59. Inciting a Kaiju Fight

Ren slowly makes her way up a mountain. Then she makes her way down the same mountain as it tilts downward from the earth shifting beneath it. Then the mountain slowly begins to split in half and Ren has to swiftly leap to the other side to get to where she is going. The mountain then shifts again and she has to leap to another uprooted tree to resume her trek. Sophie, has a starkly easier time leaping from loose boulder to uprooted tree than Ren.

“You want to tell me where we’re going?” Sophie asks. “You’re the one with the plan you don’t want to talk about.”

“It’s not a plan, it’s an idea.” Ren says. “And we’re going to a mountain peak I found earlier.”

“A mountain peak.” Sophie gives Ren a frustrated stare.

  “Yep.”

  “Now?”

  “Yep.”

  “The mountains are shifting now.”

  “I know.”

“And what is this grand plan of yours?”

“I said it was an idea.”

Sophie is visibly frustrated with Ren. Sophie initially followed Ren because she seemed to have a plan, but now it seems that she only has a direction.

“Okay! What is your bright idea?” Sophie seethes through her teeth.

“Blow shit up.” Ren says in her plain tone.

“You want to go to a mountain peak to… blow shit up?” Sophie is in disbelief.

  “Yep.”

“How- how is that a good idea?”

  “I didn’t say I had a good idea. I said I had an idea.”

“Oh, you had a dumb idea and just didn’t want to say that part out loud. Is that it?” Sophie was growing more and more frustrated as the conversation continued.

“Nope. I’m going to blow shit up.” Ren says without a hint of remorse.

Sophie gives Ren a hard and disapproving stare.

“What is wrong with you?” Sophie asks.

“I’ve been hanging onto a bundle of dynamite sticks and not using it for too long.” Ren says. “Now I’m going to use it.”

“And you think blowing up a mountaintop is going to achieve what, exactly?”

“I want to see if I can get two mountain monsters to fight.”

“You- you want to try and use a bundle of dynamite to wake up another monster.”

  “Yep.”

“Where the hells do you think you’re going to find one?”

  “I found one earlier.”

“What do you mean you found one earlier?”

“I found a mountain monster earlier.”

“How the hells did you find it on a mountain top?”

“I wrangled a wyvern with rope and it carried me to a mountain top.”

There is a brief pause as the mountain range crumbled around the two.

“A wyvern?” Sophie asks with surprise and confusion.

  “Yep.” Ren says.

  “With nothing but rope?”

  “Yep.”

Sophie gives Ren a cold hard stare. Sophie maintains eye contact with Ren, but a bullwhip appears in her hand. She then whips it out to the side and up into the air. The whip flies into the sky and grows impossibly long. The whip cuts through the air to find it’s mark.

A green wyvern was resting in the mountains just moments ago. It was migrating. It set out with the intention of flying to warmer lands before winter sets in. The mountain it was using as a resting place has begun to fall apart and shift. This proud and beautiful creature takes to the skies and heads north. Mid flight, a bullwhip wraps around the beast and it is dragged down towards the mountain below.

Sophie was still staring Ren down. After lashing a whip out, she violently tugs on it. The whip goes slack as the end of the whip is pulled toward her. After a moment, the other end of the rope brings a green wyvern with it in a great crash.

“A wyvern? No big deal.” Sophie says.

The wyvern shoots up to claw at Sophie. Sophie, in turn, slams her fist into the wyvern’s claws and the claw snaps off. Sophie violently ties her whip around the wyvern and fashions it into a rough bit and bridle.

“Hey girl! Climb on. I’ll take you for a ride.” Sophie makes a snide joke as she forces this magnificent beast into her service.

Ren stares up at Sophie looking down on her. Ren is then given the option of leaping from boulder to uprooted tree again or riding with Sophie. The voices in Ren’s head choose the latter. Ren starts to mount the beast and Sophie grabs her hand and plops her down in front of her. With the both of them seated, the wyvern begrudgingly takes off to the sky. Following Ren’s directions and Sophie’s violent nudging, the wyvern flies to where Ren once found a monster’s eyelid buried inside a mountain peak.

  “It’s time.” Ren says.

Beyond Sophie’s eyes, Ren procures a bundle of dynamite sticks. Ren hops off the wyvern and bounces her way up to the monster’s eye.

“I have a bundle of dynamite, and I’m finally using it.” Ren says in her flat tone of voice.

A bundle of dynamite is placed next to the giant monster’s eyelid. Ren takes a flint and steel lighter out of her extradimensional space and quickly starts to light the fuse.

“You uhh…” Sophie hesitates for a moment. “You never said what this would achieve.”

“I wanted to see if I could get the two mountain monsters to fight.” Ren says.

The fuse to the bundle of dynamite is lit. When it is, Ren rushes back to Sophie and the wyvern they kidnapped. As designed to do, the dynamite detonates. It is less impressive of an explosion than a pile of powder kegs.

“How exactly do you know this will work?” Sophie asks.

“I don’t know.” Ren says back.

The wyvern is pressured into taking wing. It takes off with Ren and Sophie in tow. As they fly off, the mountain beneath them shakes. The monster that is at the end of Ren’s goal shakes it’s head. A massive hand unearths a mountain as it reaches for the eyelid that endured an explosion. The monster rubbed at it’s eye and turned over in it’s bed of mountains. It turns and reveals it’s face to the airborne duo. It looks like a bald gorilla with leathery green skin. It lets out a yawn and kicks one of it’s feet. The driving force of this kick pushes mountains into the monster that Krosstetch awoke with powder kegs. A mountain knocks into the gray clawed mountain monster. This massive monster trips over the mountain and falls, creating a massive impact that shakes the mountain range more than it already is. The gray monster picks itself up and searches for the source of the tripping hazard. It’s eyes go from the mountain that tripped it and followed a canyon to the green gorilla monster that went back to sleep. Clearly upset by the monster that returned to sleep after knocking it over, the gray monster leaped on top of the green gorilla monster. The two monsters tumble over and begin to get into a violent wrestling match.

“So… so is it working?” Sophie asks.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything better.” Ren says.

The gray monster claws at the gorilla monster and the gorilla responds by grabbing the beast and pile driving it into the mountain range. Mountains get kicked up and turn into loose dirt while a crater of packed dirt forms at the epicenter of the impact. All the while, Ren and Sophie were flying above watching the fight unfold.

“Did… did you just want to see giant monsters fighting?” Sophie asks.

  “Maybe.” Ren says.

“And how is this supposed to help?”

  “I don’t know.”

Sophie gives Ren a disgusted and frustrated look. This is until a shadow began to loom over them. Looking up towards the figure casting a shadow on them, it is a winged figure with a long trunk and the corpse of a boil grigos hangs off of it’s tail. Sophie goes wide eyed as a monster that seemingly has no reason to be here is now here. Ren’s face and expression are as stoic and blank as ever.

“Wait! Why?” Sophie stammers. “How does this even make sense? Why is it here?”

  “I don’t know.” Ren says.

Sophie gives Ren a disgruntled look before telling her off.

“Okay, you need to shut the hells up for a second.”
