After celebrations ended, Captain Eleanor decided to finally investigate the location marked by General Winston.
"This is group Alpha, entering the structure."
"This is group Beta, following group Alpha."
Eleanor and Yelena had gathered 5 of their men each to enter the bunker-like structure.
On group Alpha was Justin, James, Jolina, Lex and Luna.
On group Beta was Petrov, Andrei, Anastasia and two soldiers from the Arnhem base.
The location was a data center not far east of Arnhem proper.
"Left.", Justin signaled
James gathered the courage to move through the corner.
Firearm ready, he turned to the corner and reported.
"There's a whole load of nothing here!"
The others felt relieved.
They continued through the doors before finally being met with a long corridor.
Justin led the unit, being careful as to not risk a trap.
Luna in the middle of the column caught something in the corner of her eye.
As she slowly pointed her gun, the mounted flashlight revealed a device.
"What is that?", she asked softly.
"I think it's called a telephone. It's like a big cellphone.", James answered.
They slowly continued to walk closer and closer to the end of the hallway, seeing chips and CD's.
"Those things look old!", Anastasia exclaimed.
"Think for a second, this place is abandoned.", said Petrov.
Upon reaching the end of the hallway, Justin slowly turned the doorknob, revealing the otherside.
"Oh great, more rooms.", James complained.
But Justin noticed a single room that had restricted written.
"We should check it out.", he said.
As they entered the room, they saw rows of computer storage.
"Get the drive and get the data.", Justin ordered.
"That's the last one, isn't it?"
"Well, I mean yea. These storage are all connected to the same server anyway.", Justin replied to James.
They left the structure with a successful mission. All that needed to be done was upload the data and bring it back to HQ.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Thankfully, the Nova had this system built-in for long-distance file upload.
"There we go! That should let us see these files now!", the crew member said.
"Do I see search history - Cardiff?", Luna asked.
"How would they keep track of that?", she thought.
James tapped the shoulder of the operator and whispered.
"Hey, can you delete the file she just said?"
The guy smirked back at him.
"Sure can do."
But as they looked through the files, they finally got to the information from restricted room.
"Project : PULSE - London..?", Justin wondered.
They read the description.
"After numerous observations and reports, our chosen candidate from the city of London is... Suzina Rinmann."
But their confused faces were disrupted by the captain as she entered the room.
"You are all excused."
And they all left, excluding one person..
Jolina, being Jolina, decided to stay away from the group and see what could the file mean.
After a long while since the group split up, Justin had a thought, "Who have I not checked up on?"
Scanning his memory thoroughly, he found that specific person.
He knocked at Suzina's room door, but to no response.
"Suzina?", he asked.
"Not here!", answered the opposite voice.
His face was in a state of both disbelief and disappointment.
"Haha, funny there Suzina."
But Suzina did not think she was funny.
"What do you want?", she asked.
Justin facepalmed and laid on the door.
"Did Jolina tell you something?"
Suddenly, she opened the door, letting Justin drop to the floor.
"Hey! What was that for?
Her face looked dull.
"Are you coming in or what?"
Justin, still hurt from the fall, said, "Well, I did just fall, but okay."
He entered the room, same as last time.
"What did Jolina say to you this time?", he said, fists tightened.
After a short moment, she said, "Project : PULSE... she told me everything."
He remembered that moment in the datalab just earlier.
"Oh, what's with it?"
Abruptly, she started covering her eyes and burst in tears.
"You look like just came out a drama movie with a bad ending."
She fought back her tears and said, "Am I still human, Justin?"
His face utterly confused.
"I'm not getting what you're saying."
"I'm in Project : PULSE right?"
She handed him her tablet with a message from Jolina.
He picked up the device and started to read the file.
After only a few words, he was both shocked and mad at the same time.
"How could she send this so casually?", he thought, holding down on the sides of her tablet.
Those messages were about the PULSE project and Suzina.
10 years ago, the tech and AI company "Convergence Co." secretly ran experiments disguised as experimental medical treatments for brain-related illnesses.
"By chemically altering the structure of the human brain, we have found evidence to prove that the human can be modified to have abilities far greater than any thing.", he read.
On January 4, 2076, we managed to bring in patient Suzina Rinmann (diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy or JME) and conducted the experimental treatment...
Justin saw the actions done by the company to Suzina. Used as a test subject for their experiments.
After conducting the beam surgery, the subject's brain not only showed signs of recovery from the orginal illness, but also intense brainwave activity.
Upon arriving to the last parts, he read,
Observstions on the subject saw increased physical healing, spatial awareness and decision making.
The operation was a complete success. Subject Suzina Rinmann, successfully enhanced with PULSE.
He closed the tablet and set it aside.
"Suzina..."
Suzina, still weeping, said, "What will happen if... Sir Franks, the captain... Luna, James, what if they think of me differently now?"
He noticed her hands gripping on the bed fabric and sucked his teeth in regret.
"Look Suzina, I'd comfort you if I knew how, but it's not like I do."
She laughed through her crying.
"Then can you just stay... even just for a while?"
"You know what...", he looked at his watch and said, "I'll stay how ever long you need."
She couldn't hold back her tears as she swept her arms around him, hugging him, crying.
"Sis is gonna have a talk from me later on.", he declared.
"What?"
"...Nothing.", he corrected.
After a short moment, she managed to calm herself.
She adjusted her position, laying herself on his shoulder.
"You're pretty heavy you know."
She let out a subtle chuckle.
"Thank you... Justin."
Meanwhile just outside stood Jolina.
Holding her tablet as she peeked through a slight gap in the door.
"Lucky you little brother, you'll thank me when the time is right."
