Chapter 43 - Duel

Shammus had been walking for a few kilometres, until he finally found his uncle’s estate. The letter Sir Grimm had sent him as odd, and he was told to bring his weapons, which isn’t a bow. Not the best for hunting, but Shammus walked towards his brown eyed uncle.

The laughter was loud, booming across the forest, “I wasn’t expecting for ya to actually show up Nephew Shammus!” His bow was slung over his chest, and he was staring right at Shammus, and right through him too.

“Yeah, now you were talking about a sparring match?” Shammus simply draws Agony and Justice at the same time his uncle drew back the Freedom Bow of Starlight. The bow string seemed like a constellation and the arrow atop a small star.

“Why of course my great nephew! Let’s have a good spar!”

Shammus had to move first, dodging the streak of orange firing off from the weapon, the environment heating up ever so slightly. Shammus having dodged his uncle’s bow attack rushed in for battle, but Justice was blocked by his uncle’s arrowtip.

“Now this is a technique I bet you’ll see nowhere else!” His uncle kicked Shammus across the field, and Shammus spit out a tooth before rolling away from the second arrow, this one causing a streak of a beautiful pink.

“Ruler, you talk far too much Buckeye.”

“Ha! And you say that while losing?” Three arrows released all at once, all curving in a different way. Shammus felt himself cursing at the total nonsense of the arrows moving in midair, casting different shades he only ever sees in the sky.

The arrows didn’t collide though as he parried them away with Justice and Agony, and dodged the third. Agony tainted the sky behind the arrow, and Shammus gave Buckeye Grimm a light smirk.

  43 - Duel

Shammus and Pallad both stared at the pink haired elf, and they’re four eyes. They were an odd shape, the iris’s, being multiple circles going deeper into the eye, and the smile was sharp. A predator looking at two prey.

“Well then, let’s begin!” The pink haired foe shouts out as they clap their hands together, and their arms coat in mana. Shammus and Pallad both match it, but the pink haired foe rushes forward, and hits Pallad’s arm.

Pallad’s arm is suddenly covered in small cuts, and he’s pushed back. “Ah, so you guys are somewhat strong.” The pink haired foe simply fully stands after the punch, “Well then, the name’s Furista. What’s yours’ fellow God Favored?”

Furista makes an awful pose, as they flex and tear off their shirt. Shammus simply steps forward in front of Pallad, as he casts his own Common Heal skill. “I’m Shammus.” Shammus simply states, getting into a guard with Justice and Agony in his hands.

Pallad gets into a guard, drawing his own greatsword. “And I’m Pallad.” Pallad points the sword over Shammus’s shoulder, and Furista simply laughs. “Yes, this will be good! Now let’s end the chatter!”

The lower two eyes affix onto Pallad as Furista rushes towards Shammus. The palm strike would’ve been deadly had Shammus not dodged to the side, as the area behind him is covered in slashes, cuts that killed a few hundred people in the crowd.

The crowd quickly disperses as Shammus makes a slash downwards with Agony, it’s blocked by Furista as a greatsword slash to the back knocks Furista down. Furista moves quickly though, catching himself on the ground and lunging slashes out to keep himself on his feet.

Furista’s fist digs into Pallad’s block, as a flash of blue and purple spews out behind Pallad in the direction of the strike, as the usual light scratches go deep into Pallad’s flesh. He lets out a groan of pain as he’s forced to slide back.

Shammus slashes downwards with both Justice and Agony, but Furista turns around just in time to get them stuck in his left arm, and lands a punch right to Shammus’s gut. The pain flares out as slashes appear in the time and he goes flying a few meters into the crowd.

The blood spilling out of the wound is warm, but it’s clear Pallad is struggling to stand against the tide of the battle. So Shammus rushes forward once again. He doesn’t have Agony, but Justice can be called back, which seems to surprise Furista for a moment.

That was all Shammus needed to land a brutal kick infused with mana. The secondary strike, dealing the same damage, and then the splash of blue and purple following the trajectory of the attack as well.

Shammus was filled with extra information the system had to be feeding him. But it only increased his battle capability. His possibilities were filled in while Furista was stunned. Pallad acted on this opening as well, landing a critical strike of his own as a splash of blue and purple spewed out from Furista’s chest.

Shammus felt faster after his crit, and he was going to rely on that a little to dodge the next attack Furista uses. And it works, a little bit, as Furista shouts out launching a slash across the entire field.

Another hundred dead was Shammus’s estimate, but he couldn’t get distracted by that. Not against this foe, he was already at 30% Health remaining, the damage from the attacks were stacking up fast for him.

Pallad took note of this, and tackled Furista down, all four of his eyes snapping back to Pallad. Furista responds to the tackle by slamming his fists down into Pallad’s back, leaving deep cuts across his spine.

Another groan of pain left Shammus rushing back into action, Pallad carrying Furista into the crowd was a negative, but it wasn’t his nation’s people. Shammus leaps over Pallad, and stabs into Furista’s head, knocking him unconscious as Justice flared bright.

Agony got unstuck from Furista’s arm, as Shammus caught it, and Pallad crashed Furista into a building. Furista rushes outside the building quickly cutting it besides. Shammus could’ve sworn Furista was… smaller before.

And he was proven right as Furista rushes past Pallad and tries to clip him with an arm the size of Shammus’s torso. Shammus did duck down, avoiding it but even the kick he landed was met with the feeling of him at Level 2 kicking a brick wall.

It hurt Shammus more than it hurt the wall. Pallad rushed in to help, slamming his variant of Justice down into Furista’s head, but it seems to hardly do a thing. Shammus slashes at Furista’s eyes with Agony, but despite it cutting, he looked at Shammus with the lower set.

There was nothing else to do, so he slipped under Furista and rejoined Pallad. Furista stares at the two, and quickly moves, almost too fast for Shammus to see as the two were suddenly launched through the city.

They landed in another town square far off from the original fight, hundreds of buildings countably destroyed. “I’ll remember you two as long as I live…” Furista begins talking, but then Shammus notices something else. He was healing the injury he just received.

“But you two really aren’t anything too special.” Furista pushes forward again, and crushes Shammus’s ribs beneath his foot. Shammus coughed blood, before Furista continued. “Not for me.”

Pallad tried to strike Furista again, but Shammus looked over through his blinking vision, and he saw him impaled onto a wall. Shammus quickly looks at Furista, ignoring the pain spurring throughout his chest.

He tries to slash, but then he feels his arm break. And he lets out a scream of pain. The pain is the worst he’d ever felt, and his vision almost fades again. It’s blinking in and out, and he’s unsure how long he’s out every time.

“P-please…” He looks over at Pallad again. And despite Shammus’s broken arm, his broken ribs, his terrible state while bleeding out. Furista seems bored, as he simply smiles.

“Please what?” A laugh rings out, as the sound of a lyre plays out…
