didn't hurt me so I'm pretty sure that as long as I don't push my legs to their limits, the healing should keep my leg in shape. The prosthetic is so good now, I wanna tell the Warped that he did a good job peeping at me really.
Where is it actually? It's no longer by the entrance so it must have moved on right? I thought it would throw a tantrum and rampage around the tree but whatever is compelling it to protect this place must have prevented that. Guess I was worried for nothing.
With the Warped gone and my prosthetic fixed, the only thing left for me to do is go up the tree and search for the cloak.
Climbing the stairs along the walls was pretty intimidating, they didn't have railings so I can fall down if I make a single mistake and I'm pretty sure there are monsters here as well.
Dying from an ambush that pushed me off this thing sounds kinda embarrassing, I've killed countless monsters, got chased by a Warped, and what kills me is something so simple.
And can I just talk about how large this place is? It's like a hollowed out skyscraper.
