Murray’s Tally #3: The Silver Quarter Truth Bomb (Dollar Edition)
Listen up, ye lot. I’ve been hearin’ the humans chatter about silver hittin’ $93–$97 an ounce today. Aye, the shiny stuff’s gone proper mental. But let’s talk real facts, nae the fairy tales the suits spin.
Back in 1964, the minimum wage was $1.25 an hour. That’s five silver quarters. Proper 90% silver coins, each with 0.1808 ounces o’ pure metal. So five quarters = 0.904 ounces o’ silver.
Today? That same 0.904 ounces o’ silver melts down to about $87–$88. Spot price $96-ish, do the math.
The federal minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour. Hasnae budged since 2009.
So if we kept the wage tied to the silver in those old quarters...like it used to be when the dollar meant somethin’...minimum wage should be sittin’ around $87–$88 an hour right now.
But nae. The government and the Federal Reserve took the silver out in 1965, replaced it with cupronickel slugs, and told us it was “for the economy.” Then they printed more paper, more zeros, and called it progress.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
Dishonest? Och, that’s too polite a word. They debased the coinage, inflated the money supply, and now act shocked that a dollar buys less than a thimble o’ cheese.
And the economists? Bless their hearts. They’re out there tryin’ to patch a gushin’ chest wound with bandaids and aspirin. “Let’s tweak the interest rates!” “More quantitative easin’!” “Targeted inflation targetin’!” Meanwhile the wound’s sprayin’ blood across the room and they’re arguin’ about the color o’ the bandage.
I’ve seen less denial from a Felinari caught with his paw in the cheese vault.
Me? I’m keepin’ my tally simple:
Silver value o’ five 1964 quarters today: $87–$88
Minimum wage today: $7.25
Gap: roughly $80 an hour stolen by inflation and sleight o’ hand
My personal silver stash: 0.9 ounces (liberated fair and square)
Cheese equivalent: still more important
The dollar’s lost 90%+ o’ its silver power since they gutted the coins. And they wonder why folks hoard hard assets.
Stay shiny, ye lot. And dinnae trust anyone who tells ye inflation’s only 2–3%. They’re the ones holdin’ the knife.
