Despite how it might seem to Seb at times, Anya was relieved at how quickly Seb was recovering from his injuries. She'd seen the wounds and had a very clear impression of how an Unawakened hospital would have reacted to the bleed through. George was clearly a talented healer and had set him on the fast path to a full recovery.
This didn't mean she wasn't frustrated that he was still moving gingerly when he stretched his True Self. It didn't mean she liked what she saw when he lay back and grit his teeth while his War Husk went through its daily cycle of self-repair. The only reason she wasn't raging at the fact that they had to be careful to avoid any serious exertion of every sort was that she knew that Seb felt the same.
After talking with Phelann they'd spent the rest of the day relaxing, only pausing briefly to say goodbye once more when she let them know she was leaving. The next morning Seb had insisted on stretching first thing after breakfast.
Anya took a moment between drills to take a good look at Seb as he went through his much calmer routines. He hadn't winced nearly as much with his first round this morning, proof that he was well on track to being able to exert himself fully once more. Noticing movement out of the corner of her eye she turned to see Phelann standing at the entrance to the hall, clearly wanting to let them know she was there but not wanting to intrude.
Seb, she sent as he started to reset his stance. She's here.
"Seer Phelann," she said as she crossed the room. "I trust you had a good evening?"
"Thank you my Lady, it was as pleasant as might be expected."
"Phelann," Seb chimed in as he joined them. "You didn't need to come over first thing in the morning."
"I came over once I had what information I could find," she answered. "I hope it is not too early?"
"No, I was about to finish up before Anya told me I was pushing too hard." Seb said even as Anya felt him send his affection over the band. "Would you like some coffee? Or to test your machine assuming you didn't yesterday?"
"I had not tested it," she said. "But if you wish for some coffee I could make some while we discuss what I found."
"I'll never turn down coffee," he said with a laugh and Anya found herself grinning.
A few minutes later they were once more seated at Phelann's new desk as she busied herself behind them with the machine. They'd heard her grumble a few times before the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the room.
"It is not Kaf, but the machine is straightforward enough," she said as she brought over a trio of cups and sat across from them.
"Thank you Seer," Anya said before taking a sip.
Seb echoed her a moment later before turning his attention to the feed data Phelann had already pulled up. Anya turned to the data as well and started reading off the categories in a state of shock.
"Technique lists? Basic Energy patterns? Local Pond tutors? Possible Mentors?"
"I'm sorry the information is so limited," Phelann began.
"Limited? You have more here than we've found in several days," Anya answered.
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
She saw Seb poking at the data, expanding and skimming through. "You found something else about Bladesong?"
"Ah, yes. Only stories and theories unfortunately but I thought you might like some hints about what it might do for you."
"I have a few guesses actually. It helps me, and anyone I think of as allies, better feel and understand the flow of battle. It does the opposite to enemies."
"Oh," Phelann answered and Anya frowned.
Seb! she sent. She put effort in even though we hadn't asked and you just!
"That isn't to say I wouldn't want to hear about what you found," he added before she'd even finished sending the thought. "It might do more and I'd never know without hearing what others have managed."
Phelann seemed to perk up at his suggestion and launched into a detailed explanation of what she had found, which elements seemed to be factual as opposed to exaggerated, and generally going into details that Anya would have been happy to never learn. Seb, however, seemed to not only be interested but at times asked for further details as to why she felt something was fact or fiction.
When they finally finished discussing the findings Anya caught Phelann smiling, only for the emotion to fade into professionalism.
"Do you believe that will be of assistance Seb?" Phelann asked.
"Maybe? I don't think any of their exploits match what the song feels like to me, but some of them seemed to manifest multiple effects as they grew stronger. It makes me think I might manage as well in time."
"I do not know how long you intend to remain in the Shallows before resuming your Dives," Phelann said as she refocused their mirrored feeds onto the list of techniques and trainers. "If you plan to leave quickly the lists and basic patterns will be most useful, you should be able to study and practice them within the depths."
"How will we-" Anya began.
I'll be able to memorize them I think. Or at least memorize enough to get us started.
"Seb's gift will likely be of use in that regard," Phelann answered when she paused.
"Thank you Seer," Anya said with a smile. "He interrupted me to say the same, he simply forgot you would not hear him."
Hey!
Admit it, she sent back.
I admit I love you.
She knew Phelann was sitting across from them, witness to their rapidly changing facial expressions without being a part of the conversation. She knew and yet she blushed as though he had yelled it for everyone to hear.
I love you too Seb, she finally sent then cleared her throat.
"Our apologies. We do not mean to exclude you."
"No offense taken. It is not uncommon for couples to lose themselves in private conversation, or so I have heard."
So she's heard? Seb sent.
"Regardless," she answered, ignoring Seb's comment. "We will do our best to respect your time."
"Thank you," Phelann said as the feed scrolled once more and she resumed her explanations. "These trainers can be reached fairly easily. They are all on Earth and should be able to help you with the basic techniques. The mentors on the other hand are neither local nor easy to gain time with. If any interest you I will try to arrange an introduction however it may take months for a clear answer."
Anya glanced over at Seb, she had no desire to wait months for answers, not when they could be training and he could work on catching up to her. The information Phelann had found for them was not only useful but went far beyond anything she'd ever even heard hints of in her mother's Holding.
"What do you think?" she asked him.
"We work off the lists and basic patterns as much as possible," he answered. "I feel I was making progress while we were down there and that was guess-work. If we get stuck we can reach out next time we come back to the Shallows."
"You were," she agreed. "But I want to reach out to, wait, does that said Georgette?"
"Yes, Healer Georgette." Phelann answered. "Former Diver, not a combat path but praised for her ability to work under pressure. According to Seer Sean's notes."
Anya saw Phelann take a deep breath and pull up a separate record on her own feed to read aloud.
"Healer Georgette is a wonder. Her former teammates, who by the way are wonderful as well, all praise her abilities and swear that they would never have survived without her. She, they called her George but her records say Georgette, it must be a nickname I suppose, was able to help stabilize and patch them up even in the heat of a few battles. Her records show that before Diving she worked temporarily in the Healer Conclave as a teacher but felt that it wasn't challenging enough."
"How can you not think teaching is challenging though? All those students, all those questions, all those interruptions. Exhausting just to think about if you ask me. But this isn't about me, this is about Georgette. Distinguished Healer and Diver, past experience as a teacher. Would make an excellent tutor for someone looking to get into Dive Healing, if they can find her, she hasn't answered any messages from her teammates in months they said."
Anya tried not to laugh, failing miserably as Seb chuckled beside her.
"Exhausting… interruptions?" he managed to choke out.
"All of his notes are of this style," Phelann said with a frown. "Clearly he was never told that official records and statements are serious matters."
"That did sound like him though. And it had surprisingly few tangents," Anya replied.
Phelann nodded. "Why did you ask about her?"
"She saved his life, recognized my gifts."
"If she works for Skall's I can arrange a meeting. Perhaps make an arrangement with them for her time?"
"Thank you, but I think I will handle it," Anya answered. "I need to thank her for what she did."
"We both do," Seb added as he regained his composure.
"Very well. I've sent you both the EDN data links for the techniques and patterns as well as the information Seer Sean had found on Healer Georgette."
"Thank you Seer Phelann. I'm certain you have other work to attend to, we've already taken up twice as much of your time as we had expected to this month."
"I do have work. But thank you both as well. For this," she gestured to the office as a whole before lifting her mug, "as well as this."
"We will let you know when we depart on our next Dive. A month from then? Yshe and Sam, perhaps other Engineers as well, will be doing further work, I believe they anticipate another two months to finish, so please excuse their interruptions."
"Of course Lady Lysanya," she answered with a small smile and a nod. "Seb."
