Chapter 4 - Reacquaintance

  Chapter 4 - Reacquaintance

I awoke a few minutes later, still with a raging headache, but at least I was conscious. Weirdly the first thing I saw was the Wolf. Standing over me and growling at Valeria. “What is happening?” I asked.

“Well it seems you made a new friend. This puppy hasn’t been letting me come near you since you passed out”.

That was odd. But since I was very much not feeling up to this situation I decided to check my notifications.

What the hell was [Infectious Mana Manipulation]? I focused on that Skill to get an explanation.

That sounded pretty sinister, but I guess it was an apt description.

Yay, new friend! I actually got the sense that the wolf is healthy, but tense. Interesting.

Well, Valeria did say that I should get a new Class. This feels like ‘Following your own path’, right?

  I accepted the Class.

I was somewhat bewildered at what the class wanted from me, until I brought my hand before my face and gave my Fingertips a command. Grow Claws. Sure enough a hard and sharp Claw started to grow out of each of my fingertips. The mental strain of this was very mild, although it did also somewhat hurt physically, about the level of pain of pricking your finger on a needle.

Either my recent experiences have really helped, or I’ve been a dumbass for not noticing I could permanently alter myself or my class is helping me with the strain. Then again Karux never did something like this so who is to say?

Once the claws stopped growing, I stopped the effect. The claws stayed. They were now a permanent part of my body. I told them to recede and they did. Fun.

As I thought about it more I actually had an Idea about the whole “Ability to permanently alter your Body” thing. It was probably the green sweat I produced, when I tried to hide in the forest. I hadn’t washed it off, when I singed myself and Valeria said she would fix it, as she fixed my eyes. That would probably mean that I had permanently altered my sweat glands to produce green and viscous gunk.

Now that I write it down it doesn’t feel half as cool a deduction as it did at the time. Anyway, I had a new class and I was excited.
