Chapter 30: The First Wave Event
The city was under siege.
Adrian could feel the pulse of the battlefield in every inch of his body. The first wave had hit with a force unlike anything they had ever faced. The Typhon-Aswang Drones were relentless, crashing into the planetary shield with the fury of a storm. The sky had turned blood red, the atmosphere thick with the scent of decay and ozone. The air itself felt charged, as though the very world was being torn apart.
The shield was holding, but just barely. Sarah’s device was flashing with warnings, the energy readings for the planetary shield spiking and fluctuating. It was only a matter of time before they reached their limit.
The sounds of battle were deafening. The screeching of the drones filled the air, their chitinous bodies crashing against the shield with a terrifying force. Adrian’s heart pounded in his chest as he surveyed the battlefield, his mind racing through the various contingencies.
“Adrian, we need to make sure the shield doesn’t collapse!” Sarah’s voice crackled through the comms, her tone urgent. She was monitoring the shield’s integrity, but the strain was becoming overwhelming.
“I know,” Adrian replied, his voice steady despite the chaos around him. “We’ve been through worse, but we can’t let our guard down. The longer we hold, the more time we have to prepare.”
He turned to Mike and Eva, who were already moving into position. Mike, his massive frame ready for action, cracked his knuckles as he surveyed the oncoming swarm. Eva, her radiant light pulsing softly at her fingertips, was focused and calm, ready to unleash her power at a moment’s notice.
“Mike, take the left side,” Adrian ordered. “Keep the drones from getting too close to the shield. Eva, you and I will focus on the center.”
Mike gave a sharp nod, his voice booming with enthusiasm. “On it, boss. Let’s make sure they regret coming here.”
Eva’s gaze softened as she looked at Adrian, but there was no fear in her eyes—only determination. “Let’s do this.”
Adrian raised his hand, manipulating the gravity around him as he summoned a gravitational field that compressed the incoming drones, forcing them down into the ground. The first wave of Typhon-Aswangs were easy to deal with—simple targets to soften the battlefield. But Adrian knew this was just the beginning.
From the chaos of the battle, a massive shape began to emerge—one far larger and far more dangerous than anything they had faced before. A loud, screeching sound echoed from above as a monstrous figure descended from the red-tinted sky.

It was the Typhon-Aswang Queen.
Her massive wings beat the air, sending gusts of wind that knocked several drones out of the sky. Her body was twisted with bone and chitin, covered in black, jagged scales, and her eyes—glowing with malice—focused directly on Adrian and his team. She was the true leader of this first wave, and Adrian could feel her presence like a crushing weight in his chest. The others might be drones, but this was different. This was something with intelligence, with purpose.
The Queen screeched again, her voice sending a shockwave of sound through the air. It was a signal. The drones, now more organized, began to swarm toward the shield, guided by the Queen’s command. They were no longer just random attacks. This was a coordinated assault.
Adrian’s gaze hardened as he turned to Eva. “We need to take her down. Now.”
“I’ll do what I can,” Eva said, already moving forward. She extended her hands, focusing her radiant energy into a concentrated beam of light that shot toward the Queen. But the creature was fast. She dodged with terrifying speed, her wings snapping forward to shield her from the blast.
“Damn it,” Adrian muttered under his breath. He could feel the energy from the Queen’s body, vibrating with force. She wasn’t just another monster. She was a power source herself, one that could control the drones and manipulate the battlefield.
The Queen surged forward, her enormous form pushing through the air with a roar. Her claws were like jagged knives, reaching down toward them. Adrian reacted instantly, manipulating gravity once again to shift the Queen’s momentum, slowing her down just enough to give them a fighting chance.
“Mike, take her head-on!” Adrian ordered. “Eva, focus on her wings! I’ll handle the gravity.”
Mike grinned, his confidence unwavering. “Finally, a challenge!” He charged forward, his weapon raised high. With one mighty swing, he struck at the Queen’s wing. The blade hit hard, but the Queen’s scales were too tough. It bounced off, sending sparks flying.
Eva wasn’t far behind. Her hands glowed bright, and she sent a wave of radiant energy toward the Queen’s wings, hitting her with a powerful surge of light. The Queen screeched in pain, but the impact only seemed to make her angrier.
Adrian’s eyes narrowed as he focused on the gravity field around them. He pulled the Queen’s body toward the ground, forcing her to fight against the gravitational pull, but it wasn’t enough. She was too powerful. Her wings flapped furiously, sending gusts of wind that knocked Adrian off balance.
“We need to hit her at her core!” Adrian shouted. “She’s using her wings to control the drones. If we take them out, we can stop her from commanding the wave.”
Mike, realizing the shift in strategy, nodded. “Got it. Eva, ready for round two?”
Eva stepped forward, her eyes locked on the Queen. “Let’s finish this.”
With a final, coordinated effort, Eva released another burst of radiant energy, this time focused entirely on the Queen’s wings. The light pierced through the dark scales, burning the wings and causing them to twitch and convulse. The Queen howled in pain, her flight disrupted for a brief moment.
Adrian, sensing the opening, increased the gravity around the Queen’s body. With a forceful push, he slammed her to the ground, her body hitting the earth with a massive crash. The drones, seeing their queen fall, hesitated for a split second. It was just enough time for Mike and Eva to take advantage of the chaos.
Mike charged forward, swinging his weapon down with all his might. His strike hit the Queen’s neck, cracking through her chitinous armor. She screeched in agony, her form twitching violently.
But Adrian knew it wasn’t over yet. The drones were still swarming, and the Queen was far from finished.
“Finish her off!” Adrian commanded.
Eva took a deep breath, her radiant energy flaring brightly. With one final surge of power, she unleashed a blinding beam of light directly at the Queen’s exposed underbelly. The light consumed the Queen, burning through her twisted form, until she let out a final, deafening scream before crumbling to the ground, her body disintegrating into a mass of corrupted energy.
The remaining drones hesitated, unsure of what to do. The Queen was gone, and their command structure had collapsed. Adrian stepped forward, his hands still glowing from the gravity manipulation, his mind racing.
“It’s over,” he said, his voice hard but calm. “The first wave is broken.”
The drones scattered into the sky, retreating into the clouds, leaving the city still standing. The planetary shield flickered, but it held. Adrian could feel the weight of the battle lifting, but he knew this wasn’t the end. It was just the beginning. There would be more waves, more creatures, and more tests to come.
But for now, they had won.
Adrian turned to his team, his eyes scanning their faces. “We held. But the war is far from over.”
