21 - The City of Dreams

It didn’t take long until the magic within each of the Tavern-goers was stable and the Fae started work on shaping the balls to further his plans.

  —--

The journey along the road was without trouble,

From his Harp, a pleasant melody did bubble,

A calming respite from the constant fighting,

Just the occasional songbird he was sighting,

Days passed and soon the journey was over,

The sight of the City was a supernova,

The City was an artists nightmare or dream,

Everywhere another colour did shout and scream,

Every wall was made from a different rock,

The clashing of aesthetics was quite a shock,

Muted blues emerged from vibrant pinks,

Everything made by an architect that drinks,

This wasn’t helped by the floating islands high above,

Where the wallets of the rich shared their obscene love,

The ground of entire estates held in the air by ornate art,

Celestial stonework making sure they didn’t come apart,

Combined with no understandable layout for the paths,

Like a maze made just to confuse others for laughs,

Asking for directions was an exercise in frustration,

Less painful would be getting a castration,

Instructions received were confusing and weird,

Like turning left at the Tea drinker with a beard,

After hours of not making any progress,

Our Hero stopped for a moment to reassess,

He looked at his harp and listened to its notes,

Upon the air a discordant melody floats,

Slowly turning the sound improves as he faces east,

This is guide he can understand at least,

So winding between buildings and gardens he walks,

Listening to the Harp as the tune released talks,

Finally stopping before a little wooden door,

That compared to the buildings around looked rather poor,

Gathering his courage he knocked loudly,

To which an answer replied proudly,

That our Hero should enter and gaze,

Upon wonders that were guaranteed to amaze,

Stepping into a small room of marble and emerald,

Standing upon a stool was the smallest herald,

A mouse with the whitest fur he’d ever seen,

Wearing a jacket of the darkest green,

Inquired as to what our Hero was here for,

As watching the forgotten door was their chore,

A conversation followed in which our Hero learned,

That this place matched the recommendation he’d earned,

And getting to the front desk was as easy as pie,

Then the roof open up to the clear sky,

The mouse chants and with a burst of magic,

Our Hero is flung up into the student traffic,

Mere seconds have past when the journey stops,

With a sequence of loud and unnatural pops,

The new room is rather plain compared to the one before,

If you don’t count all the artwork of disgusting gore,

Paintings and statues that seem to leak blood,

Which fades to somehow avoid causing a flood,

At a desk was a plain lady which made her look out of place,

Introduced the Academy and accepted his letter with grace,

Gave him a map of the Academy grounds and buildings,

And a pin that would let him pass their shieldings,

Declaring that the Dean would want a meeting,

With a visitor whose plan to stay was fleeting,

But that he was busy and would be in touch,

So our Hero should spend the time reading and such,

The ground floor of the library was open to all,

There he would not miss the Deans call,

And the selection of books were quite expansive,

Primers on many topics were really comprehensive,

So out of the lobby he walked and gazed around,

Purple bushes were scattered upon the ground,

  Surrounding trees with kaleidoscopic leaves,

  Through which enchanting daylight weaves,

Bathing the path with a light show of drama,

With a recurring theme of a magical llama.

  —---

Arriving at the City that reflected lights,

His crows were distracted by the sights,

It wasn’t long before he lost his lead,

To his crows he did constantly plead,

  Wrenching them from a shiny,

Causing them to caw all whiny.
