Chapter 21: Greedy Thief

A single scream seemed to alert the whole store and even those still half-awake came to see what’s going on.

Amongst them, naturally the four-eyes. “Minho, what’s going on here?”

Lackey B pointed at Yu Zhiye and can’t wait to accuse, “Boss! I went to take a morning leak and saw this thief taking our supplies!”

“Oh?” Kwan Minhwoo furtively glanced around at the scarcely-restocked shelves and already figured out what was going on.

Kwan Minhwoo then gave Yu Zhiye a pointed look. “Mr. Steve, it’s not good if you act so selfishly like this.”

That accusation didn’t even change Yu Zhiye’s face one bit.

“If you call claiming the little share that’s supposed to be mine selfish, then what do we call you who hogged excess supplies that should’ve be shared with everyone?”

Kwan Minhwoo adjusted his glasses calmly and showed not a hint of shame. “Mr. Steve. What are you trying to say? Please don’t misunderstand. Out of kindness, I’m just overseeing the—”

“Don’t give me your self-righteous nonsense! Nobody here is stupid.”

Yu Zhiye took stock of the crowd gathering behind the man but still faced them with confidence thrown over his shoulder like a cape.

“Mr. Kwan, I don’t care what you’re trying to achieve, but I’m a realistic man.”

“As long as I get what I deserve, then everything’s easy to talk about. But what I hate the most are hypocrites who take their share but refuse to give others theirs.”

Kwan Minhwoo frowned a bit but quickly recovered a smile. “My friend Steve, who said I wouldn’t give others their share?”

Yu Zhiye fired back. “How come I don’t remember you handing out my share yesterday?”

Lackey B jumped out. “That’s cause you already took your share!”

“Oh? That’s a bold claim you got there.”

Yu Zhiye sneered and rapidly fired questions at the lackey.

“Do you have evidence? How did you know I did? More importantly, what’s stopping you from doing the same? I say the one who screams the loudest is the guiltiest!”

  “You—!”

Kwan Minhwoo hurriedly held his dog back. “Now, now, there’s no need to get so worked up.”

  “Boss!”

  “Minho.”

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

Getting a warning look from his boss, Lackey B scoffed and obediently stepped back.

Four-eyes then took the stage again, but this time, trying to pressure his opponent from another angle.

“Mr. Steve, yesterday, we all came to an agreement to centralize the management of supplies. If you act so selfishly like this, I’m afraid everybody else here will be unhappy.”

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what this four-eyes was doing.

Basically: trying to set him up against the rest of the survivors!

But does this four-eyes really think that’ll work?

“Who said we all agreed? If we did not receive a share from you, what makes you think we should abide by your rules?”

Yu Zhiye scanned the gathered crowd and smirked a bit. “Besides, if we don’t follow your little rules, we can take as much as we want.”

Immediately, Lackey B shrieked like he got injected by chicken blood. “How could you say that! That’s unfair for the rest of us!”

“Hey, nothing is stopping you or the rest of us from hiding a bag or two, am I right?”

Yu Zhiye smiled like a devil and glanced at the pot-bellied uncle.

The clever Kim Sungho grinned back. Partners-in-crime knew when not to jump out.

So, this entire time, he’s been stopping the Baldie Tae from taking sides.

Not far from them, Mob Characters A and B watched on with gutso, but similarly showed no intentions of interfering.

Why help when there’s no benefits?

Besides, circumstances has changed drastically now.

The supplies can actually respawn everyday! Possibly infinitely!

Such a big pie… how can they not want a bigger split?

A redistribution of benefits was in order! And they certainly won’t support the weakest party.

Who is the weakest party? Isn’t that obvious?

Seeing nobody take his side, the face of Kwan Minhwoo was gloomy, but since his team has become the smallest, number-wise, he can only compromise!

“Mr. Steve, how about we each take a step back? As long as you return what you took, I’ll be happy to give you your fair share today.”

Yu Zhiye rolled his eyes and casually rapped on the stack of ramen bowls in hand.

“This is the share I missed yesterday. Whether I get my share later from you all will determine what happens tomorrow.”

After saying that, he didn’t bother with this bunch any longer and turned to stride away.

Nobody called out to stop him. After all, there was a bigger pie left behind. They’ll be busy real soon.

Another big argument must be on the horizon, but that’s got nothing to do with him.

Returning to the back hall, Yu Zhiye casually waved the uncle over. “Jack! The supplies respawned.”

“Yeah?” Jack smiled. “Bwahaha! That’s good news, ain’t it?”

“I’ll take over for you here. Go grab some before the rest hoards them all.”

“Aight. Thanks Steve. I’ll make it quick.”

Jack left and Yu Zhiye took over his post, casually leaning on the wall and inspecting what he shamelessly walked away with.

A bag of yummy Sindomie and three noodle bowls. The plastic bowls can even be re-used for other purposes! This was a big win!

An even bigger win was that he didn’t have to share because Jack soon returned carrying another batch.

“Doesn’t look like the little missy will wake up soon, so I got a share for her, too.”

If others said this, Yu Zhiye might think they wanted to selfishly hoard more, but this uncle… well, there’s no need to get fixated on some things.

  Not all humans are bad.

“Great to know.” Yu Zhiye smiled, knocked on his own load, then nodded towards the men’s restroom. “I’ll go hide these in there first. Don’t want to be carrying them everywhere.”

Jack looked at him with a funny look. “Steve, your taste is really… aight, I won’t comment. Go ahead. If ya can sleep there, ya can do anything else there, I suppose.”

“Haha.” Yu Zhiye left the guard duty uncle behind.

Into the stall, back to the hideout, then over to the shack…

Drop off the instant ramen. All the water bottles similarly got set aside. Even the cobblestone and fishing rod got cleared out.

“That freed up 7 slots of inventory space. Now… let’s see if I can fill them back up!”

Greed is insatiable. But it’s always smart to hoard more while he can, right?
