Prologue

By 2076, the world was filled with tension, wars were common and all sides kept improving their militaries to be stronger than the others.

Politics and diplomacy were an incoherent mess, and all of this would lead to an incident that changed the world.

The NADUR Prime Minister was to attend a conference with the Eurasian Premier, Eastasian Supreme Leader and the IOA President to hopefully resolve the ongoing conflicts in the middle east, Europe and Myanmar.

“Good morning gentlemen”, greeted the Prime Minister.

“It is quite unfortunate the Neo-Oceanian President cannot meet with us today.”, he added.

The Prime Minister sat down on his chair.

“Well, let’s get to the point, shall we? Europe is a mess, small nations are still fighting each other for territory in the Balkans and Central Europe, how do you account for this Prime Minister Jean Linkston?”, stated the Eurasian Premier.

  The Prime Minister scoffed.

“I think you are mistaken Mr. Sergei Orlov sir, it is Eurasia as a whole that needs to take account of this disaster, we cannot forget that your nation was the first to create a bloc of nations practically under your control.” conversed the Prime Minister.

The Premier's eyes grew large in shock.

“It was a state of defense against your creeping nation; we believe that it was necessary for peacekeeping to take place in Europe.”

“We as a superpower have been protecting Europe for as long as time itself, your very existence destroyed the balance of power in that region causing this!”

Their voices had started to raise.

“Eurasia was in threat of war from your nation the NADUR and we had to protect the small nations of Europe!”

His head nodding side to side in disbelief from the audacity of that man.

“Protect or subjugate Mr. Premier? We threatened war only because you were threatening northern Europe!”

The Premier was heavily offended. His fist slammed the desk in front of him.

“You have been a major setback for communism since forever with your pig-like capitalism! You people are not meant to live in Europe, as after a history of war it deserves a taste of communism, to bring it peace!”

The IOA President shushed the two.

“Gentlemen, let us all calm down, let’s not forget that you two nations are the only rivals here on Earth. Let’s also not forget that Neo-Oceania and Eastasia have been engaging us in border disputes even before you two started bickering with each other."

The Supreme Leader's brow visibly raised and and his fists tightened.

“Us? Engage you in border disputes? Your nation, the IOA, Mr. Aamir Qureshi, has been a thorn in our side after you challenged our oil reserves in the Indian Ocean!”, strongly the Supreme Leader of Eastasia said.

“Those oil reserves were in our territory, you had no right to them at all!”, replied the President.

His hand strongly in front of himself. Unmoving.

“We needed those oil reserves for our industry, and you wouldn’t sell to us! What do you think we should have done, huh!?”, said the Supreme Leader.

The man was stomping eratically on the floor, showcasing his anger against the one in front of him.

“I’m afraid this meeting is going nowhere. Now if you will excuse me.”, disappointedly said the Prime Minister.

“I agree”, stated the Eurasian Premier.

Soon after another, the IOA and the Eastasian leaders left as well, with people once again witnessing a failure in diplomacy for world peace.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

However, this was not rare, in fact, it was common that the leaders of the nations didn’t even agree on the date of the conference.

It was already a miracle they could attend this one, but a second miracle, that they could finally negotiate something, was too far-fetched.

“Father! How did the conference go?”

He nodded his head in disappointment.

“Awful as usual Anna, everyone talked, everyone argued, and the meeting was over.” Said the NADUR Prime Minister.

“But why again? Why must your disputes continue despite these efforts?”

She held his hand and looked at him with wonder.

“Because everyone is simply too greedy, and I, myself agree that even I am too greedy. It is human nature to be greedy, unfortunately. You won’t understand yet at your age.” He replied.

“But I am old enough and I can tell that you're incorrect father! There can be people who are kind and fair!”

She held her fists and looked downwards.

“Believe me Anna! This is the way of humanity; greed is unavoidable in us humans and there is nothing anyone can do about it! Now let’s go, your mother must be waiting.”

Little did Anna know, she really was too young to understand her father.

  15:45, April 5, 2076, Havana Military Base

“Man is it hot today. It’s like 33 degrees out here.”

“Say less, I hate being on guard duty when no one can even find this place”, another soldier said, fanning the wind towards himself.

“Wait, is that the girl you like? Perhaps this time you’ll get the courage to approach her.”

Their eyes locked on to the figure ahead.

“What? No way, not today man hahaha.”

“Want a granola bar? It will help you pass the time”

He offered the bar to him like a lure.

“Oh no thanks, I never was a fan of those. Hahahaha”, two soldiers in the Havana Military Base of the NADUR conversed.

A deep hum was then heard by the two in storage room 41, a storage for a new weapon.

“What is that? Finally, something interesting happens.”

They looked at each other for a moment.

“You couldn’t be righter, at least we’re doing something other than just standing hahahaha.”

As the door opened to the storage room, the guards were shocked.

“Woah, that is not supposed to light up yet, chill down, can you?”

  But it was too late.

There was a click, then a flash, then a beam weapon the strongest of its kind fired upwards then suddenly towards the storage gate, dissipating it.

The soldiers could only jump behind a box of spare parts for cover.

They gasped for air trying to process what is happening.

“Impossible. How is that thing moving? I thought it was powered off like with all security measures!”

“How would I know, don’t ask me. This is such a terrible position to be in. Uhhhh, let’s just get the world out of here!”

While the two men ran out the storage room to escape, a claw rose to the sky and shattered the storage room in mere seconds.

Metal met concrete in a brutal clash.

Afterwards, its mechanical tail swung against the thick walls of the base, sparks lighting up the place.

“There, there! That’s the exit! Carlos? Carlos! Where are you man?”

“Man, you’ve got to help me I’m stuck!”

  He turned around in shock.

He run to his friend's position, hoping for a chance.

“Grab my hand man! We’ll pull you out of there!”

But the awoken machine did not let this happen, instead, there was a flash, and then an explosion at where they are, or perhaps, where they were.

The men of the facility attempted to fire at it with beam weaponry and cannons, but to no avail, it either tanked them or simply destroyed them before they could fire back. In only a few hours, the entirety of the compound was annihilated

“Come on now, fire! Fire those cannons!”

“Sir, the Havana Military Base is infiltrated they say! What do we do? The situation is a losing battle, and we are losing too much men!”

“I know, I know! Hmmmm, aim the Ion Particle Cannon at the base, annihilate it with whatever is inside!”

“Sir! Why can’t we just support them?”, the radio operator said to the general.

The general thought for a while, sacrificng the men was harsh, but the data prove it.

“I am not going to be the cause of even more losses, if we send more men, we’ll lose more men! Fire the Ion Cannon now!”

  "But Sir! No!"

  But it was too late.

“Ion Particle Cannon ready! Ion Particle Cannon Fire!”, reported the cannon operator.

Afterward, the base was ultimately annihilated, but as the smoke cleared the general couldn’t have been more shocked, emerging was that mechanism, almost unfazed.

Then, they saw a flash, then even the Ion Cannon Base was destroyed.

However, the list of the affected did not end there but also in other superpowers such as Eurasia and the IOA.

These machines were meant to be used for combat as they did not know of such things as mercy and thus would eliminate entire populations soullessly.

These machines were meant to be AI - Powered War Machines, they are called Harbingers and these things went berserk.
