Chapter 18: The Risky Gamble! For Safety!

The characteristics of the death angel flashed through Yu Zhiye’s mind. Some matched. Some didn’t.

No copyright issues here, but that’s actually bad news!

If this death angel actually had other strange abilities aside from the known listener powers, then… the first to move will take the biggest risk!

But… they can’t stand around until morning, right?

That begs a different question: when will morning actually arrive? 8 hours? 12 hours?

Who can hold on for that long?! Even if somebody can, can the others do the same?

And once somebody gets desperate… what will they do?

  Another bad news?

Note: for safety reasons, their party of three stood closest to the door. That just so happens to be... in the way of the rest!

Once chaos ensues, what will happen to them – the road blockers? Will the human heart ever play nice?

Rather than sit and wait for the unpredictable future, take the initiative, take the gamble!

Anyways, the door is right behind him! Worth the risk!

Steeling his heart, Yu Zhiye flipped his palm and took out a stone. He then glanced over to Jack and signaled right.

The man got the hint and a stone appeared in his hand as well. Three fingers got held up.

  3… 2… 1!

Stones fired out at the last spot where the monster was seen!

Puff! The stones impacted the sand and clacked together! The clear sound was like a death toll in the silence!

It didn’t even take a second before a sharp claw burst out from the sand and pierced right through the stones with so much force that they exploded like grenades!

In almost perfect sync, both men moved to grab the dazed Miss Highschooler – one on the left, one on the right!

  Run!

In less than a few steps, the door got shoved open and the three scrambled in!

Yu Zhiye took point, the baggage in the center, and finally Jack tailed them like a soldier determined to sacrifice for his country…

The sound of the door was like a death knell and a death angel flew over from god knows where!

In a flash, the predator closed in on its prey! But just when the claw was about to skewer its target—WHAM!

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

The grotesque creature got stopped right outside the store like it crashed into some invisible barrier!

Jack did a half-roll to break his fall and the trio quickly scrambled away from the door as far as possible.

It wasn’t until the door squealed shut that the three let out a sigh of relief.

“Hoo ah. It’s great to be alive.”

Jack chuckled then saw a hand reached out to help. He grinned and took the offer.

Back on two feet, Jack nodded to Yu Zhiye then looked towards the door. “Hoo-ah. Seems like they can’t get in.”

  Yu Zhiye observed the same.

He can see the monster screeching at them from outside, but heard nothing.

It was like a silent film, with the store here separated from the world outside.

“Fuuu~ Almost scared this Miss to death.”

Xiao Shuling patted her little chest, but contrary to what she said, she didn’t look scared at all.

If anything, she looked more curious and excited, even skipping forward to inspect the monster through the glass.

“Hum? So ugly.” She gave the door a poke. “But with this there, how will the others get in through here?”

Jack shrugged. “Just wait for it to crawl back into the sand I suppose. As for whether they’ll make it…”

A curious baby got moved back.

Jack then used a stone to prop open the door. “This is all we can do. Wish them all the best.”

Yu Zhiye agreed. Nothing else they can do to help. They already took the biggest risk and showed them a way out.

As for whether they were brave enough and smart enough to do it? That’s up to them.

Anyways, there’s two doors to this place. Even if one is blocked, it wasn’t a dead end.

Besides, if a certain somebody used his special ability, it might even be possible for a monster hunt to happen.

Worst case? Just stay out all night. Easy.

“Comon. Don’t stay here. Nothing good to watch here. Especially you, little missy. Seeing too much blood and gore will make you stop growing.”

Xiao Shuling pouted. “Uncle, I’m not a three-year-old child.”

  “Yeah, yeah. Off you go.”

The pouting curious baby got steered away by the uncle and Yu Zhiye tagged along.

“So, what are your plans for tonight? Steve?”

  “What else? Sleep, of course.”

“Umu. Umu. Sleep is very important!”

Jack rolled his eyes. “Sheesh. I know that much. What I’m asking is how, when, and where?”

The naive girl tilted her head, confused. “Eih? Isn’t sleep just sleep?”

Jack ignored the innocent girl and looked towards Yu Zhiye. “I don’t want to wake up tied to a chair or something. Any plans?”

Yu Zhiye shrugged. “I plan to sleep in the stalls. Quite safe if you lock it.”

“Oh~!” Xiao Shuling’s eyes lit up and she palm-fisted. “How come this Miss didn’t think of that? Eih! Uncle, big brother, I’ll go check out the lady’s room!”

The kid was out of the way, and the adults assigned serious business.

“Steve, how bout we split the night watch? You want first half or second?”

“Any way to judge the time?”

“My biological clock is quite accurate most of the time.”

“Hmm. I’m a night owl. I’ll take first.”

  “Yeah? That’s it then.”

  “Need me to wake you?”

  “Don’t worry. I’m not a deep sleeper…”

That settles matters. This was the point of the party.

Though this sort of safety line was unnecessary since he possesses a secret hideout, it was still a good smokescreen to keep suspicions low.

After all, will anyone really sleep without a care in the world in a survival game like this?

Nope. Even more so since there were other aggressive players in the mix…

“Madaraka! Who said that nonsense about a chicken jockey? I’ll kick your ass to the moon!”

“What do you know?! You can’t blame others for kindly supplying you with knowledge! Instead we should ask why others are so unkind to block the door and leave us out there to die!”

“Yeah! Mr. Kwan is right! Baewoo died so tragically!”

Yu Zhiye looked at the rag-tag group who just made it back and frowned.

They said it like it was all their fault. Honestly, shouldn’t have left the door open for them!

Even Jack didn’t have a good face.

“You lot—You should be glad we bet our lives to help you find a way to get back in! We can be said to be your saviors!”

“If you’re gonna be ungrateful, then go stay outside for the night! See if anybody will thank you!”

“Let’s go Steve. No need to waste saliva on them. Even looking at this blame-shifting bunch is an eyesore.”

After berating them, Jack stormed off, leaving behind a speechless bunch with ugly faces.
