Bennett wakes up and gets off the bed, groaning and stretching. He immediately winces in pain as he aggravates his wound.
“Ugh, God, that hurts. I better take care of it.”
He gets dressed and takes his bag with him, heading to the nurse’s office to redress his wound and get a healing pill that will speed up his recovery.
“Glad there’s an actual nurse’s office nearby. If I had to walk to the one near the classrooms, I’d have cursed myself.”
He then heads to the cafeteria for breakfast, eating more than usual since the last few days, he only had food pills to sustain him.
“Ahh~ Finally, something I can taste and not some tasteless pill.”
Bennett sighs, relaxing for a bit before heading to the mission building.
Once he arrives, he takes the mission paper he has on him and hands it over to the receptionist, along with some sealed materials as proof.
“Hello, sir, and thank you. I’ll mark this quest as completed. Not bad, you had a day left.”
“Thanks, and is this enough proof?”
“Of course. I can tell it’s carving is quite amateurish, and according to the scanner, it’s been preserved for two days, meaning it’s the real deal.”
“Thanks. I’ll go for equipment instead of credits.”
“Is that so? Hmm, what kind of equipment are you looking for, sir?”
“I’m looking for weighted clothing, heavier than these ones.”
Bennett takes out the weighted clothing he was gifted and shows the receptionist.
“Ah, I see. Well, we have heavier clothing as you need, but you’ll be left with 200 credits.”
Bennett flinches at the price. It’s more than half his credit reward.
“That’s so expensive!?”
“Haha, that’s a normal reaction, sir. It’s because there aren’t many beasts whose materials can be used to make weighted clothing. Most people settle for the most basic one, which is the one you have.”
“Ugh, I understand. Well, is it possible to get light armor with the remaining part of the reward?”
“Of course, sir. Do you have any armor as a reference to show so we can give a better version?”
“Ah, no, I don’t have armor. This will be my very first purchase.”
Bennett says as he puts his old weighted clothes in his bag.
“I see. Then I’ll see what I can find, sir. Please wait here.”
While Bennett is waiting, a few people enter the mission building, followed by an instructor. But their arrogant bearing and the way they look around make it obvious they’re from another school.
“Heh, this is such a shabby place, and the quests why are there so few? Haha, bet they can’t afford to do quests. What can you expect? This school sucks, haha.”
After Asshole number 1 spoke, number 2 and 3 agreed with him. As for the instructor, he looks annoyed at these arrogant idiots.
One of them pointed at Bennett and opened their mouth.
“You, get out of the way! We’re students from the prestigious academy named the GrandUprising!”
“I’ve never heard of that academy, and why should I move for a bunch of idiots?”
The instructor snickered but acted serious.
“Apprentice Bennett, please step aside. They’re just here to tour the place. They will leave soon.”
“You heard him, weakling. Get out of my way.”
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
“Whatever,” Bennett said as he stepped aside and patted his shoulder, slapping on a Stamina rune and setting it on a timer. No one could see it, as Bennett used invisible ink for the rune.
“Oi, don’t touch me, you little shit!” The guy pushed Bennett away.
Soon, the group of idiots and the professor left from Bennett’s perspective, but then the Stamina rune activated. He politely greeted a very old woman, making a tent appear on his pants.
The old woman gasped and smacked him, shouting, “Pervert!” before leaving.
Everyone around turned and looked, seeing the asshole, who had been touring the place, face down, ass up on the ground with a visible tent.
This caused a large amount of snickering as the students whispered to each other, saying, “Deserved.”
Bennett soon ignored it after snickering from his prank and went back to his original spot.
The receptionist returned.
“Sir, here is your light armor. I found this as it adjusts its size based on your size.”
“Oh, thank you. Looks useful.”
“Thank you, but I can only take out a chestplate-type light armor since you’re very limited. And since it’s one of the more important spots to protect.”
“It’s made out of a special mix of Rank 2 and 3 beast materials, making it have a soft interior. The exterior is quite tough and sturdy, but it’s also flexible.”
“Sounds perfect for me.”
“Of course, but it will only protect your back and chest. Your stomach will still be exposed to danger.”
“I understand.”
“Now, thank you, sir. Please come again when you pick or finish a quest.”
She gave a small bow and handed the weighted clothing and chest plate.
“Thank you again, miss.”
Bennett took the weighted clothing, which was significantly heavier than his old one at least by 3x, which was perfect and he put on the light armor piece and soon left.
The receptionist turned to the instructor who picks the items to be given when requested.
“Sir, are you sure to give him those equipment?”
“Of course. It does go over his 500 credit budget, but I’ll pay for the other 200 credits that it went over.”
“You always do this, sir, whenever you think the student has potential.”
She shakes her head before returning to her post.
Bennett returned to his room and changed into the weighted clothing, then put on normal clothing on top and then left the room slower than usual as he gets used to the extra weight.
He went to the blacksmith shop for the first time since he joined the academy with the materials he carved.
The guy tending to it greeted him.
“Hello, young lad. Are you here to buy equipment, request some specialized gear, or enhance your equipment?”
“Hello, sir. I would like to sell these materials, and I have a question.”
Bennett shows the webs he collected, the legs, and the fangs.
“I see. I can tell they’re cut by an amateur. And what question do you have, lad?”
“Well, I have this quarterstaff, and I was wondering if enhancing my quarterstaff is better or just requesting a new one.”
Bennett shows all 3 of his quarterstaffs.
“Considering the quality of your quarterstaff, enhancing them is more beneficial for you. I would have to melt them down along with 3 of the beast legs you brought and enhance each quarterstaff separately.”
“Would you like to keep the minimizing function?”
“Yes, I do. And why would enhancing be better, sir?”
“Good question. It’s because your quarterstaffs are made using normal material, and there’s no beast material mixed into it.”
“So its lifespan in a battle against a beast is lower than usual.”
“By enhancing it, we will increase the quality and durability by a large amount since it’s a Rank 2 beast material. And since this is their first enhancement, it gives them an advantage over most weapons by being refined and enhanced by a beast with 1 rank higher.”
“Oh, I see, sir. What do you want for the enhancements?”
“Well, young lad, considering it’s enhancement and information, I will take the rest of the materials you brought me. And next time you come, you’ll have an additional 20% discount for the first item you purchase with credits.”
“What do you think, lad?”
“I’ll take it. Thank you, sir.”
“Haha, of course. Come back tomorrow, and your order should be done.”
Bennett nodded and left.
“Bye, sir. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Finally, Bennett headed off to an alchemist shop, or more known as a pill shop.
“Hello, sir. I would like to sell some material.”
“Is that so, kid? Show it to me. I don’t got much time for you.”
“Ehehe, um, this…”
Bennett took out the venom bottles and showed them.
The alchemist looked at them closely, analyzing it.
“Rank 2 venom, extracted quite recently, amateurish also as there’s less venom than normal.”
“That’s 15 credits per bottle. You have 3 bottles, that’s 45 credits total, kid.”
“Ah, wait, there’s also this…”
Bennett took out the pinwheel-looking herb container.
“W-what? Kid, do you have any idea what this is?”
The guy said, shocked and excited.
“Um, no, I found it and it was protected, so I had to find a way to grab it.”
“Why are you excited, sir?”
“Haha, you’re a lucky kid.” His attitude changed from an arrogant alchemist to a less arrogant posture. “Well, this herb is called Dragon Trap. It can trap up to Rank 4 beasts. Can’t believe a kid like you got it.”
“Oh, what is Dragon Trap used for?”
“It’s used to make a Mana Enhancement Pill. It would permanently increase your mana limit by a small amount, and it’s the main ingredient.”
“What, that good??”
“Of course, kid. Even if we can train to increase our mana, a pill with good purity, with that herb, is equivalent to 6 months of training.”
“Oh, wow, how much can I get for it then?”
“Well, kid, this costs 5000 credits. I have an offer: instead of paying you 5000 credits, I’ll pay you with 1000 credits, a 30% discount for the first 6 bottles of pills you buy yes, bottles, not singular pills.”
“And lastly, I’ll give you a Nutrient, Satiety, Mana Restoration, and a Health pill bottle with 30 pills each.”
Bennett was shocked.
“Holly hell, that’s such a deal, it’s that valuable??”
“Haha, of course, kid. Anyone would want to get their hands on this. Despite it being a tier-one pill, it’s usable for Apprentice and Adept level, so anyone at that level would do everything they can to buy this pill.”
“Damn, meaning there’s herbs for a higher-tier pill?”
“Of course, kid. If it was a Dragon Awakening pill, it would be for Advanced and Experienced ranked level.”
“Oh, God, damn, no wonder you’re so excited.”
“Haha, anyways, kid, do you accept the deal?”
“Can you put in a herb encyclopedia with it?”
“DEAL!”
“Eh, really? Doesn’t those usually cost 500 credits?”
“Yes, it does, kid, but the heart you brought more than pays for it. Let me arrange everything.”
He left and soon brought a blue card with a 30% discount and 6 bottles remaining on it, then gave Bennett an encyclopedia book. The bottle of pills’ purity was between 80% and 90%, making them above average, and also paid the remaining 1000 credits.
“Pleasure doing business with you, kid.”
Back to you, sir, they shook hands, and Bennett left with the new stuff he got.
The mana and health pills are called Absorption and Return, which are tier-2 pills.
“This is such a good day. I’ve got a good amount of pills, new weighted clothing, and even a new armor piece along with other things.”
After Bennett left, the alchemist immediately set his shop to close and went to prepare the other herbs and materials to make the pill.
“Finally, I can make a tier 1 Mana Enhancment pill! As long as I can sell this pill, I’ll be rich 20,000 credits normally, and if I sell it at an auction, it should jump up almost double the price. Hehe.”
Back to Bennett. He went to his dorm room and started putting the new stuff he got in their places and made sure to always wear his weighted clothing.
He went to the school computer and checked if he could rent a special training room, one that has thicker mana and increased mental pressure.
“Hm, this should be perfect. This way, I can train my mental resistance and help increase my mana capacity. After that hunting, I was starting to panic, which could’ve gotten me killed if I didn’t forcefully calm my mind.”
“It’s best I increase my resistance for the future.”
He pays to rent a room created for rank 5 Apprentices, but he can rent it since it’s a safe location and he believes it’s the right level to train himself in.
The start date is in 2 days, since the next day he has a few things to do first. After that, he relaxed for the rest of the day.
Chapter 11 End.
