Chapter 44: The etched truth

  Chapter 44: The etched truth

  Ray floated in silence.

The void around him felt thicker this time, denser—as if reality itself refused to come close. His body was numb, his mind flickering between pain and confusion. But then, the silence broke.

  "Evaluation complete."

The voice rang out—not spoken, but etched directly into his thoughts. It was the same presence. The Outer Bond.

"You have survived bravely. Your achievements are...good. Your soul, thus, has begun to shape."

Ray blinked, but there was no light, no source—just a searing pressure in his skull. Then, something clicked. As if a locked vault inside his brain had burst open.

Symbols—no, runes—started to burn themselves into his vision. They hovered in the air before him like a spiraling constellation, glowing faint blue, whispering meanings he couldn’t understand—yet somehow knew.

A single rune pulsed brighter than the rest.

  **ASPECT: Spawn of Reality **

The rune twisted mid-air, unfolding like a petal. More text spiraled beneath it, not written in any language Ray had ever seen, yet perfectly clear in his mind:

“You are tethered to reality itself—an aspect born from fragments of shattered truth and lingering gods. Yours is the clarity of reality. The world’s threads shall no longer hide from you.”

Ray’s breath caught. Around him, the void shifted, flickering. He understood it—not just as emptiness, but as a plane absent of defined laws. He could sense faint ripples, pressure zones, cold spots. Every shift told a story.

  His heart raced.

  Then—

  "Aspect ability... initializing."

The rune shivered. Ray felt a jolt through his spine. Suddenly, he could feel the pattern of his own thoughts. A rush of comprehension flooded him. Abstract ideas, movement, energy—everything became clearer, quicker, sharper.

  "Aspect Ability: Clear Understanding."

“Your perception outpaces the present. Your mind adapts with impossible speed. You learn, you interpret, you evolve. But understanding is not dominance.”

Ray clutched his head. The flow of clarity was overwhelming. The void trembled with meanings he wasn’t sure he wanted to grasp.

  Then the light dimmed.

The rune spun again—and a new one emerged.

"But no gift is without its echo."

  The air grew colder.

Another rune—this one dark, red-tinted, jagged.

  FLAW: MISFORTUNE'S BOND

The moment it appeared, Ray felt it. A sudden wave of grief, guilt, foreboding.

“Your path is bound to misfortune. Danger shall find you even when you flee. Victories will bleed, and peace will rot. Your pain is inevitable. And worse—those bound to you shall bleed in your shadow.”

A vision crashed into his mind. Alkan—his smile fading in blood.

He fell to his knees—or what felt like knees in this space.

Ray didn’t cry. He simply stared ahead, breath shallow, unsure if the pressure in his chest was sorrow or something deeper.

  And then—the last rune.

It appeared, locked in golden chains.

  LEGACY: [SEALED]

“A legacy buried in the marrow of your being. It slumbers, waiting for blood, sacrifice, or truth. Until then, it shall remain shut.”

The chained rune pulsed once—and disappeared.

  Ray remained motionless.

  "Evaluation complete."

More runes came to his vision.

  **Rank: Dormant. **

  Class: Beast

  Core count:[13/1000]

  Relics: Death call

He felt it then. Something soothing, as of all the damage done to even his soul was being repaired and then he felt as if he was becoming more ... complete. But he also felt different about who he was. He didn’t just feel human anymore. He felt... detached. Like his soul had been set outside the world to watch it from afar.

Then, the presence faded. The runes scattered into dust.

The void began to crack—literally. Fractures of light pierced through the nothingness, and sound returned like waves of reality crashing back in.

Ray closed his eyes as everything shattered around him.

  And then—he fell.
