Season 2 – Chapter 4: A Heart on the Edge
The sun was slowly setting behind the mountain peaks as the paths leading to Fert wound through dense forest clearings. The wind carried the scent of pine trees and fresh soil, while leaves and grass rustled beneath their feet. Even though the road was familiar, the tension among the three of them made every step feel heavy and burdensome.
Yuki walked beside Akira, feeling her heart beating faster and faster. Her thoughts tangled wildly: “Why does he care about her so much? Why does he help her more, smile at her more… and me…?” Jealousy burned quietly in her chest, growing with every small gesture of attention Akira showed toward Aria. Her hand unconsciously tightened around her backpack strap, and her eyes kept meeting his, searching for a sign that he still thought about her too.
Aria walked between them, more relaxed now, yet still observant as she watched their interactions develop. From time to time, a shy smile appeared in her eyes, though she was still not fully aware of the turmoil inside Yuki.
As they crossed a small forest stream, Yuki made a decision—she could no longer endure the silent pain of jealousy. She had to tell him, to open her heart and show how much he meant to her.“If I don’t do this now, maybe I’ll never have the courage…” the thought echoed in her mind as her breathing quickened from a mix of fear and determination.
When they stopped in a small clearing, Yuki took a deep breath. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dancing across her face while the wind carried the scent of the forest. Her hands trembled and her heart felt as if it were stuck in her throat. Slowly she lifted her gaze toward Akira, her eyes filled with both determination and fear.
“Akira…” she began quietly, her voice trembling.
He turned toward her, the smile he usually wore now gentle but confused—he had not expected such seriousness.

“I… I… love you,” Yuki said softly but clearly. Every word carried honesty and vulnerability. Her heart leapt in her chest and her breathing became uneven. Her hands hovered near her bag while her body stayed tense, waiting for his response.
Akira stood frozen in shock, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at Yuki. Slowly he lowered the piece of food he had been holding while trying to figure out how to react. His thoughts swirled: “I can’t… this is unexpected… how do I explain this… and Aria…” His heart was conflicted—his feelings were clear, but the situation was complicated.
Yuki sensed his confusion. Her jealousy and fear slowly turned into quiet sadness as she waited for his answer. The eyes that were usually steady and decisive now shone with uncertainty, and that was enough for Yuki to feel a small hole forming in her heart—but also a sense of relief that she had finally spoken the truth.
Aria stood to the side, watching the situation with a gentle smile and a hint of hesitation. She couldn’t fully understand all the emotions intertwining between them, but she could feel the energy between the two—honest, powerful, and complicated.
The sun continued to set, casting golden-orange shadows through the treetops while the wind softly rustled the leaves. The three of them stood in the clearing; the silence was heavy but meaningful. Akira took a deep breath, trying to find the right words, but none came out. His confusion was obvious, and Yuki could see it clearly.
“He’s not giving me a clear answer… but at least he knows…” Yuki thought as her heart still beat rapidly. Her jealousy slowly blended with relief—at least now she was no longer hiding anything.
Later that night, as they set up a small camp beside the stream, Yuki sat near the fire listening to the sounds of the forest. Her thoughts spun endlessly—she had confessed her feelings, yet Akira had not given an immediate answer. But something had changed. She felt that their steps toward Fert were now more than just a journey through the forest—they had become a path toward new bonds, new emotions, and new challenges that would shape their relationships.
Akira sat beside her, quietly staring into the fire, trying to think of how to answer Yuki, while Aria observed everything from the side. His inner dialogue was filled with dilemmas and sincere emotions, but also the fear of making the wrong choice.
This was the moment when Yuki took control of her emotions—when jealousy became a catalyst for honesty, and the journey to Fert became more than a physical path. It became a journey of the heart, trust, and a love that had only just begun to grow.
