Titan gets lessons in shooting

  Chapter 20

  Back to the present….

Titan concluded his story. He frowned looking out at the window at the highway.

Hank chuckled. “Deacon was a wild dude.” He said.

Titan grunted a sound of acknowledgement to Hank’s words.

Hank noticed the sudden change in Titan's mood. "What's wrong? You feeling sad about thinking about your father?" He asked.

Titan frowned at the road. "Can you make energy weapons like my Dad could?"

Hank frowned. "No. That's a rare talent only a few fighter classes have. One the few talents your Dad had that came in handy when a weapon broke while we were on a job."

"Are you sure it's a magical talent?" Titan asked.

Hank was quiet for a few moments. "Deacon wasn't a Psi. There are plenty of battle mages and a handful of fighter classes that can do that trick."

Titan frowned. "Did my Dad ever talk to you about his parents or relatives?"

Hank sighed but he nodded his head. "Yeah. Deacon's grandfather was a wizard and his father was a bastard that traveled around."

Titan frowned waiting for more information but Hank's silence let him that was it. Titan wasn't going to allow that.

"What class was my Dad's father?" Titan asked.

Hank shook his head. "He was a ah. A criminal." He said.

Titan snorted. "He was a rogue wasn't he?" He asked.

Hank grimanced shaking his head. "Your not like him. You're like your Dad. You're responsible and a reasonable man. Deacon's dad was always getting caught up into some shit."

Titan glanced at Hank's stiff profile. "You knew my grandfather?" He said.

Hank nodded stiffly. "Oh yeah. I used to think he was cool OG back in the day. He quickly turned my thoughts away from that when your grandmother died."

"Where was good old grandpa? Off robbing a bank or something?" Titan asked half joking.

  "Yes." Hank said.

Titan stared at him. "Are you fucking serious?"

Hank nodded stifly. "Oh. Yeah. His ass was always off doing some shit like I told you and no I can't give you his name."

"How you know I was going to ask that?"

Hank chuckled. "Deacon told me you would ask me. I can't tell you but to be honest even if I did tell you it wouldn't help you no good. Deacon's father had a whole lot of fake ID'S. Deacon didn't even know his father's real name."

  "Shit. That's crazy." TItan said.

Titan stared at the road silently. "What was his mother like?" He asked.

Hank's face formed a warm smile. "Like your mother. They were sweet hearts in their teens and never have left each other." He said.

The sound of a storm and a thunder boom sounded out.

Tian looked ahead as a flash of violet and jade lightning crackled in the sky.

“What’s that?” Titan asked pointing at the storm ahead.

A black square hand device in Hank’s dashboard made an alarm sound.

Hank pressed his foot down on the accelerator driving the truck forward toward an exit off the highway.

“I thought we were going to the range?” Titan said.

Hank nodded. “We are. Slight change of plans though. I got a question for you first.”

  Tian frowned. “Go ahead.”

“Do you know how many types of dungeons there are on this world?”

Tian frowned at the strange question. “I don’t know what you mean.”

Hank smiled as he drove off the exit ramp and into regular traffic and straight down a street.

“Yes you do. You’re a smart guy. How many types of dungeons are there?”

“Two from experience. The one inside a building another outside. Before leading to in between pocket diminsion.”

Hank whistled. “Guess what type of dungeon we’re headed to?”

“Shit. I thought you were just taking me to a outdoor range.”

Hank nodded his head. “That was the plan until another dungeon just went live close by. That sound you heard was call from the government.”

“Every time you get a signal you have to go to the dungeon?”

  Hank nodded with a grimace.

“Yep. Got to contain the roaches from getting out. A government wizard and legendaries will come by to lock it down. Hang on tight.”

Hank made a sharp turn off the main road until a private dirt road.

Titan stared up ahead down the road as purple wall of magic surrounded ranch and range area.

  KA!

Titan looked up to see a strange glowing bird in the air that looked like horse with bat wings.

“What the fuck is that?” Titan said in alarm.

The strange beast hit invisible wall in the sky and flew down to the ground.

“Just remember. We’re here to contain. Stay with me. Your going to be getting your shooting training in today Young Blood.”

Hank turned off the road and stopped the truck and got out.

Titan followed him out. Hank was grinning as got out a long barrel black rifle.

“Grab my bow and the extra rifle for me.” Hank said and then hurried off to get into a good position.

Titan picked up the magical brown hunting bow. It was an oddly shaped bow that formed the shape of “W”.

Titan then took the bow and extra rifle over toward where Hank was positioned on the grass on his belly and rifle pointed up to the sky.

Hank waved Titan behind him. “Always be careful around firearms.”

“Understood. What are you aiming for?” Titan asked, positioning himself slightly behind to the side of Hank.

“Shh! Just watch me work young blood. Watch, listen and learn.” Hank said quietly. “You bring ear plugs?”

“Yeah.” Titan said and then quickly took out his ear plugs and put them on.

A second later the rifle arm fired off an explosion.

Titan watched as a invisible beast several yards away was shot in the head.

A second later the monster’s head exploded and the body fell dead to the ground.

Titan frowned but he said nothing. He just watched quietly.

“We got phantom beast men coming. You won’t be able to see them. Use your focus and senses to listen for them.” Hank said.

Titan frowned at the rifle placing it down next to Hank. Titan pushed out his focus and used his senses to take in information.

“Don’t leave my side. See if you can use my bow. You might as well get some shooting practice in.”

“You don’t have any arrows. How do I use it?”

“You remember how I used my bow in your first dungeon raid? Can you picture that time in your head?”

  “Yeah.”

“Do everything I did. The bow is magical. I need you to fire it when you get radar lock on your target. Hit them.”

Titan sent out his focus as he positioned himself copying the mental form of Hank’s archery form.

There was a stillness now. Titan listened intently.

Hank fired his rifle twice a body became visible for a few seconds.

Titan took aim and pulling back on a magical string and let it go.

A string of purple energy fired from the bow and hit something.

A scream followed before an animal dropped the grass.

“You see where it dropped?” Hank asked.

  “Yeah.”

“KIll it. Don’t just shoot it.”

Titan drew the bow string took aim at a spot on the grass and let the bow sting go.

Titan felt energy left him as purple energy went out and hit the grass.

Another scream followed as something caught fire and then a purple red beast appeared.

The beast man screamed as it was set on fire and then fell back down dying quickly in purple flames.

“Keep watch. I have to reload real quick.” Hank said.

Titan grunted in acknowledgement. His focus was expanded out. Hank quickly worked fast to reload his rifle.

Titan heard running feet behind him suddenly at the same time he heard something in the air.

“Hit the one in the air.” Hank said.

Titan scanned the sky but he couldn’t see the enemy. “I can’t see him.”

“Don’t use your eyes. Use your mind and focus.” Hank instructed.

Titan could see feel the danger coming up behind them but he focused his attention upward.

Titan listened and then took aim and fired off a energy purple energy wave upward.

A creature was hit across the chest by the violet energy and then fell fast to the grass a few feet away.

There was a scream behind Titan before Hank sent a dagger into the chest of a beast man with a short sword in his hand.

The beast fell hard to the grass and disappeared leaving behind twelve gems and Hank’s ebony dagger.

Titan frowned and wiped his head of sweat. “I forgot my daggers.” He said.

“Don’t worry about it Young Blood. This is just training. We are holding this dungeon down until the legendary rankers get here, you feel me?”

Titan nodded. “I got you OG.” He said.

Hank snorted. “OG. I wouldn’t say all that shit but thank you for the compliment. You hear that?” He said.

Titan frowned and heard a melody coming from inside the truck.

“What’s that mean? Are the top ranks on the way?” Titan asked.

“Yes Sir. It won’t be that long. We just have to hold out a bit and wait for those legendary boys to arrive soon.” Hank said.
