Cleaning House Pt.2

As I stood before the massive wall of gnarled soft red roots. The crowd was speechless for a moment and the air revibrated with cheers and prayers that Noble was no doubt enjoying. Then I saw a small window appear in front of me.

  ....

  ....

Hmm, a badass sounding title unfortunate it was only temporary. However looking at the smiles of the adult Geckonese and the awe of the younglings, and I saw the beauty of magic went beyond the realm of warfare. Although I wasn't a fool and I took a prize that would far outstrip the temporary one that the Tutorial Title. A clump of seeds that I had sensed with [Floramancy] and extracted with [Geomancy]. From what I could tell and from Saer told me the root wall belonged to a unique species that grew searching for water and most importantly mana. Geckonese scholars from before the Scalefolk invasion had theorized that the root grew around the Geckonese city to absorb the trace amounts of pure Mana that the local people generated.

Even though the rootwall seeds were only tier one their Predecessor was easily a tier two which had to mean that natural treasures where capable of growing stronger too. If not and these seeds were weaker then their forefather they would at least proof to be useful.

After the commotion had quieted down Gonior the Provisional Leader of the Geckonese came forward a wide smile on his reptilian face before he lowered himself before in a bow.

"Oh, great [Divine King From the Deep Roots], I thank you for your generosity in not only saving us from the heathenous tyrants but also restoring our protection from the First Root." He said still bowing before me.

"Stand up Gonior, no need for you to bow to me" I said primarily for my own comfort as it was awkward as hell. Thankfully Gonior didn't put up any fuss and returned to standing straight and proud or at least the most that the naturally hunched Geckonese could manage.

"Will you be staying in the city long King?" He asked hopefully.

"Unfortunately not I have others that need me but before I go I intend on fixing key infrastructure and filling you in on recent events." I stated as Gonior and I moved towards the provisional government building.

After we arrived it took a while for Gonior to gather the other influential members of the community before I could launch into my report, and seeing the last enter the room I began my report.

It primarily went on to explain the fall of the Quetzal and the solution to the Scalefolk issue before launching into an explanation on how the Newtfolk and the Turtenani were doing.

"I am glad to hear that their royal family survived, ours were not so lucky due to their more distinct skin color that singled them out" Gonior said sorrow weighing him down.

"That brings me to my next topic of discussion, what are the plans for Geckonese moving forward, you cannot nor should not stay a Provisional Government for ever" I stated and the group seemed like they to where aware but their seemed to be tension. A silent argument ensued between the groups before Gonior spoke up.

"Yes, that has occured to us as well, the problem lays in what form this new government should take, many of the older generations still remember the fair rule of the old monarchy and seek to return to tradition, whereas the younger generations who were either children or never lived under a King or Queen are more open to other options" Gonior explained tiptoeing around it no doubt to not piss anyone off. However not everyone seemed to be pleased a younger Geckonese spoke up.

"You elders and your monarchs! Have you even thought of who would even end up as the King or Queen? Hmm, last time I checked their is no royals left, are so keen to have us descend into a civil war from a bunch of wackos who are certain their family should Rule!" The Geckonese got more and more impassioned as he continued until he waited and then he seemed caught off guard and when no one rose up to contest him. All of his elders seemed to be weary, they wanted things to return to normal rather then trying to reinvent the wheel.

"Calm, where I am hail from their are several different government types besides monarchy and their are even types that mix it, allowing for a monarch to act a unifying figure while having elected officials chosen by the people actually run the country" I explained figuring that a comprise would best, the elders would have something familiar to fall back on and the younger generations would have something new. I seemed to have grabbed everyone's interest, as I don't think the idea democracy's were all to common with the closest being unelected councils of powerful elders.

"Alright so essentially the way it would work-" I launched into an overview of what it could look like with varying levels of balance between the old and the new. However they where still caught up with who should be the next Monarch.

"Alright I am amendable to that, it allows are elders to have their traction and it we get to have a say in how this city is run, but now who should even be King, they have to be invidually powerful enough to ward off competitors and they have—, wait why are all of you looking at me like that?" The young Geckonese looked confused as his compatriots looked at him and then each other before smirking and the elders where out right chuckling. However Gonior took pity on the young man.

"Praven, not only are you the strongest warrior amgost us, your father was also the instrumental in saving many of our lives during the invasion, many of us Elders are not so easy to forget what he did for us, and your peers already look up to you" Gonior explained and Praven seemed taken back.

"Uh, how about you Gonior, everyone already listens to you why don't you become King?" Praven asked still confused mean while Gonior looked exasperated.

"Cause I don't know if you noticed, but to put it bluntly I'm old as shit, and I have no kids or grandkids to pass it down to" Gonior explained.

"Oh, Uhh I mean I guess but I'd feel more comfortable having a what was you called it again, an electsun?" Praven asked turning towards me.

"Its called an election, and I suppose I will help y'all run the first one" I said before explaining my vision on how it would work before leaving to go fix the infrastructure while the Provisional Government explained it to the others and set it up.

Turning my focus to the city I looked at the Pyramid of the Third Priestess who had like her compatriot who controlled the City of the Turtenani built her Pyramid upon the former ruling families palace.

My Mana flooded the pyramid and like the Turtenani I molded it roughly to the shape of what the former palace looked like. Although it also lacked a lot of the refinement and furnishings that the original had. After finishing that I went on to repair the scene of my fight with the local priestess, built a shrine to myself/Noble, and then also repaired some of the collapsed tunnels that the Geckonese used to harvest root wood. When I was finishing up on the last tunnel a small child ran up to me.

"Sire, the elders have up the thingy you told dem about" the boy said quickly and then ran off. Chuckling at the errant youth I made my way to the city square.

Their a crowd of Geckonese waited and the council seemed to be exasperated but hopeful.

"Sire! We are ready, we've explained it to them and I think they understand!" Gonior explained and I nodded.

"Alright I'm going to erect a room in the center with boxes for the different positions with each position having its own uniquely shaped stone, I will be in the room and each Geckonese will enter alone and only I will know who votes and will prevent any foul play" I explained to the crowd before said room arose in the center.

Their were a total of five positions being voted in and five to six candidates for each one. The positions were Monarch, Mayor, and three representives. Standing in the room I waited as each Geckonese walked in one at a time and placed their stones. It took about a day to complete which felt like a slog but intellectually I knew that it was rapid for elections.

It wasn't long after, that I announced who had been voted.

"For the Representative Positions we have Vjeck Ostcik, Cajaia Normaood, and Famala Roo, and for the Mayoral Position we have Gonior Wajshiper, and finally for The King of the Geckonese we have Praven Rootcrown" I announced and their a few grumblings but it was mostly cheers as the those who were elected where pushed on stage.
