Chapter 17: Every day has to come to an end, wherever you want it or not

Walking through the forest, Thita and Alex made their way towards civilization, both of them carrying several dead bodies with them.

Alex carried in both his shoulders the bodies of his fallen friends and formal party members with a fatigued and disturbed expression on his face.

On the other hand, Thita carried the dead bodies of five wolves on his shoulders, and one of them was the body of the pack leader. Unlike Alex, Thita didn't seem tired and in pain even though his body was covered with scars and sweat. His face didn't reveal any emotions, and his eyes were cold and sharp, glancing everywhere around them to be safe.

Still, despite his glances, Thita didn't spot any danger around them through their journey back, and without realizing it, both of them made it to the edge of the forest.

Neither Alex nor Thita spoke throughout their journey. They kept quiet, each accompanied by their thoughts. Thita wasn't bothered by that since a bit of thinking time was always welcome.

As they approached the entrance, the guards suddenly stopped them. However, they didn't have to wait long, as Alex explained their situation quickly enough and managed to convince them.

One of them even patted Alex's shoulder when he entered with understanding after hearing their situation. They seemed to know Alex to a certain extent.

Walking behind Alex, Thita was granted permission to enter, and after saying a proper goodbye to Alex, he headed toward the Adventurers Guild.

Alex didn't follow and headed his way. He carried the dead bodies of two of his fallen friends after all, and even though they were properly covered with cloth in the entrance, he still had to find the families of these two.

Needless to say, his day wouldn't get any better, and even after delivering them, he couldn't just leave right after. He was their friend, and he had responsibilities, even though some of them were going to be harsh.

Thita, on the other hand, kept walking towards the guild, his prey covered in cloth to avoid disturbing passersby. Before leaving, he had also discussed what to do with the wolves and the mission with Alex, and he was told that he could take all the rewards for himself.

Still, he didn't want to take everything, but Alex kept persisting. Considering his situation, Thita decided to take it. After all, he needed money to live a normal life.

Walking through the busy streets, he noticed that the sun was about to set. This world had a sun too, and even though it didn't look the same as the one in his previous world, it seemed to work similarly to his previous one.

Noticing that it was almost night time, Thita picked up his pace and made it to the Adventurers Guild.

There, he spoke with the same staff as before, and with a quick explain and a short evaluation of the bodies, he claimed his reward.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

Leaving the building, Thita now finally had some of this world's currency. Noticing the silver coins in his hands, he decided to think about his next course of action.

'So from what I heard, each of these coins is equal to 10 normal silver ones. Then, one silver coin is equal to 100 bronze ones. Also, 100 silver coins is equal to one gold. Yeah, that makes sense. Also, there are some coins of these categories that are larger and are worth 10× more than their normal version.

Now, I have 5 big silver coins or whatever they are called, so I should have around 50 silver coins. I got 20 for clearing the mission, 4 for each of the 4 wolves, and 12 for the pack leader. Hopefully, all that should last for today and perhaps for the next couple days.'

He wasn't sure if all that was enough, but considering the effort he and his party had to make to obtain them, it should be enough for a temporary place to stay.

As he was making the calculations, Thita suddenly heard his stomach growl.

'Ah, right. There is that necessity too.'

Ignoring his hunger, Thita made his way towards a nearby restaurant or, at least, a place that looked like it served food. He wasn't sure if that was the case in this world, but there had to be a place near the center that severed food. Hopefully...

Exiting the building that he had entered some time ago, Thita couldn't help but be pleased. The food was not as good as the one that his previous world had to offer, but considering the fact that he only had to pay 5 silver for everything he ordered, he couldn't help but be in a good mood. Money was important, and it looked like he had a lot.

Walking with a full stomach through the now dark town, he made his way towards a nearby inn. He had asked one of the employees that served him before for informations and about the town and she proved to be helpful.

Not only did she told him about the inn, but she also provided him with tons of information about the town, which would definitely be of great use for him in the future.

Nothing the street lights around the road as he walked, he couldn't help but be amazed with how much light they provided considering the fact that there was no electricity in this town. The lights seemed to be lit with fire on their top, which burned non-stop and provided enough light to clearly see where you walked.

'Wasn't there something similar used in my old world? No, this doesn't look right. Is this perhaps some type of magic?'

He didn't knew what to make of it, but he decided to ignore these thoughts for now. It was late, and he had experienced enough strange things for one day.

Arriving in front of the inn, Thita pushed the door and made his way towards the reception desk.

He then proceeded to speak with the middle-aged man behind it, and after leaving that there was a room for one person available, he quickly rented it for the night. He didn't know how long he would stay, so it would be wise not to rent for more time.

After paying three silver, he took the key for the room and after climbing the stairs, he found it. Putting the key in the keyhole, he turned it and pushed the door open. After that, he entered and locked the door behind him.

The room wasn't very spacious, only having time for a middle-sized bed and small yet large enough bathroom. There wasn't any furniture, except a chair and a desk with a candle and a lighter next to it.

Being satisfied with it, Thita made his way to the bathroom, and after taking a quick bath and completing any other business, he proceeded to lay down on the not-so-soft, yet comfortable bed.

He didn't knew how there was a water system in this town that provided water in every room, but he decided to explain it with the convenience of magic and then ignore this thought once again. There was no point in trying to comprehend something that required knowledge he didn't have anyway.

Still, now he was clean from all the blood and sweat, so he decided not to care for anything else and fell asleep. It was late, and there was no point in thinking about stuff he could think of tomorrow.

With his day officially over, hopefully, Thita closed his eyes and fell asleep for the first time in this new world. Hopefully, a better day awaited him tomorrow.
