Weeks later after the incident with Nelson, things were moving smoothly with Pyro and his family, he even started training Mary properly, it seemed like she found strength to keep focus.
One day before the end of the school day Mr. Masinde came to class with papers in his hands.
Mr. Masinde
Quiet down, I have an announcement to make, on Friday we'll be having a school trip, to Holler Park, I have permission slips here with me make sure you're parent or guardian signs them this is very important, that is all.
He gives the slips to Mary and passes them around
Pyro (to Mary)
You don't look too happy about this.
Mary
Obviously not. Holler park is a place where kids go to on their very first field trip. It's nothing special, it just has animals and birds, the only exciting things are the alligator public feedings and the caged snakes.
Pyro
I see, but what may be boring to you, may be exciting to some. I mean look around everyone else is excited.
Mary
True but, you don't look too excited either.
Pyro
Simply because I'm not, I've seen way more exciting creatures than this.
Mary (fidgeting)
Well, I mean if we're both not going do you wanna come to my house sometime? I mean-- to train, of course.
Pyro
I would, but Sara wouldn't want me missing this trip, says I need to "go out more and experience what life has to offer"
Mary (surprised)
You call your mom by her first name?
Pyro
I'm not comfortable with calling my adoptive mother "mom" at the moment.
Mary
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry.
Pyro (stoic)
It doesn't matter.
The next minute a boy of around 12 years old comes to disrupt the conversation between them. You could easily tell he was one of those rich kids, Rolex watch on the left wrist, sleek black hair which was neatly combed, the dude's hairstylist has to be rich and that gel on his has to be priceless.
He had slim body, not too tall or short for his height, Black eyes, chiseled jawline that the ladies die for, small nose, roundly shaped ears and thin lips. The final thing about this kid is that if you look close enough you could notice the difference between his uniform and the rest of the others. You see other students buy their uniforms from shops as you can see the at the back of the collar there's a clothing company but this kid had nothing like that, if you look at his uniform from head to toe, the stitching and sleekness of the uniform seems slightly different than the usual ones which meant one thing: His uniform is custom made.
Mary (sarcastically)
Aw, his lordship grants us his presence, how may we serve you today?
Timothy
Will you stop that? I'm a normal kid just like you are.
She blocks her nose with her hand.
Mary (uninterested and sarcastic)
Unfortunately, your majesty, the cologne you're wearing is too powerful for us mere mortals to inhale.
Pyro couldn't help but crack a little smile.
Pyro
It is a little strong though.
Mary
Right?!
Timothy
Enough about me. Let's talk about the two of you: Romeo and Juliet. You two are a hot topic of the class
Mary instantly blushes but looks away from both of them and pretending to not care.
Pyro
I assure you our relationship is strictly platonic. I am not pursuing Mary romantically.
Mary
Do you have to say it like that though?
Timothy
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Boooooo! Boring! (realizing) hold on a sec why does Pyro talk like he's in one of those movies?
Mary
What movies?
Timothy
You know? Like the hobbit or game of thrones those movies.
Mary
Oh yeah, it's just how he talks, you get used to it in a while.
Pyro
Do I talk weird?
Mary (smiling)
No, you're fine.
Timothy (teasing)
How about you stop flirting when I'm around?
Mary (irritated)
Is there a reason you're here?
Timothy
Can I borrow your textbook?
Mary
Are you serious right now?! With your pocket money you can buy the entire school textbooks and still have change left over
Pyro gets in his desk and hands over his textbook
Pyro
Here, just make sure to return it.
Timothy (surprised)
Really? Thanks.
Mary (confused)
Why'd you do that?
Pyro
It wasn't about the textbook. I think he just wanted to talk.
Mary
To whom?
Pyro
I think to you, this is purely my assumption, so take it lightly, but I think Timothy is trying to pursue you romantically.
Mary (surprised and confused)
What?! Hell no! That guy has tons of friends every year on his birthday he invites the entire class to his mansion basically to show off his luxury life.
Pyro
You know what, maybe you're right, maybe I'm just over thinking things and hopefully you're right.
Mary
Damn straight.
The following week went by in a flash soon it was Friday morning the students in the fifth grade were showing their signed permission slips and entering the school bus. As Pyro entered he sat near at the end on the left side which had three seats unlike the right side which had two, he sat next to the window as he was admiring the outside he heard a familiar voice calling to him.
Mary
Thanks for saving me a seat, there's quite a ruckus out there. (Sits next to him).
Pyro
I thought you weren't coming.
Mary
Yeah, it uhh, took some convincing, but I'm here now. Hopefully it'll be exciting when you're around.
Pyro
I doubt that but okay.
Another familiar voice comes in disrupting the conversation it was none other than Timothy.
Timothy
Oh good, I found you it's basically a jungle out here.
Mary (sarcastically)
I'm sorry but those of Royal descent are supposed to be in the front of the bus not at the back where we mere mortals are.
Timothy places himself at the third seat and Mary gets visibly annoyed with him.
Mary (irritated)
Hey, what are you doing?
Timothy (sarcastically)
I'm sitting on my head, what about you?
Mary
Get off!
Timothy ignores her and extends his hand to Pyro and he shakes his hand. Which makes him happy for some reason.
Timothy
I believe I haven't properly introduced myself, I'm timothy, you can call me Tim or Timoh
Pyro
Tim it is.
Mary
(To Pyro) hey! don't get buddy buddy with him.
Tim (Teasing)
Come on Mary, you can't keep him all to yourself forever, share him a little bit.
They continue their bickering most of time until they reached their way to the park.
Montage
The trio was paired together and started exploring with the teacher on duty.
They saw the crocodile feeding: a deep large pit where the rangers put pieces of meat together on a rope and the crocodiles bite the ropes
Seeing snakes at transparent glass windows which scared some of the students.
Encountering birds of prey as one of the students was wearing protective gloves to hold an Eagle.
Everything else went smoothly in the trip, evening came and everybody else in the bus was talking excitedly about the trip unlike the trio.
Mary
Well, Pyro how was the trip?
Pyro
Well, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either, everything was... Predictable.
Tim
Right? It was so mid, nothing exciting really.
Mary
I went back there a long time ago, it was good but I really don't see the vision of it anymore.
BOOM!!!! The bus's lights flicker as it was the shockwave that hit the bus making it rock sideways, lo and behold one of the highway roads was destroyed, what destroyed it: unknown but the road was destroyed and the bus fell to it's side and as sliding down it fell off the road side.
As this was going on everything is moving in slow motion for Pyro, was he in a dilemma or had he made up his mind?
Pyro (calm but slightly frustrated)
(damn, what the hell am I supposed to do now, if I save them my existence is going to be investigated and if I don't and come out unscathed I'm still going to be suspicious no matter how it looks)
He looks at his side and notices instinctively Mary holding his arm tightly as she can as well as Tim and he smiles slightly.
Pyro
(Humph, I guess I always knew what the answer was deep down, maybe I just wanted confirmation.)
He breaks free from Mary and flies out the window and looks at the beautiful sunset whilst on top of the bus and lets the sun caress his face for a few more seconds.
Since the bus was falling upside down he flies beneath it and sets it the proper way, then flies inside the bus and makes sure everyone is seated and with seatbelts on including the teachers and the students, then he flies beneath it. His hands supporting the bottom he carries the bus slowly but surely to the ground and after ensuring it's safety he destroys the falling debris from touching the bus and finally takes his seat at the exact position he's in placing his hands back to Mary and Tim.
Now everything was done in the span of 14 seconds from the bus falling to stopping the debris. This ability was called 'Overclock' an art only mastered by experienced and powerful Kelions such as Arya and now his son Pyro, though this was the first time he used this technique so he's quite away from fully mastering it.
When everything was moving at the same pace again everyone single person in the bus was beyond shocked. To them one second they were falling and the next they were safely down the ground and even the cars were pulling emergency breaks trying to stop collision.
After coming back to their senses the teachers immediately check on the students making sure everyone is alright and repeating the roll call a few more times until everyone was alright.
Pyro (stoic)
Both of you. That's enough trying to squeeze life out me.
Mary (embarrassed and blushing)
Oh, sorry about that.
Awkwardly both of them let go of his hands.
Tim ( embarrassed)
Yeah, sorry.
They notice his nose bleeding.
Mary and Tim
You're bleeding!!
Pyro palms his nose.
Pyro
(using overclock must've taken an unexpected toll on my body, but if it's just a bloody nose I'll be fine.)
He wipes it off with his handkerchief.
Pyro
I never liked these, but Sara always packing it did come handy.
(luckily my blood is red, just like the rest of them otherwise it might've been a problem.)
As he was about to put the handkerchief away Mary grabs it and puts it back on his nose and bends his head forward.
Mary
Seriously, how reckless are you? can't you take care of yourself? (Sighs) you need to let all the residual blood come out. You can't let it get back to your system.
Pyro smiles a bit
Pyro
Thank you.
After that she wipes him off gently and returns the handkerchief back to him. After some calls Mr. Masinde address the class.
Mr. Masinde
Attention please!! I have called your parents, so let's get out of the bus in an orderly fashion and wait patiently for them.
As the students are hurriedly getting out of the bus Pyro stumbles and falls as his legs were shaking and supports himself with a seat and breathes heavily.
Tim
(he puts on a brave face but he was just as scared maybe more scared than we are.)
Pyro
(Damn it, overclock took way more of a toll than I expected, I'm starting to feel the effects, i can't move like this.)
Tim takes his right hand and puts it around his shoulder and supports him.
Pyro
Hey, I can---
Tim (interjects)
Shh, shh, shh, I understand, I'll help you get out of the bus, come on.
Mary takes his left hand and puts it around her shoulder.
Mary
I'll help too.
Pyro
You two don't have to---
Mary
Alright then, Tim, let's move in sync so he doesn't fall. Left, right, left, right, left, right, got it?
Tim
Gotcha.
They support him out of the bus and set him down at the front wheel and his breathing becomes a little easier, but a little ragged.
Pyro (a bit of ragged breathing)
You two didn't have to---
Tim (interjects)
Out here if your friends help you, you say thanks.
Pyro cracks a little smile.
Pyro
You're right, thank you, the both of you.
Tim
See, it's not that hard.
Mary
Hang on a sec, since when were we friends with you?
Tim (jokingly)
Since way before right now.
Mary just clicks her tongue at him.
To be continued
