Iteration 10 - A Broken Alliance

Back in Amsterdam, the Eurasians surprisingly did not cooperate with the NADUR forces, thus, both of them had to retreat since no one could take on the core-type Harbinger on their own.

"Contact the Zabytaya now!", angrily commanded Eleanor.

  The screen brightened.

"What's your deal?! We almost won and you wasted it!", she added.

"We wasted it?", Yelena struck back. "Don't take this personally but it was your fault!"

The captain was offended, to not take this personally was a miracle.

"Don't aim your frustration at us Eleanor! It was you who threw away the plan!"

"We threw it away as to not throw more men away, Eurasian and NADUR alike!"

"We have already been through this Eleanor. If you insist on not cooperating, we can just fight separately."

The disrespect was clear as day to the officers who from that incident at Amsterdam all the way now have been gripping their fists tightly.

"No competent commander would ever follow your kind of plan!"

"And yours was worth even considering? This argument is over.", Yelena sharply proclaimed.

The communication was cut abruptly with both sides, blood boiling against the other.

Meanwhile in Hangar 3, the Aegis had been recovered.

"Get Rinmann out of that thing! Get me the crane, immediately!", ordered the head engineer.

Everyone was shocked to see just how damaged the Aegis was.

"Rinmann extracted, get me a stretcher!", reported a member.

But as the crew laid her on the stretcher, one of them noticed that all her vitals were... normal.

  From another perspective...

"Come on, come on! Let's get this thing into repair!", Franks commanded as the crane moved the disabled vehicle.

"The Eurasians... what in the world were they thinking? I guess they're really just empty-minded people with funny accents.", he thought as they ran towards the repair sector.

However, as they inspected the chunk of metal, they saw a pattern.

"Sir Franks, somehow, none of the beams hit a critical target."

To people who have always thought that Harbingers were cruel, soulless beings, this was groundbreaking.

"That's impossible! No Harbinger would ever intentionally miss; it just can't possibly be."

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

After this, the men piloting the Challengers and FOBPAs finally managed to gather themselves after terrible scenes. Amongst these were James, Luna and Justin.

"That thing, what even was that thing?", James wondered.

"Luna, quickly punch me as hard as you can, I have got to be dreaming!", said James.

"As hard as I can? Sure thing!", she replied as her hand hit him in the face.

The thud of him hitting the floor echoed for miles.

"Hey! Not that hard Luna!", he complained.

"You, reckless ace wannabe, I can't keep saving you from all the hits, if the time comes where I'm not there to save you, what will happen to you? Think for once, James!"

He was shocked, he definitely did not expect this reaction.

  "Stop babysitting me then, Luna!"

"How am I not supposed to babysit you? You keep charging into beams without thinking of your safety! If I wasn't there in Brighton, If I wasn't here in Amsterdam, you... you would be dead by now!"

  James was stunned.

"Stop fighting you two! Why can't you two think of the ones we lost instead of shouting at each other? We just lost so many comrades to that Harbinger, have some respect!"

Luna, after a short moment, finally calmed down.

You're right, my apologies. But to you, James, you better start acting better!"

"Okay, okay! I promise, I'll be less reckless. Now, can you pull me up. I'm kind of finding it hard to get up."

Luna then grabbed his hand and pulled James up.

"Wait, Justin, aren't you supposed to go to the Medi-lab for Suzina?"

"Oh, yea. Can you guys follow?"

The two looked at each other, and as if some sort of telepathic communication occurred, said in unison.

  "Sorry, kind of busy."

"Oh, too bad then, I guess."

Then, Luna looked at James and stated.

"He has no bloody clue, does he?"

Meanwhile in the Medi-lab a few moments later...

  "Looking for Suzina Rinmann."

"Room 3 over there on the right."

  "Thank you."

Justin then arrived at the room and opened the door, seeing an unconscious Suzina.

  "Oh, you must be Justin."

"Uhm, yes I am?", he replied shockingly.

"Well, your sister came here earlier to inform me that you would go here."

"Of course she would.", he said annoyingly.

"Well anyways, be thankful since she really only got minor bruising and cuts. She is still passed out after that fall."

"To be honest, I think she's a superhuman or something for surviving that.", the Doctor added.

"She has always been enduring. But when do you think she can wake up?"

"Oh, I'm not one to tell. The body gets up when it thinks it can"

Then, there was a small movement, catching the doctor's eyes.

  "J-Justin?"

Suddenly, his face brightened more than the sun.

"Suzina!", he shouted before squeezing her with all his strength.

"Ouch! Wait a second Justin! I'm still injured you know!"

"Sorry, sorry. I'm just glad you've woken up.", he said while backing up.

"Where even am I? I had this weird dream. We were in a battle, and the Eurasians weren't coordinating. I honestly remember nothing after that."

"Don't worry, it's a fleeting memory gap. She will remember everything later on.", the Doctor intervened.

  Justin nodded in understanding.

"Well, it's true unfortunately. The battle was a mess of arguing allies.", he replied.

"How are the others? Is the battle still ongoing? I have got to g-get back up."

"The battle is over, we lost. Besides, the Aegis is in repair."

"Oh... ok. Why did you come here anyway?", she wondered.

"I had to check up on you after the battle."

  "Oh... thank you, Justin."

"I'll be going now, get well Suzina."

  "I will."

  The Doctor then added.

"Well, I'll get going as well, I think you can handle yourself here Rinmann."

  "Yea, I can. Thanks Doc."

Justin and the Doctor left the room.

As she was trying to go back to sleep, she felt a tingling sensation.

When she closed her eyes, she saw that Harbinger. A vision of the one that defeated her. Voices over communication channels, soldiers complaining and asking who to follow. She heard these noises for a split-second.

But after that split-second, she finally understood everything.

Clearly, the battle had really not gone well. Confusion and the gap between Eurasians and NADUR forces kept expanding with no end in sight. Countless men were injured and resources were lost.

The next problem is how Eleanor is supposed to report this to HQ.
