A full book!
I did it - and I'm still doing it! Volume 2 is well on its way!
I still find it hard to believe...
The idea for the story came to be when I saw an image, it had a catgirl in it that caught my attention, and my brain kind of ran with it, thought up a backstory for her, and then some dude to have her interact with, and then It thought up the dude's backstory, and then I had them fall in love, and envisioned so many adventures they could have, so It thought up a place for them to live in, then it fleshed out the story of how they met, then it showed me a heart-wrenching and heart-warming scene where Niala had misunderstood David's actions and thought he loved someone else, and he ended up running after her and setting things straight...
I ended up not using that version, obviously. Do you think it would have been more interesting?
If it didn't come across; my brain and I have a strange relationship. It does its own thing while I do my own, and sometimes it runs up to me, yapping like a little kid, and tells me this amazing story it just made up. Very useful when you're mastering a D&D game, as I've done for two decades at this point.
Sadly, the group drifted away, and I was left with all my stories, untold, until this one came along and just begged to be written.
It took me a while to get to it, because I had attempted to write books before, and had always given up after half or two-thirds of one. But this story wouldn't shut up, so now you get to read it :)
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Volume 1 focuses heavily on the two main characters, and I hope I did a good job of portraying their personalities.
David is the few-words, rock-on-the-outside, gooey warm fillings on the inside, kind of guy. He has deep-seated fears of inadequacy, but a strong heart and a desire to help.
Niala is the super-smart, super-considerate, heart-on-her-sleeve kind of girl, with a bit of a martyr complex, with a streak of klutz, and a tiny scornful devil on her shoulder that pops out now and then.
And they've both got special powers.
I really like them! I hope you do, as well, since they'll be around a lot; they're the main MCs after all.
Do you enjoy the way I try to drop little hints about things to come, and wrap it back up into the current story, unearthing the iceberg, so to speak? Or am I delusional and is that not at all how the story comes across? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
In volume 2, we're going to meet several new people. With the two MCs established pretty solidly, it's time to expand the cast a bit.
In time, in future volumes (oh boy!) we're also going to explore the rest of the world that I've been slowly building up.
Well, I'm really happy that I got all the way here, and I'm really happy there are some people that are along for the ride!
Even if those numbers are, at the time of this writing, very small, you're all very special to me! I'm super happy to have you along, even if you're the strong silent type that just want to read and not comment - that's fine! Enjoy the story!
But if you're ever so slightly hesitating about dropping me a comment; please do! I just want to hear back from you! What you like, what you don't like, where you think the story's going! Whatever! I'll take it all!
With my begging out of the way, please, dear readers, sit back in, the show is about to resume!
