Iteration 14 -Better than Yesterday

After managing to hold the line for an hour and a half against the core-type Harbinger, the Argis is finally ready for round 2.

  "Suzina."

"Suzina here, how is it captain?"

"The battle isn't really going great, think you can change that?"

  Her face brightened up.

  "Ma'am, I trust Sir Franks."

  The captain smirked.

  "You're good to go then."

The Aegis was set on to the launchpad.

"Suzina, nice to meet you again. Transferring launch controls to the Aegis."

Inside the cockpit, she was flicking levers and pressing buttons left and right.

"Nice to meet you again as well, Althea. Man have I never called you that before."

The other side was filled with laughter.

"Maybe that's because you have a special mood today."

Suzina looked infront of her screen as she finished her setup.

"You know what, maybe I am in a special mood."

You could hear a silent scoff in the background.

She looked at her communications line and saw another person.

"Why don't you just launch already? I can barely do anything here."

  She was shocked.

"Andrei? How did you get here?"

"Shut up and launch already. The entire force is waiting for you."

Indeed it was, everyone was delighted to hear that the person who could end the battle had arrived.

"Well in that case. Suzina Rinmann, Aegis Reform, launch!"

The mecha was launched by the pad until she switched to her own thrusters.

Upon release, the hangar shook due to the sonic boom-like wave the vehicle produced.

The soldiers below the space battleships could only gaze in amazement as she headed straight towards the battlefield.

It's Twin-Lyensk Optimized Thrusters left a trail of blue and green.

Nevertheless, the battle for the Aegis had started.

On her screen appeared communication lines from Justin's group.

"Suzina, we're glad you finally made it!"

  "Aww, guys."

"Anyways, we have a target for you."

She increased the volume to hear clearer.

"We spotted a weakness on that thing, it's like a rail connecting the drones to the orb, all you need to do is destroy it."

  "Okay, where is it?"

"At the back of the core."

  Her jaw dropped.

"What? You expect me to hit something like that?"

  Justin scratched his head.

"Well, I mean. Look, it doesn't have to be you. We just need that thing destroyed and that destroys the drones."

She was still staring at the screen in disbelief.

  "Okay, let's try something out."

Laughters emerged from the other side.

  "That's the Suzina we know!"

  The line was cut.

She tightened her controls and focused on her screen.

"Sir Franks and Mr. Boris, let's test your creation out."

She increased her speed and started to head to the Harbinger.

She shouted as she pointed her Rapier at the enemy, charging like before.

As expected, a drone intercepted her and threatened to shoot her.

A beam fired at her but the mecha was built for this.

With a quick turn, the entire mecha dodged the laser just in time.

She managed to grab the drone and stab through the middle.

The piece of metal fell down to the ground.

"The Reform isn't any joke, I see. Why stop here?!"

She charged at another drone again.

It retreated and seemed to call upon the others to intercept.

But yet again, this was what the Reform is built for."

Multiple beams shot at the Aegis yet none hit.

Before a second volley could fire, Suzina was already in the back piercing a drone.

The men on the ground could not believe what was happening above them.

"Two drones in 2 minutes?", exclaimed a Eurasian.

"Men, don't waste the opportunity, supporting fire now!", ordered Eleanor.

The ground forces lit up the sky, isolating each drone.

As another drone attempted to fire from both left and right, Suzina showed another addition to her monster.

A stab for one drone and a blast for another.

It's forearm cannons had been significantly improved for long range warfare, replacing plasma with beams.

  Another two drones had fallen.

However, one had sneaked up behind the Aegis.

Suzina had seen it too late.

A beam of light stretched from the ground to the skies above as communication was established.

"Looks like you owe me one.", said Andrei.

"Next time, tell me where you're going so I know how support.", he added.

  Suzina smiled.

"I've never seen you more lively than today!"

  The line was cut immediately.

  Her eyebrow raised.

"What did I say wrong?", she wondered.

Alarms blared as 3 drones were now firing at her from afar.

  "I got this!"

She charged at the 3 enemies, cutting through the air with her rapier, cutting through the enemies as well.

Meanwhile, Andrei had gotten his second kill.

Suddenly, something caught Suzina's eye, just behind the Harbinger itself.

  "What are those?"

What those happened to be were smaller versions of the drones, but not big enough for a cannon.

Instead, they were moving downwards, not to the forces, but to the destroyed drones.

"What in the world is that?", everyone wondered.

The only one that caught their purpose was Justin.

"Suzina! Andrei! Finish off those drones from earlier, those things are trying to get them back and repaired!"

Shock and disbelief stormed the two pilots.

"What are you saying Justin?", asked Suzina.

"He's right, they look like the kind that picks things up and repairs stuff. We better get to them quick."

  Suzina nodded in agreement.

  "Got it."

Her vehicle barreled downwards to the fallen drones and sliced one in half.

  "That oughto to do it."

A beam came from behind and shot the next drone.

  "Stay dead.", he commanded.

The two made quick work of another 6 husks, preventing repair.

However, before the two could find their next targets, the remaining drones had seen them as prey.

Two blasts came from above as Suzina barely managed to dodge.

"What are you doing? Stop that!"

She charged in frustration towards the two drones and stabbed one in half twice.

"That should make you unrepairable.", she wondered.

She turned to the other drone and made quick work of it by kicking it and blowing it into pieces with her forearm lasers.

Meanwhile, Andrei was fighting off the last drone as he switched to bolt-action mode.

He and the drone seemed to be in a dance as both dodged and fired.

Eventually, he forced the drone into position his rifle was aimed at.

In that was second, everything felt gray, everything other than the enemy.

Then, a beam of light tore through the Harbinger, refusing it any way of recovering.

But the predicament was not over.

Suzina had destroyed one of the drones, but one was remaining and was close to repair.

"Andrei! Shoot it now! Being able to recover one of those means being able to make a dozen more in a second!"

He gripped his controls and looked through his sights.

"I know that Justin! It was all in military academy!"

He aimed at the enemy with his sniper rifle, one shot from victory.

A miss meant the battle would start all over again.

The air grew heavy and his hands were sweaty.

After what deltnlike an eternity, he pulled the trigger.

  "Down!", Justin shouted.
