151. War Prep (Book Two)

After calming down a bit. I thought about everything that just transpired and what the plan going forward should be. There’s no reason to alarm the entire City, so there won’t be any big announcement about what’s going on.

But the City Guard, the Ash Guard, and the Olirag Clan needs to be made aware of the situation. Elder Zal didn’t tell me whether I should or shouldn’t tell them, but I’ll use my own discretion here. I think they should know.

Hm, what about the Cities current long term plans. More buildings are planned, and we used all the Mavelia Transport Stations we got with the envoys who visited. The Dwarfs, the Elves, and the mermaid people. In a couple weeks, those stations will be added to the hub we have here, and we’ll be able to freely transport to them.

Hm. I’ll tell Richard to visit those Cities to speak to the local City Lords. This war will likely affect the whole Planet, so it would be nice if the whole Planet could fight together to combat it. But demons…hundreds of thousands of demons wearing human skin. But apparently Elder Zal somehow kept them out of this City.

I wonder if one of them could be a City Lord.

Whatever Elder Zal didn’t tell me how to identify one so maybe its not important for now…well it definitely is, but hey what can I do.

Either way, Richard or maybe Richard and a small group will visit these three Cities and speak to the local human City Lord to get them prepared for what’s to come.

  Alright…I think I’m ready.

  “Boys.”

  “Yes Patriarch.”

  “Yes Patriarch.”

“Go wake up Richard and tell him to come to the conference room. It’s urgent.”

Only a couple minutes passed before Richard was walking into the conference room.

He was wearing PJs. Where did he even get PJs from?

  Anyway.

“Sorry to wake you Richard, but it’s important.”

  “Don’t worry I wasn’t sleeping.”

“Ah that’s good then. Well here’s what happened…”

I then proceeded to explain everything that happened in the meeting with the Vamps, and then I gave a short snippet of Elder Zal’s analysis of the situation.

“So, is there a chance this Elder of yours could be wrong about all of this?”

“Assume she is right and that everything I said is true. If we are wrong then there is no harm in that. If we are right and no preparation was completed, then many more lives will be lost.”

“…Understood. You mentioned you will be in seclusion or something. What is that?”

“Elder Z will be training me, and I won’t be able to leave. The training will continue until the war starts so things will be left to you in the meantime. And before you ask I don’t know when the war will start. All we can do is prepare.”

  “I see…fine, what’s the plan?”

I always liked how quick on the uptake Richard was.

“The plan is to prepare for war without causing widespread panic. No need to announce anything to the entire City. We need to ensure we have plenty of food stocked. As much as possible.

“The City guard will need to be improved upon, dedicate more resources to them and try to grow it larger. I said try because quantity of quality is more important here.

“I’ll speak to Ash Guard. For the adventures guild, dedicate more resources there as well. Offer beginner training courses for example.

“Next, you’re going to be very busy. The transport stations we sent back with the Envoys should be up soon. I need you to go those Cities and inform the local City Lords about the situation. It doesn’t matter if they believe you or not, just let them know.

  “What do you think?”

“Well it sounds like a solid plan. Get our people stronger, store food, and make sure to inform the other Cities.”

  “You seem worried.”

“…Who wouldn’t be? This is war Raizen. There plenty of ordinary families in this City. They won’t be able to handle it if it shows up on their doorsteps.

“And to make it worse it isn’t an ordinary war, but a fantasy one against blood sucking vampires. That’s not normal Raizen. That’s not normal.”

“Don’t worry Richard. No matter what comes, I’ll be at the front of it all. That is my job. To make sure that the people to my back are projected. Just trust me.”

“…I trust you Raizen. We all do. Don’t worry, than plan will work out just fine.”

  “Good.”

“You know…when I first met you, I never took you to be the type to care too much about other people, let alone the whole Planet.

“Yet here you are, ruling a city of over a hundred thousand people, and your planning to fight at the forefront of anything that comes and protecting us. You’ve changed a bit.”

Hm…I suppose he’s right. I definitely didn’t care too much for strangers at the time, and honestly, part of me still doesn’t. I think it’s more so that I care about things I see as mine…I guess that means I just see Earth and her people as mine.

  Hm, what an interesting thought.

“Your probably right. I have changed a bit. Someone has to protect you all.”

“Yeah sure whatever you say. Is that everything for the plan?”

“Pretty much. Its need to know only from here on out. I really want to avoid widespread panic as much as possible. Tell the rest of the main members of the Government, and make sure to send someone to the Frost Dungeon to let Brandon know of what’s going on.

“I’ll meet with the folks from the Olirag Clan, so don’t worry about them. Other than that you should be good to go.”

“Alright, I’ll put everything in motion starting first thing tomorrow morning.”

And with that Richard left. I then asked the boys to tell the members of the Ash Guard on duty right to all enter the conference room.

Now once the five men were gathered in in the conference room…

“A war is coming. It is not a matter of if a war is coming, only when. It will likely be against those vampires from earlier. Those are the details I have for now. I will be in secluded training from now until whenever it starts so you will not need to guard me during that time.

“But I will expect you all to spend all that extra time training and getting stronger. When the war comes I will be at the forefront of whatever comes for us. I will not run, I will not cower, and I don’t expect weaklings to follow me into battle. Is that understood?”

Every single one of them snapped to attention and with a firm salute responded in unison.

  “Sir!”

“Good, go wake up the other members of the team and relay the news. And this information is for need to know only. Dismissed.”

After they left, I wasn’t too far behind them. I needed to speak with Greja and Jrino. They needed to have the opportunity to back out of this or support us if need be. They aren’t as invested in this Planet like the rest of us natives so it’s only right they are informed. Especially since they’ve continued to do right by this City.
