Step! Floating noises!
With a perfectly thought-out plan in mind, we get moving towards the unknown future, hoping to find what we are looking for. We decided to explore this floor first, leaving the second floor for last. However, the more we walk around, the more we look around, the only thing we can find are vestiges of once a great library. Almost everything on it is destroyed, filled with dust and forgotten to the world as no one bothered to even come here one last time after the chaotic event as there are no traces of human activity at all. This got destroyed by an unknown phenomenon and yet, the owner of this library, this area and even this world, none of them seem to care.
Or maybe, said owner is already gone and this is the simple consequence of such.
That is a good possibility but, we still are in a Bubble Universe, maybe it was created like this right at the beginning. Who knows, just the fact that it’s part of a Bubble Universe that then belongs to the Sea of The Universe, we really can’t discard the possibility that it was already created like this just because the Sea so demanded. The rules on these universes are beyond chaotic however, the world itself somehow, can surpass said chaos, reaching an uncontrollable disorder with it or a perfect harmony as a complete contradiction. Nothing makes sense but that’s only to us, the outsiders. Those that are from said universes, it’s nothing more than common sense. This might be the case right now, both I and Miss Pink Orb are outsiders, seeing something like this in our world, it automatically gives reason and validity to everything that we said and described but here, what I’ve been claiming to be one possible truth might as well be wrong and false.
Sigh… I really like to yap, now do I?
“Are you seeing anything?”
Just as I was thinking about the origins of this place, this soft fairy-like voice gently embraces me back to reality with her mellow voice. To be honest, amidst this chaos it’s hard to see anything useful. There are several rows of shelves, each one stretches for far too long and of course, the height compliments said “stretch”, forcing even me to use a small step to reach the top shelf and whatever might be on them. But these shelves at this moment, they are nothing more than debris, as they are destroyed, literally. While there might be a few of them that seemed to have resisted the catastrophe that went through this place, they are empty, whatever they had on them is now a distant memory, forgotten by the world itself. Although, the only objects that they would have are books, several of them of course but only them I would guess. The shelves that are still standing, I can easily see on them a small plaque with a “name” on it, a type is more correct as for example one of them reads, “History”.
“There are a few magic residues here and there but nothing else for now. Although the state of the library is worse than I initially thought.”
“I agree and I think it’s a shame… From how big this library is, I can only imagine how it once looked like. Filled with students, eagerly looking to satiate their curiosity and desire to acquire knowledge…”
Uhm, since I’ve been too occupied to find a reason why this place is in this state, I never stopped to think in that manner. I’m too focused on today that I have completely forgotten about yesterday, let alone the future. This place is huge, it seems to have close to 4000 square meters, quite massive in other words and now that I’m saying this, it seems to be far bigger than the area outside. Now that’s odd… Anyway, the areas in here that still are somewhat preserved, I can say that they are expensive and high quality. Now, what do I mean by this? Quite simple, the shelves that are still standing and are not completely destroyed, the materials they are made off, wood in this case and to be precise Mahogany wood, it more than seems to be extremely high quality and expensive not only that, some of the shelves have something akin to a “carpet” on them, one that is coloured in a purple colour and this “carpet” of course it also follows the same build quality as the shelves. The books themselves, the ones that are not completely torn and ripped apart that is, they also seem to follow the same philosophy. The ground itself is covered by a carpet, not the same one as in the stairs for example but one that follows the same quality although the majority of it has been destroyed, exposing the floor beneath it and to my surprise, it actually is a stone floor. Or at least tiles that resemble stone but for the smooth and polished side. There are a few windows here and there that light up the library, providing more than enough light to it that not a single corner is covered in darkness but just like happened when I was thrown into those rooms a few hours ago, the “outside” is nothing more than a bright white light that does not allow me nor her to actually see and understand what’s past this point.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
“Putting it in that way, I can imagine that. I mean, just look at that table over there. While there aren’t any chairs near it and while it’s partially destroyed, I can still easily imagine a student sitting down on one of the chairs, carrying several books with him. Carefully putting them down on the table and then, grabbing the top one, slowly putting it on the table and opening it right after. Just like that pile over there…”
Huh, fate sure is convenient sometimes, don’t you think?
“You found something? You stopped talking…”
“I-Uh yes, I think I’ve found something.”
Man, I can only imagine the look on my face as I stopped talking mid-sentence. Just as I was looking at that table, imagining the scenario that I was describing only to then a few seconds later notice that I was somewhat describing reality itself. There isn’t a student there and the pile of books is nothing more than a “semi pile” where half of it is nowhere to be seen while the rest of the table is barely holding itself. Then, next to the semi pile of books there is an open book, one that has magic on it. Just a little bit though, but more than enough to draw my attention to it and of course, stopping my mouth from allowing the words to leave from it and finishing the sentence that I started and making me do that face. Anyway, I can feel the curiosity from Miss Pink Orb and I can’t blame her, after all, I did say that I found something. From here, we walk up to the table and consequently to the open book.
“A book? Is there something on it that caught your interest?”
“It has magic on it, not much though. But, let’s check what we have here, the book itself seems to be in a decent state, at least enough to read.”
Now, let’s see what we have here…
“The Forbidden Birth.”
This is the title of the book and while I did say that the book itself is in a decent state, the cover of the book seems to have been somewhat torn, almost removed from the book itself, leaving only the title of it intact. That’s rather odd but, let’s keep going it won’t change much, I think.
“In a faraway village, located at the edge of the world, a child is born yet again. Such is the natural course of life. In this case however, unfortunately the world itself didn’t want such a birth. Nor the inhabitants of the village and the gods themselves for that matter. The consequence of a romance between a mortal and a god, giving birth to something akin to a demigod. Causing a sin that is known as the Forbidden Birth. The god and the woman were both hated by everyone around them and even beyond their immediate surroundings. The villagers, the gods and even the world seemed to hate them with a vivid hatred that influenced how they treated these sinners. The god was punished, but only once the other gods found the atrocity of what he did, saying to him that he contaminated the “family” because of it. The baby that was born from their forbidden intercourse is the source of the contamination as it has god genes on its small body. The god was sentenced to eternity in hell so that he no longer could commit the same crime again and of course so that he could not raise the baby, all in hopes that it would be enough for nature to kill the baby.
The woman suffered a similar fate as she was hated by the villagers. To them, she committed the worst crime possible that a human being can commit. Being in sexual contact with a god and poisoning their pure “family” with her repugnant baby because of such contact. While she was not sentenced to death immediately, her life was shortened drastically, a short miserable horrible life filled with only suffering and pain. She did everything she could to take care of her baby and the next five years were pure hell thanks to it but, her efforts weren’t in vain. The baby has grown to a child, one that for now is yet to be noticed by the gods however the same cannot be said about the villagers. As they do everything in their power to make his life miserable just like his mother life.”
…….
……
…
“That’s such a sad story… But what happened next?”
“I have no clue, past these pages and the book starts to talk about the gods. But from my quick reading, it has nothing to do with the story itself.”
“Ah, is that so? I wanted to know the rest of the story…”
While I won’t deny that I’m also quite curious, I’m actually more confused than anything else. The story not only ends in such a cliff hanger but the rest of the book really is about gods, their origins, names, powers and so on. Nothing related to the story although, it’s not like this story has anything to do with our current predicament so… However, as I said before, the book has magic on it and that alone might make it useful for us. In fact, I can see something akin to a “string” that leaves the book and goes to god knows where. But, this “string” seems more like a broken line that goes in several directions although that might be because of the chaotic nature of this library, influencing the state of the line. What I mean with all of this is that the book is trying to lead us somewhere.
“Follow me, I think I have found something.”
“Ye-Yes but, why are you taking the book with you? Is it something related to the book?”
“Yes, I can see a small magic line that is connected to the book towards somewhere else.”
“Is that so?”
Ah, my explanations sure are gold! I mean, she does not sound confused at all! Way to go me! Good job! But how the hell am I supposed to explain something that only I can see? Not only that, I’m not so sure on my theory and that’s making it worse. I might be wrong or I’m correct as I have no clue but standing here pumping out guesses won’t prove whatever I’m right or wrong. Anyway, let’s get moving towards whatever this will take us…
At least I wanted to.
