The Golden Tower 1 : Golden Order Territory

  Masa Ed stood on the deck of Queen Dawn at its port side where it overlooked not just the clear sea that is reflecting the twilight sky, but also islands whose view is becoming apparently larger and clearer by the seconds because Queen Dawn is gradually loosing altitude—heading for the sea.

  Diagonally behind him, Sugar stood. At some distance away from his right side, the crowd of teenage-looking adult Snow earlier expelled from the hall so to speak gathered—some watching the panoramic view of the islands skyline that blends with layers of rose colored clouds in awe; some in groups or pairs, chatting with one another; and some standing alone, radiating their loner energy.

  While Masa Ed observe the islands analytically—including those that are bucolic and those that are urbanized which he concluded to support large majestic cities unlike anything he has ever seen before, not even in secret conspiracy books—from time to time, he would spy at the crowd of teenage-looking adult herded by Snow; specifically, the chubby and shapely plum-haired girl who is one of the loners that include Sera and the two boys whose black hair is in locs—them being the pathetic loser and the one he is proud of.

  "There are exactly seventy two island in our territory," Sugar said, sensing his curiosity. "But only twenty four are exclusive to us. We call them the golden islands; they are the one closest to the tower."

  Thinking about her words, Masa Ed refocused on the island closest to them—which like the others that are near it and are in view has far fewer airships and flying ferries populating its sky unlike those far from them but are now almost out of sight because Queen Dawn has gotten closer to the sea.

  On one of the island building of greco-roman architecture, Masa Ed eyes lingered. Even though its looks tiny from far away, he was able to judge from its look that it is a low-rise building just like most of the others near it; but what made him wonder was their height which is an average of about a hundred and fifty meters, creating a sight he has never seen before. As much as he knows, a group of buildings with each above a hundred and twenty meters is said to be found only in 'Dominion of God', the world's undisputed number one nation.

  "Master," Sugar called him and he glanced over his shoulder. She continued. "They are that tall because the minimum ceiling height is thirty three meters. Its the same for the other islands and the tower."

  "I see." He nodded.

  Coming to a sudden realization, he glanced over his shoulder again at Sugar.

  "Where exactly is this place?" He inquired.

  "Master, this is the Medi sea," Sugar replied. "We are close to where Medi island used to be... your island of residence before the incident."

  Masa Ed chuckled at her words. Her attempt to not avoid talking about his recent past that might shake him emotionally impressed him.

  Then again, thinking further... the fact that there is a territory this big at the heart of the Medi sea is hard for him to understand; after all, an hint of the Tower's existence doesn't even appear in any of the secret books he has read. If he was told in the past that a grand and majestic place like this exist here—his backyard so to speak —there is no way he would have ever believed it.

  Furthermore, how come he has no prior knowledge of the territory despite him being one of the most informed mortal bugs him a lot. He concluded, their spiritual magic together with their careful censorship of the information that circulates in the mortal sphere must be responsible. Well, he chose not to think much about it; he his certain he will soon understand their setup and methods anyways.

  Meanwhile;

  Following the blast of a horn that persists for a while, their ship finally completed its descent, sending circular ripples traveling on the clear sea.

  Where the teenage-looking adults are, Snow—the one in charge ordered them, and responding to her, they all like mature adult queued in front of the ship exits—its edge that is several meters above the sea surface that is.

  This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

  After further order, they all entered in batches into flying boats that emerged from the ship hull below and stopped right in front of them. All they had to do was stepped into the boat; so it didn't take long before they were led away with the flying boat that Snow entered taking the lead.

  "Master," Sugar called softly.

  Understanding her call, Masa Ed turned around, facing her.

  "Okay, lets go." He replied, and after she nodded, she took the lead and led him to the ship exit which is the edge where the teenage-looking adults entered the flying boats. And just like it was for the teenage-looking adults, a flying boat emerging from the ship hull below stopped right in front of them after which he followed Sugar into it before it took off automatically in the direction the ones that carried Snow and the teenage-looking adults went.

  ...

  On the flying boat;

  Just as Queen Dawn that has been blocking their right view was out of sight, the sight replacing it—the sight of a colossal round tower, so tall that it nearly pierced rose colored clouds and so majestic its golden sparkle lit up its surrounding, completely seized Masa Ed's attention. He gawked at it; it was unlike anything he has ever seen before. And another thing that was noteworthy about it besides its ridiculous span on a perfectly round island on the sea surface it sits, were seven conspicuous wrap-around balcony structures that looks like flat washers on screws it featured wrapping around it, each at similar intervals, their circumference matching the island it emerged from and also its flat top that extends beyond its top edge its sit, seeming like the two are one of them, the difference being they don't wrap around it but mark its top and bottom—a plain level support in their own right, twice the diameter of the tower.

  "That is the tower," Sugar said from beside him. "It is three thousand and six hundred meters tall with a diameter of one thousand and eight hundred meters. The sky pads—the ledges wrapped around it have a diameter twice that of the tower..."

  "So, they extend nine hundred meters from the central structure?"

  "Yes," Sugar replied. "They are primarily for docking ships and ferries. There are seven of it and they divide the seventy two floors of the tower into eight layers, nine floors each between them..."

  "I see, its really grand." Masa Ed concluded.

  ...

  Not long after;

  Their flying boat that is slowing down gradually descended and came to a halt at the shore of the tower island where others like it are docked.

  Then after Masa Ed took a brief look behind him, catching sight of a flying boat like theirs approaching them, he exit the ship with Sugar leading before he made his way to where the teenage-looking adults are gathered, his barefoot treading on a mowed grassy path illuminated by cresset smokeless flames lined at intervals along its flower hedge border on both sides.

  Moments later,

  Masa Ed took a seat beside the plum-haired teenage girl sitting head lowered on a bench, disregarding the curious stares coming from the teenage-looking adults standing as they wait for the next directive.

  As he was about to begin a conversation with the plum-haired girl right next to him on his right; Sera, the sickle girl intruded. With the blade of her sickle in her hand wrapped tightly, she expressionlessly walked toward the bench and sat on it, deliberately leaving a space for two people between her and Masa Ed who is still watching her like he is watching an exotic animal.

  In the next moment, Masa Ed chuckled. He finds her lack of tact amusing. She should at least be blunt. He concluded.

  Yet again... as he was about to start a conversation with the plum-haired girl who is at the moment rummaging her teddy-bear bag for whatever, a fat boy in golden jalabiya and a turban approached him with a calculated smile and sat right beside him, occupying the space Sera put between him and her.

  "Your lordship, I haven't seen you before?" He stated. He flashed Masa Ed a calculated smiled.

  Like he just heard the most insane thing in a while, Masa Ed turned to look at him with a weird questioning stare for a brief spell before he chuckled and faced forward.

  "Sir, are you from a spiritual family?" The fat boy persisted. When he did not receive a reply from Masa Ed, he simply smiled and readjusted his position. "I am Acolyte Abu dinn, Batch Twenty, Twentieth Generation."

  From the pocket of his jalabiya, he pulled out a folded piece of thick paper, revealing the portrait of an incredibly stunning young girl with a captivating smile, managing to gain Masa Ed attention with it

  "Sir, this is my daughter, she is the reason—"

  He stopped mid sentence. The groan of a large floor latch opening, revealing a staircase leading underground made him noticed his colleague queuing in front of the latch as was probably instructed by Snow who is in charge.

  "Your excellency, I think its about to start, will you be coming?" He turned to Masa Ed before he stood up and tucked the picture back to his pocket.

  As Masa Ed was about to reply him, he felt an intent directed at him, so turning to the plum-haired girl who is the source of the intent, he saw in her hand a fruit similar to the one she gave him earlier which she is holding out to him.

  He took the the fruit from her, but when he looked up to reply the fat boy, he saw that Abu Dinn is about to reach his colleague and join the orderly queue some distance in front of him; so he chose to forget and instead focus his attention on the fruit.
