Interdimensional Mercenary Chapter 1

  Alexander Castle is a tall, broadly built young man standing at 6’4’’ and 210 lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. Though built like a NFL linebacker he is more inclined to play video games then football. It was this love of gaming that resulted in him sleeping in till late morning when a soft “Ding” awoke him though it usually would not be able to do so.

  Waking up was a sudden shift from deeply asleep to wide awake in just a moment, this meant shooting out of bed before suddenly stopping confused looking at the transparent window that had suddenly appeared.

  “Huh”

  Thinking quickly a few ideas came to mind including; going crazy, an elaborate prank, or being in some sort of litrpg novel. Most of the ideas were instantly thrown out and with a quick check to see if I was wearing some sort of google glass or something of that sort the last remaining ideas were having gone insane or the litrpg.

  Assuming you’re crazy is a rabbit hole I’m not willing to go down which means assuming this is all real and prepping as such.

  Throwing on a solid blue t-shirt along with a pair of black cargo pants and steel toed boots, then grabbing my wallet, phone, and knife, I started to make some breakfast.

  Turning on the news it seemed that it was reporting on the strange text box.

  That answers that argument quickly.

  Finishing eating and In sat down to watch the news as it switched to report on something else

  Always looking for the newest headlines.

  Sitting there until the timer started to run low and counting down with the last few seconds.

  5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

  Before thinking zero the world disappeared in a flash of light.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Jolting awake I could see a new text box in front of me.
  With that the message closed which left me standing in a pure white room and so I had only one option.
  “Status”
  “Skills”
  I feel both insulted and not insulted at the same time.
  Right after thinking this the room changed and a small cage appeared in the center with a bunny rabbit inside, then a notification with the details of the first task appeared in front of my eyes.
  A timer appeared in the corner of my vision counting down from 2 minutes.
  I see, this shouldn't be too hard unless there is some weird trick to it.
  Taking a second to come up with a quick plan and walking over the cage I opened the cage door a small bit and quickly grabbed the rabbit, it seemed pretty docile but it was looking around the room looking for an escape.
  Putting my other hand on the rabbits head and twisting resulted in a broken neck for the poor rabbit.
  Immediately after killing the rabbit the timer disappeared and was replaced by a new notification.
  I guess I can't continue until the time has run out.
  After the time ran down an extremely short and thin humanoid with green wrinkled skin and a long pointed nose along with Pitch black eyes appeared on the far side of the room. Above it was a name and level.
  Just as I started to read the text the next task appeared.
  Already Knowing what to do I flipped out my Knife and got into a cross position.
  Then the goblin seemed to see me and started running at me while screeching wildly.
  Stabbing forward as the goblin entered range the knife went deep into its left eye before almost immediately being pulled back out.
  “Screech"
  Reaching up to its eye as it screeched for a second before falling onto the ground.
  The corpse dissapates into a fog.
  Looking at my pocket knife I notice that the blood on it is blue.
  Weird.
  Wiping the blood off on my boot I kept the knife in hand just in case.
  After waiting out the time another goblin appeared except it was about 5’10’’ and had a little more muscle mass, along with a wooden staff which it was holding like a baseball bat.
  Instead of Screeching like the goblin, the hobgoblin was just staring me down. After a couple of seconds of staring it started charging trying for a side swipe with its staff. The strike was extremely slow, allowing me to get in a stab in the stomach. It screeched, dropping the staff and putting its hands to its stomach. While it was distracted I went for it going for a stab while its head was looking at its wound but at the last second it looked up so the knife went into its throat again. The hobgoblin then thrashed and the knife was ripped out violently causing the previous stab wound to become a jagged cut from the center of its neck to the side of its neck.
  The hobgoblin fell to the floor and thrashed around for about 20 seconds before going silent and disappearing along with the staff.
  Sitting down for a couple of minutes as the time runs down and only getting back up at the 30 second mark.
  Once the clock ran out I was expecting another monster, maybe an orc if the pattern rang true but when I saw another human on the other side of the room my heart stopped.
  Both of us are probably thinking the same thing right now.
  Fuck.
  Fuck.
  Ok, ok, let's rationalize this, if neither of us is killed we both die, and I would rather be alive with him dead than vice versa.
  The other participant is a man and seems to be a little overweight, has a bite mark on his leg, and a bruise on his face along with no visible weapons.
  Ok, you can do this.
  You can do this.
  Just as I was about to move, the man spoke, “Hey do you know what's going on.”
  Don't think, just do.
  With that thought in mind I was in motion running straight towards my opponent, this instantly caught him off guard along with his injured leg he was slowed down.
  “What the hell?” he panicked right as I reached him and stabbed towards his eye. His flinching back caused me to go off target but not enough as the knife went through the left side of his right eye.
  He froze and I ripped the knife to the left and pulled it out causing him to drop to the floor.
  Sitting there for 30 seconds as I waited for the guilt to hit me but it never came.
  “Ok, I'm fine,” I said aloud.
  I was sitting there in silence until time ran out and a new text box appeared in front of me.
  Before I could even do anything a blinding light flashed and I blacked out.
