Chapter 12: Information is Power
The air was thick with tension as Adrian, Mike, and Sarah huddled together in the dimly lit room, surrounded by salvaged electronics and wires. The faint hum of old servers filled the space, creating an almost rhythmic pulse that seemed to echo through the walls. Sarah was busy typing away at a cracked console, her fingers flying over the keys with precision. Adrian stood beside her, his eyes scanning the screens, watching the data scroll by in rapid succession.
Mike leaned against a pile of debris, arms crossed, tapping his foot impatiently. “So, how long is this going to take? We’ve got bigger problems than data mining.”
Adrian shot him a quick look. “Patience. Sarah’s been digging through the System’s layers for a while now. She might have something we can use.”
Sarah didn’t look up from her console as she spoke, her voice low but steady. “I’m almost there. Just need to extract a few more files.”
Mike sighed, clearly frustrated. “If this is anything like last time, I’m going to lose my mind. We’re about to face a faction that’s hoarding Boss Cores, and all we’re doing is looking at old code.”
Adrian held up a hand to silence him. “Let her work. She’s onto something. If she can get the data we need, it’ll give us a huge advantage.”
The room fell silent again, save for the occasional sound of Sarah’s fingers hitting the keys. Adrian’s mind raced. The Iron Tusk had been hoarding Boss Cores, causing energy instability in the local area. If they didn’t figure out what the Iron Tusk was doing with those Cores, things could spiral out of control. The System’s recalibration was already causing waves of chaos, and every decision they made from here on out would be crucial.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Sarah leaned back in her chair and let out a breath. “Got it,” she said, tapping a few keys to pull up a new window on the screen. “Here’s what I’ve found.”
Adrian moved forward, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the data that appeared on the screen. It was a blueprint of sorts—an intricate web of energy flows, Node connections, and detailed schematics. But there was something else. The data included a list of Boss Cores that the Iron Tusk had been hoarding, and Adrian’s heart sank as he took in the information.

“Their network is bigger than I thought,” Sarah said, her voice grim. “They’ve been gathering Cores for weeks, maybe even months. And they’re using them to siphon off energy from the System’s main Node networks. That’s why Mandaue’s energy levels are so unstable—they’re causing a drain on the system.”
Mike frowned, pushing off from the wall to get a closer look at the screen. “So, they’re messing with the System’s core energy to power their own operations?”
Sarah nodded. “Exactly. And they’ve been using the Boss Cores to create localized energy surges—basically building their own power base while destabilizing the surrounding Nodes. It’s a dangerous game.”
Adrian clenched his jaw, feeling the weight of the information settle over him. The Iron Tusk wasn’t just hoarding power—they were actively disrupting the energy balance of the entire city. If they didn’t act fast, they could cause a full system collapse.
“We need to stop them,” Adrian said, his voice low but firm.
Sarah turned back to the console, typing furiously. “I’ve also traced their main base of operations. It’s in the Mandaue North area—close to the energy grid. They’ve set up shop near one of the largest Nodes. If we take that out, we’ll cripple their entire operation.”
Adrian’s mind raced as he processed the new information. The Iron Tusk was growing stronger by the day, hoarding energy, and creating instability in the Node network. It was only a matter of time before they made their move, and when they did, the consequences would be catastrophic.
“We can’t let them keep hoarding Cores. If we don’t stop them, they’ll have the power to control everything,” Adrian muttered, his eyes flicking to Mike. “We’re going after them. We take the base, we disrupt their operations, and we stop the flow of energy.”
Mike’s expression was one of determination. “I’m in. Let’s put an end to this.”
Adrian turned to Sarah. “Can you give us intel on their defenses? We need to know what we’re walking into.”
Sarah nodded, already pulling up more data. “I’ve got a few ideas. They’ve fortified their base, but they’re still operating under the radar. I can help you hack into their systems and disable some of their security measures.”
Adrian thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. We’ll need to move fast and take them by surprise. If we can knock them off balance, we’ll have a chance to shut down their operation before they can react.”
The tension in the room was palpable. Adrian knew that this mission would be one of the most dangerous they’d faced so far. But it was their best shot at taking down the Iron Tusk and stopping the flow of stolen energy before it was too late.
As Adrian gathered his gear, he looked at Mike and Sarah, his mind already on the next phase of their plan. “We move out in an hour. Get ready.”
Sarah stood up from her console, gathering her own equipment. “I’ll be ready. You won’t have to worry about their systems. I’ll make sure we’re in and out without them knowing what hit them.”
Mike cracked his knuckles, a grin spreading across his face. “Finally. A fight that’s worth the trouble.”
Adrian allowed himself a brief moment of relief. The pieces were falling into place. With Sarah’s help, they had the intel they needed. They had a plan. And now, they would execute it.
The Iron Tusk had made their move, but Adrian was ready to strike back. The fight for control of the city, and the System, was about to get even more intense. And this time, Adrian wasn’t just fighting for survival. He was fighting for the future.
“Let’s go,” Adrian said, his voice steady and resolute. “We’ve got work to do.”
