Time has passed. Onex has not gotten as lucky in the past; he has not seen another island in weeks. Which really sucked, he couldn’t expand at all.
Right now, he sat at his desk. Thinking over the past events and thinking of future plans. He knew that he needed more allies and land, and to find whatever this “Book” was that the voice was telling him to find.
Onex looked up at the ceiling. The house that he was in, that has been turned into his home. Has greatly improved over the past several weeks. Smoother surfaces, the architecture was much easier on the eyes.
The layout of the house as also changed. It was now more closed off and more rooms were added; this was because it made Onex feel like he was on the surface again.
Onex sighed as he scratched his head. He got up and walked outside and entire the world outside. His island has also changed, there were now Pubs, stores, more housing, more farming, even some small lakes of water, somehow.
It was starting to feel more like home, well that’s if he lived in the middle-class back on the surface. He lived in the lower-class of the economy, which is why he was so confused to why he was accused of being framed of treason. How would the capital ever hear of him if he was known by close to none?
But at least in the void, he didn’t have to worry about money. Well, he probably will in the future as his Kingdom expands, but not now at the very least.
Onex has also been practicing swordsman ship over the past few weeks since recovery. He didn’t want to get seriously injured again, so he’s been improving his skills day by day.
He continued thinking about all of the events that led up to this moment. And it was quite peaceful now. But that made him feel uneasy, ever since he got to the void there were dangers events after one and each other, but now there was peace. And it felt out of place.
Onex gently scratched his head as he glanced around. He knew he shouldn’t but down his guard, but the peaceful environment slowly broke down his guard, forcing his expression to soften under the mask.
But soon enough he raised his guard once again. The sight ahead of his island was jaw drooping, an absolutely giant island in the distance. The island was twice as big as the biggest continent on the surface. Yet it felt dull, and empty.
The sight of this new island was awe inspiring. People on Onex’s island were all frozen in awe, or fear. It was hard to tell. Even John, who Onex assumed had knowledge of the void before entering, was also struck by awe.
From Onex position he could see dark tall buildings, devoid of life. Onex slowly approached the edge of his island to get a better look at this other island.
He then forced a smile. The island looked empty, yes. But if he could conquer this island then he would have ten times the resources, allowing even more advancements at a later date.
But right before he could move his island closer. Anna approached and gave Onex a slight glare.
“You aren’t planning on going on that thing?”
“Well of course, there’s so many things I could get from conquering it.”
Anna sighed while rubbing her forehead, “Every time you do something like this. Something bad happens, and I don’t feel like patching you up next time you get injured again.”
Onex let out a nervous chuckle as he scratched the back of his head, “I won’t get injured this time. I’ve improved; I took out that giant monster remember.”
Anna grumbled under her breath before speaking once more, “Fine then, but John is going with you.”
…
Onex and John were now exploring the island full the buildings. Every building was built like a prison. And each prison looked to be more than a thousand years old. There was also an eerie feeling just standing on the island that seemed to go on forever.
They continued to explore these ruins. The closer they got to the center, the more ruined the buildings got.
It seems they started building from the center and then outward. That’s the exact opposite of how I did it.
Onex thought as he walked through the growing ruins. He paused on he saw a broken wall with a mural. There was something special about, it depicted a giant stone golem standing in the middle of the ocean, and behind it stood a giant tower—the tower to the void.
The odd thing about this mural. Was that in books Onex had once read, it told of giant golem made of stone that watched over the gate to a divine prison made by the God of Justice.
Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.
In the story, the gate to the prison was destroyed by a man named Enlin. According to the story, Enlin was accused of using dark magic by his brother and was sentenced to go to the divine prison. But Enlin refused to accept this, and after his escape, he destroyed the gate to the prison.
This made the God of Justice angry and cursed him. Changing Enlin’s body into a…pendulum!
Coming to this conclusion, Onex quickly pulled out the white pendulum. And he started to connect the dots.
The tower must be the gate. So, the Divine Prison was the Void but wait. Enlin destroyed the tower…How did it come back? The story never mentioned the God of Justice remaking the tower, could the God of Justice make multiple ‘gates’ to the void? But the story never mentioned that either.
Onex thought over it. There was key information missing that he yet to have. So, he should not jump to conclusions just yet.
After calming down his thoughts. Onex began exploring with John once again. Neither of them said anything, and the entire island was dead silent if not for their footsteps, and the other pair of footsteps.
Right when the two of them heard the walking they stopped and tensed. Onex put his hand on the hilt of his sword and John did the same.
Onex heart was beating. A slight sense of paranoia washed over him. Onex did not push it away, instead he used its advantages to increase his observations.
The footsteps did not stop. They sounded small and light, but they were still and sounded like they were heading past Onex and John. And in the corner of Onex’s eye, he saw a short figure running at high speeds.
Right as Onex saw the figure, he began chasing it. The figure was agile and was faster than Onex. Causing him to lose the figure in the ruins, which barely looked like buildings anymore.
Onex was also tired now. It was hard to jump over all of the ruined pieces, not trip, while maintaining a good speed. The small figure was truly agile.
Onex fell onto the ground. Trying to catch his breath, though John did not check up on Onex, he just started to check the ruins for anything useful. When he found nothing, he kicked a piece of debris away while sitting on the biggest piece of ruin.
Once Onex got his energy back. He sat up and started to walk in the direction the figure ran off to. John slowly got up and followed behind Onex.
After a while of walking through the ruins. A giant, ruined temple appeared. It was much more reserved than the other ruins, but it still had major damage.
The two walked into the temple. Murals upon murals of the Gods of the surface world, this included the God of Justice, but there was being next to him. It was scribbled and scratched out by dark ink.
With closer inspection, it was a women shrouded in darkness. The only feeling that was convened…was loneliness.
This mural also stood out. All of the other Gods were worshiped up on the surface, and all had their own stories. But this being was not mentioned in any story and was even scratched out of a temple made to honor the Gods.
The mysterious women also stood close to the God of Justice on the mural.
Could this be a forgotten God? A God only known in the Void maybe? That could check out. Maybe the God of Justice made this place to send her down here for a crime. Then Enlin destroyed the tower, trapping her down here. Then maybe another God recreated the gate to the Void.
Onex thoughts were interrupted as John was messing with what seemed to be chest. Right before Onex could say anything. The small figure appeared and snatched the chest from John’s hand.
Because of this, Onex finally got a good look at the small figure. He was a short man, around 4'1 in fact. And he didn’t look like a child either, he looked like a full-grown man. He wore a brown cloak and carried a backpack. Despite looking like a small human, there was something about him that didn’t feel human.
“Huh? That’s my chest.” John said pulling out a sword.
The small man stuck out his tongue, “Not anymore.”
John gritted his teeth and thrust his sword at the small man. But the small man was much faster and dodged the attack.
Then he pulled out a dagger and went to slice John’s throat. But Onex unsheathed his sword and quickly blocked the attack.
“Hey now, let’s not get hasty.” Onex said, trying to calm down the situation.
The little man jumped back, “A strong human? I thought only the top forty conquers had more then one Void Artifacts.”
“The you talk tells me that you aren’t human. So what are you?”
“I am called a Wander, some call us Scavengers. It really doesn’t matter.”
“I see. Anyways, can you not attack my companion here?”
The Wander took a moment to answer, “As long as I get to keep this chest!”
Onex didn’t have any problem with it so he nodded, but John interjected, “You can’t do that! I found the chest first!”
Onex simply hit John on the head with the hilt of his sword. After that he began to talk to the Wander for information about this place. According to the Wander, this place was part of the First Generation of the Void. Back then the Void was treated like a prison, this temple was created by the guards to honor the Gods that protected them in the Void.
The scratched-out women apparently were the voice that led Enlin to destroy the gate to the void. And the people did not like that she went against the God of Justice and stopped worshiping her.
Right when Onex heard about the voice, he suddenly thought of something.
Could that voice I’ve been hearing…Be the same voice that led Enlin to destroy the tower?
Onex wondered as he continued to listen to the Wander. Though he wasn’t being as much attention anymore. More focused on all the information that he has gathered.
After a bit of talking with the Wander. And after processing all of the information he had gathered. Onex and John parted ways with the Wander and started heading back to the island.
But right as the stepped out of the temple. The center of the island started to collapse and fall into the void.
“What the?” John mumbled confused.
Onex was also confused. But he didn’t let it slow him down. He grabbed John’s wrist and started dragging him along until John would start running on his own.
…
Soon enough, Onex and John made it back to the island in the nick of time. Right as they jumped onto their island, the island of the first generation fully fell into the void.
Anna soon appeared after and asked if Onex and John had any injuries. Which they didn’t. Anna let out a sigh of relief.
It didn’t take long for Onex to get back to his house. He sat down in his chair and rested his chin on his hands. Looking for a explanation for all the things he learned today.
