(188)Chapter 3.4.5 – Miranda’s Little Adventure. (Part 5)

  Black Magic noises!

Ah, the reason why the Defect Wolf, the strongest one stood still. He was gathering magic energy so that he could unleash his disgusting spell towards the girl. A Shadow Ball, nothing that she can deal with but in the A rank realm, that spell can do tremendous amounts of damage and that of course, that includes towards this area. My Hero has reached that conclusion already, spells whose rank is at the minimum A- can and will inflict damage upon the environment and this simple fact is the reason for why the girl cannot end this charade at this precise moment, why she will have to one-by-one defeat all of these pesky beasts. While also doing her best to prevent too much damage to be done by the Shadows themselves. The Shadow Ball is roughly with a diameter of 50 centimetres, with a chaotic shape to it but, still intact enough to resemble a ball, allowing such a spell to have such a name. The area around the Defect Wolf suffers from the consequence of being near high quantities of magic or in other words, from the Shadow Ball itself a small shockwave is formed periodically, one that travels for roughly a meter or so. Once the spell is completed, ready to be shoot towards its target, without any hesitation at all the Shadow Wolf shot it towards the girl and since she’s a little occupied with the other Shadows, it’s easy to draw the conclusion that she will be hit. But as it was said before, reality is often misleading and only those who are far too weak will reach such illogical conclusions.

Yet again, another simple action of hers, one where she swung her scythe. She raised it to roughly what her arm physically allows her arm to do so and from there, once the Shadow Ball was close enough, she sliced the ball in half. One could expect for an explosion to happen but in reality, nothing of that sort happened. Then, what should one be expecting? The scythe she constructed, it’s not a prop that happens to be made of “real” materials, one that looks terrifying, one that indeed belongs to something that the reaper would use. Instead, it’s a real weapon that should be feared even by those that are at S rank and well above it even. It has magic on it, all throughout the entirety of it but, that should be expected, right? It’s a weapon that was constructed by using magic and therefore the fact that it has magic on it should be natural and more than expected. While that it’s correct, that does not mean you could stack additional magic on top of it. Something that she did in this precise moment or in this case, moments before she swung the scythe at the Shadow Ball. The type of magic she used, it allowed for the blade of the scythe to “disperse” the Shadow Ball and the magic present on it, rendering it useless as the spell didn’t had enough “defence” to withstand such force however, while the spell didn’t explode or caused much destruction, the force at which it was traveling was still felt in the form of a powerful shock wave.

However, what did she actually do?

Disperse? The word that the “lovely” protagonist of his likes to say when she’s constructing her Shirin Scissors but, in this case, it’s not the correct term. What she did was more terrifying, she extinguished the Shadow Ball, the main and only reason why she was able to accomplish what she just did but also why a few Black Magic particles were spread out throughout the space at which the blade of the scythe travelled through. It didn’t even gain a colour to it or anything of that sort, its natural state already is infused with this special magic. This magic however, should only be known to one human as after all, it was created by her and only her. Ah, but thanks to how Miranda was created, it should be expected that she could also use it. A family of spells or more so a type of magic that is within the Black Magic realm, but one that far surpasses it. It was meticulously researched by that human, carefully studied and then perfectly executed; however, thanks to her special condition, she did so in the span of a few years. Thanks to the properties of the magic itself, how it seems to extinguish anything that comes in contact with it as long as it’s weaker than it, she decided to name it as Extinction Magic. What Miranda did when she constructed the Scythe was to infuse it with Extinction but one that has a condition to it, showing an extreme degree of magic control as very few could ever dream to do it let alone actually do it. The Extinction present on it will depend on how strong the “strike” will be, meaning that, if she uses strength in the C rank realm then, that’s the level at which the Extinction present on it will act. Increase the strength to A rank and the same happens. What makes this such terrifying magic is that nothing can survive this phenomenon and the simple fact that it can stack magic on top of it, it makes a type of magic that should be forbidden, sealed by seven keys and then thrown into the abyss. What I mean is that, anyone that uses can infinitely power it up before usage, and it seems the spells that are part of it, all of them have no limit to how much magic they can have whatsoever. Ah, a family of spells that was created by a calamity in the form of a woman, one that because of it, she was sealed in a tower for eternity by the one of the Heros. She was destined to die in said tower as her magic energy was slowly being depleted. But even then, it was her choice to be sealed in such a tower. I shouldn’t go into a tangent as my Hero is still ignorant of such a person however, I will never forget what they called her at that time...

  The Princess of Calamity.

“Shatter and collapse – Shattering Mirror.”

  Crack noises!

Her voice mimics the previous one of her. Her magic energy shot upwards for less than a second but with it, as she used this spell, anything on a radius of 10 meters suffered the consequences of messing with her. Her magic control however, was even greater than before to the point that she excluded the area beneath her knees meaning that the ground where she stands didn’t suffer from the devastating but also terrifying consequences of the spell she just used. In that area, around thirty or so Defects were present, all of them are the fastest ones in the “army”. All of it happened in an instant, a moment ago they were running up towards her, their mouths wide open, salivating at the thought that such a delicious meal is right within the grasps of their chaotic hands but then, the very next instance, only a few short centimetres of their bodies are intact. Indeed, the distance between her knees and the ground is what didn’t suffer such fate. The rest of their bodies shattered into a few giant pieces, almost as if their bodies went from a magical one to one made of glass but then the very next moment, said pieces shatter yet again but this time, into hundreds if not thousands of pieces. None of them survived this mesmerizing display, a beautiful show where these Defects suffer a fate far too merciful. After all, none of them suffered a single ounce of pain. The Shadow Wolf also suffered this shattering and exactly another seventeen Shadows went through the same phenomenon. While it’s not a small number, it’s nothing compared to the number which the “army” still has or in other words, still above the five hundred number. This of course quickly leads her to believe that she will need to be a little more proactive as otherwise, if they all swarm her at once, she will be forced to use stronger spells that this one or maybe this one in a stronger variant as the efficiency seems to be quite high. She gets ready to dash towards them and with it-

  She’s now on the offensive.

  Slash! Magic noises!

She dashes towards one of the “corners” of the army. She’s not a fool at all, if something goes wrong, by being in one of the corners it will allow her to fall back as she has at the very least an empty direction to do so. One doubts that it will happen as the Defects are far too weak for such, however, while reality is deceptive, fate on the other hand, it’s quite cruel. I wonder why he does such a thing or if he has any control of his creation at all. The dash was a simple one but it allowed her to cover the distance faster than what they could react and once she was close enough to the front row, with a precise but simple side swing, she sliced through four Shadows that were in front of her, decimating them in the process. With the help of the Extinction magic, there is no need for her to be perfectly accurate as in a somewhat decent area around where she sliced through, it will be extinguished and that of course includes the core. There’s nothing that they can do about it and the massive opposite of her previous spell, the pain that they are feeling and will feel is beautifully high. From here, she leaps upwards and a little forward as she is able to sense an empty area a few meters in front of her. Once she landed there, before any of them could even notice her, with a quick spin, she sliced through any Shadow that was around her and with the help of the skill Multiple, none was able to survive. Another display of perfect usage of magic but also magic control. Since the Scythe has magic on it, she’s able to stack on top of it the skill Multiple, allowing her to duplicate (triplicate in this case) the swing of hers; however, if she didn’t control it, it would’ve been for naught. She aimed one of them higher than the main strike while the other one lower. The idea behind this is so that she can effectively eliminate any Shadow that was surrounding her. The reason for this is thanks to how different they are from each other; some are extremely tall and that means their core is higher than normal while a few are shorter and so on. By doing this she effectively has struck any core of these Shadows and of course, defeating them in the process. Seven of them are now gone but still far too many are left, her job is far from being done.

  The battle keeps on going.

She keeps on doing the same strategy or more so variants of such. There is no need for her to be using the same skill over and over, no, she’s quite diverse in that sense, showing off to all of those Defects just who they are messing with. However, while her swings are deadly, while her skills are perfect, while her spells are monstrously effective and while her magic is a terror to be witnessed, the speed at which she’s eliminating the Shadows is for the low side. Five whole minutes have gone by and she has defeated less than hundred Shadows in fact, the total rounds the eighty-seven. While it was enough to reduce their numbers below the five hundred realm, there still are far too many of them and of course, the Defect Lord is still alive, carefully inspecting how the girl fights, her skills, spells and even the weapon of her. Indeed, it’s a complete and utterly mystery to him after all, it’s using the same “magic” as what he’s made of and yet, somehow, it’s also completely different. He has no clue what it is, just how effective it is and how deadly it really is and maybe that might be the reason for why he’s standing still, watching everything unfold. He still has a massive army in his universe, even if he loses a large quantity of the Shadows present here it means nothing to him, as long as he either can survive or eliminate such a threat then, he has won. But, while he’s getting used to the girl fighting, she, on the other hand, has decided to switch strategies.

“As the one that has darkness by her side. As the one that has stared directly at the abyss.”

An incantation, one that will change drastically the course of this battle, forcing that foul beast to act. It was instinctually but the moment she started to spell out said incantation, the Shadows got even more vicious than before. They all run up towards her, hitting each other in the process while in some cases, severely at that. There isn’t an ounce of teamwork but thanks to the sheer number, that matters not as wherever the girls walk to, a Defect is there, ready to unleash its primal desires unto her. Although, it will difficult her life by a little bit. She’s elegantly dodging everything single one of them, all of their swings, stomps, tail swipes, well, even spells and in all of these scenarios, they always end up hitting their “fellow” Defects and in some rare instances, even defeating them. However, she’s not only dodging them as when the opportunity appears, she also defeats them with a simple swing of her Scythe.

“The one that was shunned by the human realm. The one that is hated by the shadow realm.”

But there are far too many of them.

One of them takes a swing at her in such a way that she had to block it as otherwise she would be hit. This one, it’s a Shadow Bear. Akin to a giant bear but with chaotic form to it and of course, with a body made of purely magic. His mouth is several times bigger than the one of a grizzly bear, his claws follow the same principle and of course the body is no different at all. His massive size allowed him to be able to achieve such an atrocity as it has long reach to be able to do so, or it would have been one in the case the girl was a fragile one with no strength to her slender arms. But that was not the end of it. After the first strike was blocked, he kept on going with his barbaric barrage of attacks, ones that have so much force behind them that it crumbles the ground underneath her feet. Yes, the clash between them is that strong and each time she has an opening to strike, a measly Shadow gets on her way, begging at her for her to show him how the reaper does its job. But this is not the worst of it, with both of his hands grasping each other he tries to smash her into a pulp however, she’s no beginner at all as with this, it gave her an opportunity to back off.

Indeed, finishing her incantation is the better course of action than defeating this Shadow.

“The one that went against fate and survived. The one that has bent the laws of reality itself to her needs and desires.”

Nothing has changed from before, far too many Shadows are still present. One of them takes a strike at her but she dodges it…. Another one does the same thing… Yet another one but in this case, magic was used.

  Again…

  And again…

It seems there is no end to this barbaric barrage of attacks…

That is, until she finished the incantation.

“The one that did so with her new found magic. One that was created by I and then perfected by I. I am Serena, The Witch of Extinction and hereby will show to the very world why I have such title.

  Scythe of Extinction.”
