Getting the band back together!

Bariton took a deep breath, as the little system message finally popped up.

  [LEVEL UP!]

  [Your level is now 100!]

  [You gained…]

Bariton closes his eyes as the system messages all close around him, along with the dungeon collapsing. This dungeon was a simple one of brick and stone, but it was a great challenge for someone with his stats.

“Status Window.” He mutters under his breath, wondering if his friends already moved on to the next floor.

  [Bariton]

  [LEVEL: 100]

  [STATS:

  POWER: 400

  AGILITY: 600

  CONSTITUTION: 400

  MAGIC: 350]

He can’t help but laugh. He kept the exact same distribution as when he was with his party. Even his skills are leveled the same. He really does miss those fools, but he moves on towards the capital, there is no way they are still there, after all.

But hell, he has a hope in his heart, no matter how small it may be.

Pallad finally opens his eyes from beneath the river to a system message, one familiar yet distant.

  [LEVEL UP!]

  [Your level is now 100!]

  [You gained…]

He lets out a chuckle as he reads the benefits from it, knowing it was finally time to move along. But first, he supposed he’d look at his stats one more time before heading to the capital.

“Status Window,” he says with conviction, as he raises his flail way above his head.

  [Pallad]

  [Level: 100]

  [STATS:

  POWER: 600

  AGILITY: 400

  CONSTITUTION: 550

  MAGIC: 200]

Pallad grins at his improvements, and is excited to meet up with his party once more. He walks onto the road, and makes his way to the capital. His joy at being done with that boring training radiates throughout his soul, and beats through his very body.

But that’s besides the point to Sornid, who’s also just now clearing away a dungeon. The final monster perishes to his new [Parry] skill, not necessarily the best defense skill, but the best mixed skill he wields.

Of course, the little notification pops up for him as well,

  [LEVEL UP!]

  [Your level is now-]

“Status Window.” He waves it away before even reading all of it.

  [Sornid]

  [Level: 100]

  [STATS:

  POWER: 300

  AGILITY: 300

  CONSTITUTION: 300

  MAGIC: 850]

His sly grin expands at this, as he too begins his journey straight to the capital. It’s pointless to diddle daddle elsewhere for any longer. And he knows this, closing his grimoire and exiting the dungeon.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Well then, I cannot wait to see you once more, Pallad, Clara, Judine, and better yet, if I catch Bariton.”

Of course, speaking of Clara, she’s finished up a dungeon as well, exterminated the final of the dark forces, to see the exact same notification. She’s just much, much faster than the others at closing it.

“Status Window please.” She makes a sigh out of relief. If she isn’t wrong her level should be,

  [Clara]

  [Level: 100]

  [STATS:

  POWER: 300

  AGILITY: 300

  CONSTITUTION: 400

  MAGIC: 750]

She grins lightly, as she places a light prayer before heading out of the dark dungeon. Her light affinity hadn’t changed at all, but she was now solo clearing vampire tombs, which was a clear growth from not even being of any help at that other one.

Now all she had to do was get to the Capital.

Judine smacked shut the law book, as she simply put it back on the bookcase. She sighed as she now knew plenty about the laws of this kingdom, and she went outside to the courtyard of the capital lawhouse.

She saw an unexpected notification as she did, but she notices it’s contents. An achievement, which she promptly ignores, then her level up notice.

“Tsk. Bout time. Show me my Status Window, something to look at while I await my other friends.”

  [Judine]

  [Level: 100]

  [STATS:

  POWER: 400

  AGILITY: 400

  CONSTITUTION: 400

  MAGIC: 550]

She breathes a sigh of relief as she walks towards the entrance of the capital. She’s going to have to get many people pardoned for illegal entry, even if they got legendary in the time she hasn’t seen them.

She would know, she spent the first month away in jail.

Bariton got into the line, having a hood over his great blonde hair, having stuffed his scuffed hat away into his inventory. It was long, with great walls standing well above him. He could probably jump up.

The line shifted forward ever so slightly, slowly yet surely. Just like foot traffic when the king’s in the markets, Bariton sighs, once more thinking of his party. It’s not like he’ll see them here. The line shifts forward once more, as guards are standing at the ready.

He shrugs as he tries to walk past them, but he stands confused now that he’s in cuffs.

“You’re coming with me sir. Warden’s orders.”

  “W-wha?”

“You are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent if you so please.”

  “Ha, me? Silent?”

“Yes, you. Everything you say can and will be used against you.”

“What now?” Bariton’s words were fast now, no longer teasing in nature as he’s dragged into the city in a not so pleasant way.

Pallad had also gotten into line, surprised to not have been greeted by fans. But then again, after spending months and maybe even a year or two in a monastery, he wouldn’t know what everyone is talking about these days.

He may no longer be famous, he may no longer be recognizable by his friends, but that’s why he has his signature flail-

“Sorry big guy, you’re going to be coming with us.” The city guard cuts through Pallad’s inner speech like butter.

“What do you mean?” Pallad begins to self question himself, “Did I do something wrong sir?”

“Yes, you tried to sneak past, not just without any form of ID, but even with a Lethal Weapon.”

“If you could kindly put your weapon inside your [Inventory] for safekeeping before we put you into these handcuffs.”

“Y-yes sir?” He makes a confused sound as he puts it into his Inventory. He’s swiftly put in handcuffs, and is dragged into the city without much other fuss. If it gets him into the city, what’s a few weeks more meditation?

Clara had swiftly moved into line. Clearly a busy time to be entering and exiting the city. She reaches for her ID in her inventory before she even reaches the front gates.

“Really? Clara? You think we really believe you are her?”

Of course, nothing could go well for our dear heroes, and she got held up in the line. She nods her head, “Of course I think you can believe the truth. Goodness, what else could you possibly want me to-”

And the click of handcuffs. “You are coming with us ma’am.”

“What?” The sheer offense in Clara’s voice should say it all, but it doesn’t matter to the guard dragging her away.

“No, no! This can’t be! I am the great-”

“Oh, shut up already, you can make these arguments to the Warden.”

Sornid’s arrest was far more peaceful, having gone in line, and ensuring he had looked the part of the noble wizard he was. He wouldn’t take the disrespect, but having heard the phrase “warden’s orders” calmed him down greatly.

You’d have thought he was the one that went through the monastery training, but that was indeed Pallad and Clara, with him doing personal training like Bariton. Who’s to say, maybe two great minds think alike, but it’s more likely the story of two buffoons using that phrase like an instant win card.

But of course, the fighting resumes as he sees three cell mates, one in a cloak, another in holy attire, and the final one in a monk’s uniform.

“No… No no no, this can’t be real!” Sornid mutters under his breath as he sits besides the one in the cloak.

“Sornid? Got you too, hm?” Bariton gives a little tease. Sornid once again makes a small mutter under his breath. He had hoped to be first.

“Well then, looks like you all arrived in a timely manner,” Judine breaks Pallad’s meditation and Clara’s prayer with a single phrase.

“Ah, glad to see you too Judine~” Bariton chimes in, with other greetings from the party, although far less sarcastic.

“Hardy har har,” Judine gives a sarcastic laugh back, but continues on, “I pardoned you lot. Come with me.”

Judine stands, unlocking the door for her friends.
