Lore: What is a star cycle / Rohana official lettering system

  Star Cycles (S.C)

In the Rohana federation, years are measured by a "star cycle." This system was established in 10 S.C. by one of the clerics while mapping out the star system.

He noticed a meteor shower and thus assumed the stars were falling, since he didn't know what meteors were. So he started counting how many times days and nights switched until the next such occurrence.

The problem was that these events were inconsistent, so he only recorded the time intervals between large showers. After five years of mapping, he finally presented his findings. In those findings, he noted that around 360 days, a large star blazes across the sky, followed by the smaller stars. So, the clergy voted, and thus, on 10 S.C., since the foundation of the Riana Federation, a year-measuring system was established to count the years as they passed. Before this system, time was measured by the first light, and thus, on the first light of day, 3600, scriptures were revised to use the new system.

It should be pointed out that there are no months in the federation. However, there are consistent weather events and four seasons, each lasting 90 days.

  Rohana lettering system

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

When it came to the writing system and language, Rohana's letters are based on Slavic and Nordic runes. Also, since Slavic languages have some additional letters, they were simplified, and some letters were dropped, so when words are written and read, there are no "strong" pronunciation letters. As for the letters themselves, one grapheme (one letter) corresponds to one phoneme (one sound). Throughout the novel, there will be several instances of words that are not rooted in English. For clarity, most of the phrases and sentences are in English, and sometimes slang is used. This is only to help readers understand the narrative.

Let's use an example of a word that is relevant to the current arc (chapters 12 - 18). Avanturai Upraven means adventurer's guild. Avantura is one of the Croatian words for an adventure, while Uprava implies management. Ending words with i signify a correlation between two words, where the first has an ownerous relationship with the other.

So let's say Heron's sword as another example. Heronoi maicen would follow a similar pattern: Heronoi implies ownership of Heron, and Maicen is made-up but based on the Croatian word ma?. But since letter ? would be hard to pronounce when playing around with how to go about it, and my brain just juggled some transformation phrases, so maicen was the result, as it sounded nice.
