Chapter 12: Winter’s End, Spring’s Beginning

Riyy walked straight into Nazar’s office without hesitation.

Inside, the air smelled of books and old pages. Nazar was fully focused, carefully arranging books on the shelves — so absorbed that he didn’t even notice the door opening.

  Knock… knock… — Riyy knocked lightly.

Nazar turned around and immediately spotted him. A smile appeared on his face as he said calmly:— “You came back after a long time.”

Light slipped in through the half-open door and fell over Riyy. He stood there with a faint smirk, his voice blunt and steady:— “Yeah… it really has been a while. I left for two weeks, but ended up staying four.”

Nazar pulled a book from the shelf and placed it on the table. His voice carried a warm, restrained breath:— “You’re my best friend. It felt really lonely without you.”

Riyy lowered his gaze and slowly stepped into the room. His posture was calm, but there was a quiet weight in his voice:— “Looks like a lot happened here while I was out of the country. And… Thanks for handling my responsibilities.”

Nazar kept looking at him. Friendship was clear in his eyes — but somewhere deep inside, an unknown shadow seemed to linger.

The room grew heavy. One had returned after four weeks. The other had carried everything alone in his absence.

The classroom was silent. The teacher was lecturing, but no one was actually listening. Every now and then, students kept glancing toward the back.

Today, Saamyn was sitting beside the window. A strange, mysterious smile rested at the corner of his lips.

In a very low voice — almost to himself — he said:— “In a little while… someone’s going to come see us.”

Ymraan glanced at him but didn’t ask anything. He knew — when Saamyn said things like this, it always meant something.

Meanwhile, back in his office, Nazar was busy clearing a few open books scattered across his desk. Sitting quietly in front of him was Riyy aev Kazahaya.

Riyy spoke in a soft but firm voice:— “Tell me what happened in 2nd year while I was gone.”

Nazar paused for a moment. Then, in a calm tone, he replied:— “A lot happened. For example—Yuqeen aev Hanabirah from 2nd year. The girl who takes first place in every exam and pushes you down to second.

She’s now dating her classmate, Rayn Taqeesh. Because of that, half the boys in school are walking around with shattered hearts.”

Riyy gave a faint, cold smile and narrowed his eyes:— “Talking about Hanabirah already, huh… fine. But you didn’t have to disrespect me in the process.”

A brief pause. Then Riyy’s cold voice growled again:— “You even mentioned the name Taqeesh. The one who comes fifth in exams every time? Hm… I’ll have to meet them in person.”

Suddenly, his posture shifted as he leaned toward Nazar. His voice carried an eerie calm, but his eyes were sharp — cold like thorns:— “When I entered the school… I kept hearing just two new names everywhere. Can you tell me who they are?”

Nazar stayed silent for a while. His fingers tapped rhythmically against the table. Finally, he lifted his head and said in a straight, honest tone:— “I don’t know much about them. But if I start explaining in detail, the whole day will be gone.”

After a brief pause, he added:— “Don’t think I’m exaggerating. If Saamyn Siddarik had joined this school during my time, I wouldn’t be the president today. He would be.”

For a moment, Riyy’s eyes froze. His expression turned serious — but then a faint smile curved his lips as he spoke with confidence:— “Saamyn Siddarik… hm. Sounds Royal — but not actually Royal? From the way you’re talking, it seems I’ll have to meet them myself.”

Nazar slowly placed both hands on the table. His voice was calm, but the tension beneath it was obvious:— “You want to meet Yuqeen and Rayn Taqeesh now, right?”

After a second, he continued:— “They’re in the same class. And you’ll recognize the two boys easily — one is Saamyn Siddarik, the other is Ymraan Sarqaan.”

The room fell silent. The air itself seemed to freeze under the weight.

Riyy said nothing. He simply gave a polite smile. As he turned toward the door, Nazar spoke from behind in a cold voice:— “No need to talk now. I’ll properly introduce you during lunch break.”

Riyy smiled slightly. A strange glint flashed in his eyes:— “Alright… for now, I’ll just observe.”

Some time later… The Sir was teaching in class when suddenly — knock… knock... A knock at the door.

At the same moment, Saamyn let a faint, mysterious smile touch his lips and whispered:— “You may come in, Riyy aev Kazahaya…”

The Sir frowned slightly and looked toward the door:— “Yes.”

As the door opened, Riyy stepped inside. His presence alone instantly shifted the atmosphere of the classroom.

All the students — even the Sir — stood up to show respect. But Saamyn and Ymraan remained seated. Their posture said everything — they don’t bow their heads to anyone.

Riyy didn’t react at all. He walked straight toward Yuqeen and Rayn. Stopping silently, he spoke in a soft voice:— “Hi… I heard you two are dating.”

Rayn replied calmly, polite but cool:— “Yes, you heard correctly.”

Then, slightly narrowing his eyes, he fired back:— “President… is that the only reason you came?”

For a brief moment after Rayn’s question, the entire classroom went silent. Then Riyy pulled a small smile to his lips and replied in a calm tone:— “Not exactly… though that is part of it. The real reason is a little different.”

As soon as he finished speaking, his gaze shifted straight toward Saamyn and Ymraan. There was a strange glint in his eyes, a faint smirk on his lips.

After a short pause, he turned back to Rayn. His voice was still composed:— “I didn’t come here for anything serious. I just heard that the best girl in the school is dating you, and I couldn’t resist seeing it for myself.”

The classroom was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Riyy slowly leaned closer to Rayn’s ear and whispered:— “You’ve broken a lot of boys’ hearts… be careful of the rest.”

Even after hearing that, Rayn’s expression didn’t change. His eyes remained cold.

Taking a step back, Riyy then turned toward the door. Before leaving, he paused, looked at the Sir, and said plainly:— “Sir, you may continue the class now.”

As soon as Riyy walked out, Rayn and Haarun slowly turned their heads. Their gaze locked onto Saamyn — cold, sharp, unreadable. A while later, class ended. Lunch break began.

On one side of the cafeteria, Saamyn, Ymraan, and the others were seated, ordering food. Light noise filled the space — trays clinking, quiet chatter, broken laughter.

Just then, two people pushed the door open and walked in — Riyy and Nazar.

The moment their footsteps hit the cafeteria floor, the atmosphere shifted. One by one, every pair of eyes turned toward them.

But strangely — this time, no one stood up. Ymraan tilted his head slightly and whispered to Haarun:— “Hey hero… why didn’t anyone get up this time?”

Haarun narrowed his eyes and replied in a serious tone:— “Because this rule was made by President Nazar himself. During meals… no one stands up for anyone.”

Ymraan tilted his head with a half-mocking smile. In his mind, he thought:— “He’s poking himself with the rules he created. Funny… and what happens if you push it further, I know that very well.”

Meanwhile, Nazar and Riyy walked straight ahead without looking at anyone. They stopped right in front of Saamyn’s table.

The surrounding chatter suddenly died down. Now only the clinking of plates and restrained breathing could be heard.

Saamyn calmly lifted his gaze. Riyy and Nazar stood before him — silent, yet their presence alone seemed to weigh down the entire space. Nazar spoke in a calm, polite tone:— “Hey, Saamyn. I told you about my best friend.”

Then, gesturing toward Riyy, he added:— “This is him — Riyy aev Kazahaya. No need for introductions; he’s the president of your year.”

Riyy stepped forward and extended his hand, his voice calm but commanding:— “Nice to meet you, Saamyn Siddarik.”

Saamyn slowly stood up and shook his hand firmly. At that moment, Ymraan leaned back from his chair and started moving away, as if the whole scene annoyed him.

Suddenly, the entire cafeteria froze. Nazar, Riyy, and Saamyn — all eyes locked onto Ymraan.

A cold glint flashed in Riyy’s eyes. His voice was calm, but edged with steel:— “Why are you walking away?”

Ymraan turned his head and replied with a pure attitude:— “Mr. President… I can't digest this extra formality of yours.”

In an instant, the cafeteria went dead silent. Some students stared wide-eyed; others forgot to breathe. Riyy asked in a straight, steady voice:— “What exactly are you trying to say?”

Ymraan curled his lips into a scornful smile and stepped forward at another pace:— “I’m saying… this formality of yours feels no different to me than overacted family drama.”

Hearing Ymraan’s words, Riyy stepped forward. His voice carried razor-sharp calmness:— “No one talks to us like that. Everyone shows respect… something you clearly lack.”

Ymraan replied with a scornful smile:— “I don’t even respect the President of the country. So who are you — some broken engine?”

After hearing that much from Ymraan, Nazar slightly turned his head toward Saamyn. Saamyn lowered his eyes and gestured coldly:— “Let them do whatever they want. We’ll stay silent.”

Nazar didn’t say anything, but he understood everything perfectly.

A low murmur spread across the entire cafeteria. Whispers, stunned faces — because no one had ever dared to speak to the President like this. Suddenly, Riyy smiled faintly and said in a confident tone:— “Your attitude… I like it.”

Ymraan stepped closer, a threatening glint flashing in his eyes:— “But I didn’t like your politeness. Remember this… you’ll regret it later, and there’ll be no going back.”

This time Riyy answered with a pure attitude:— “We’ll see who’s fate turns out how. And don’t worry — no one here will say anything to you.”

Ymraan curled his lips into the most dangerous smile and whispered:— “Fine… the responsibility of completely destroying you is mine. And one more thing — none of your ancestors have the capacity to say anything to me.”

As those words ended, a chilling silence spread through the cafeteria. Riyy was about to reply — Just then, a female voice echoed from the doorway:— “Hey, Riyy! You’re really late. Now you’ll have to be punished.”

Everyone turned to look. Standing near the door was a mysterious girl. Ymraan frowned and whispered to Haarun:— “Hey, reporter… who’s this girl now?”

Haarun stepped closer and replied in a low voice:— “Her name is Satsuqy aev Aokam. The 2nd year President’s girlfriend. And most importantly — she’s our Principal’s daughter.”

Satsuqy slowly walked up to Riyy and said softly:— “Yes, you heard right. You will be punished. And that punishment is… you’ll have to stay with me the entire day today.”

Riyy smiled calmly, a playful edge in his expression:— “Okay, ma’am.”

Satsuqy smiled lightly and nodded, then turned to Nazar and said respectfully:— “How are you, President Kurgaan?”

Nazar replied in his usual polite tone:— “I’m doing well.”

Then Satsuqy’s eyes landed on Saamyn. The moment she noticed Ymraan’s presence, she froze for a second — a clear surprise flashing in her eyes.

After a brief pause, she spoke with slight hesitation:— “S-so it’s you two… the ones the entire school has been talking about for the past few days?”

Ymraan stepped forward with his signature attitude and smiled:— “Didn’t want to say it, but since you asked — yeah. You recognized us perfectly. We’re the two students who shook the whole school.”

Satsuqy didn’t say anything else. Low whispers started again all around — curiosity and excitement buzzing through the cafeteria.

Just then, Saamyn noticed something — from a distant table, a girl was silently watching them with a faint smile.

In an instant, Saamyn understood — that smile wasn’t meant for him or Ymraan. It was meant only for Nazar.

A few hours later — school ended, and evening slowly crept in. The reddish glow of the sky melted into a soft darkness.

Classes are over. Some students were getting into their cars, others walking past the gates. The area filled with noise — conversations, laughter, and the sound of traffic rushing by.

Saamyn and Ymraan were running from rooftop to rooftop — as if the entire city were their playground.

Standing at the edge of a tall rooftop, Ymraan chuckled and whispered:— “Crossing this many rooftops is risky… no idea which idiot came up with this plan.”

Saamyn curled his lips into a mysterious smile and replied calmly:— “Risk doesn’t exist for us.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he threw his body into the air. Cutting through the wind, he leapt toward the next rooftop — perfect landing. Ymraan smirked lightly and joined him with a flawless Kong Vault.

Suddenly, both of them looked down at the street below — traffic lights glowing, cars racing like tiny particles. Their shadows blended into the sky, as if they were silently competing with the city itself.

While running, Saamyn suddenly stopped on the roof of a house. His gaze locked downward — Standing there below… was Nazar.

Nazar stepped out of his car and stood there. Beside him was the same girl — the one who had smiled softly at him from inside the cafeteria earlier that afternoon.

Today again, the same gentleness rested in her eyes, the same warm smile on her lips.

Standing nearby, Ymraan chuckled under his breath, whispering with his usual attitude:— “Looks like even the school’s President finally had his heart stolen.”

Saamyn watched the scene silently. Nazar gently placed his hand on the girl’s head — like a quiet promise. A kind, tender smile appeared on his face.

The girl slowly stepped inside her apartment. At that exact moment, Saamyn appeared behind Nazar and placed a hand on his shoulder.

Nazar flinched and immediately turned around. Surprise filled his eyes — he hadn’t sensed for even a second when Saamyn and Ymraan came up behind him.

Saamyn asked in a light, almost sweet tone:— “Who was that girl? …Is she your girlfriend?”

Nazar stayed silent for a moment. Then he closed his eyes, a calm smile forming on his lips, and said:— “No… she’s not my girlfriend. But I’ve known her for a long time.”

Saamyn frowned slightly and asked bluntly:— “Then why don’t you talk to her at school at all?”

Nazar replied in a soft, steady voice:— “I know you already know the answer. Still, I’ll say it. Her name is Rinah Amatsuq. She’s in 2nd year, and she’s a mid-noble.”

Letting out a long breath, Nazar continued slowly:— “Whenever I’m around her, she reminds me of my mother. And without realizing it… the way I act changes.”

After a brief pause, he added:— “But I don’t want that side of me to weaken my position as President. Because I’m not just the school’s president… I’m this school’s leader.”

Saamyn kept his eyes closed for a few seconds. Then he opened them and asked in a cold, direct tone:— “So… Do you like her?”

Nazar hesitated, then spoke quietly:— “I’m not sure. But sometimes… I feel like asking her out on a date someday.”

Ymraan, sitting beside them, laughed and said:— “Guess you don’t really like a peaceful life. But hey… all the best.”

Nazar silently glanced at Ymraan once, then shifted his gaze to Saamyn. Hearing that, Saamyn smiled lightly. After the smile faded, he asked:— “So tell me… how did you two meet?”

Nazar bit his lip and smiled faintly before replying:— “Not today… I’ll tell you some other day. It’s already very late.”

With that, he got into his car and signaled the driver to head home. After Nazar left, Saamyn and Ymraan looked at each other once more — saying nothing, yet understanding everything.

Some time later, night settled in. Mist floated in the sky, but not as thick as before. The air itself seemed to whisper — winter was ending, spring wasn’t far away.

Rayn and Yuqeen were walking side by side along a quiet road. Ahead lay a bridge, wrapped in silence. No car horns. No human noise. Only the soft breeze and the gentle murmur of the river.

Reaching the middle of the bridge, Yuqeen suddenly stopped. Rayn stopped too and looked at her. He could tell — she was lost in deep thought.

After a moment of silence, Yuqeen spoke in a calm, sweet voice:— “Winter is ending… which means spring will arrive very soon…”

Rayn slowly stepped closer to her and gently took her hand. With a warm smile on his lips, he said:— “You’re right… spring will come. Then summer… and after that, the monsoon.”

Yuqeen asked softly, a hint of surprise in her voice:— “But why did you go so far ahead? Spring hasn’t even arrived yet.”

Rayn smiled lightly, a fragment of memory flickering in his eyes, and replied:— “Because… it was on the very first rainy day of the monsoon that we met.”

At Rayn’s words, Yuqeen’s cheeks turned red. She lowered her eyes shyly, yet a strangely sweet smile played on her lips.

Seeing that smile, Rayn closed his eyes for a moment. A memory surfaced — the rain-soaked morning of the first monsoon shower… and their very first meeting.
