Chapter 33

All my song goals having been achieved, the next week sees me alternating between voraciously reading down below at night and exploring the streets above at dawn and dusk. I’ve made a great deal of progress methodically appraising absolutely everything I can find.

This also led to greatly developing my vocabulary for the big one’s strange and backwards world. Having maximized the song, the various merchant writings I’ve collected provide useful strategies for continuing its development further. Apparently reading, discussing, and listening to others' conversations will continuously develop the descriptions provided via status in an untracked fashion. Meaning that there’s no song levels to watch progress. The status will simply formalize any explanations that it generates from my collective memories and mental capacity.

However, that said, there are still a few options for explicit advancement with the following synthesis songs: Deduction, Estimation, and Evaluation.

Deduction allows status to reach complex conclusions by combining the appraisal song with your senses. Any sense songs can support this and more are constantly being discovered. The more developed appraisal’s collection of knowledge and your sense songs become, the better that Deduction will perform. However, the synthesis song itself can also be honed and developed further, with many milestones opening more and more doors within the appraisal status display.

Estimation, on the other hand, combines appraisal with your current collection of songs, searching for resonance in others. For example, if I have a sufficient Estimation song developed along with my spacial transformation, then the status can judge an appraised person’s song development with respect to my own. As in more, less, or the same. A particularly good song for those looking to pick their fights wisely.

Finally, Evaluation is very special. It’s a song that connects appraisal directly with the status of a target. This means that it can pull information that wouldn’t otherwise be knowable with any combination of the other songs. For example, a big one’s name upon first meeting them. There’s technically no limit to Evaluation, and many of its specialties can further develop the information that can be stolen. Because of this, it easily trumps the other alternative appraisal song options in utility. However, it’s also incredibly difficult to acquire and level. Direct recognition from status is required to even begin working with it. Recognition comes from things like special accomplishments. However, none of the books seem to know anything more about the subject.

Therefore, in the short term, Evaluation is sadly out. However, both Deduction and Estimation are trivial to acquire, if still difficult to level. Apparently, all I needed to do was maximize the Appraisal song and then read two chapters that generally explained the details about each.

With these, the books said I should finally be able to appraise living creatures.

The first attempt does indeed appear accurate, if not very helpful. As with any other song, it must be practiced and leveled before its utility shows. In this case, that means collecting as much knowledge and experience as I can while continuing to regularly appraise, encouraging breakthrough opportunities for the syntheses.

Of course, throughout all of this I continue my priority obsession.

Now at level 4, space almost effortlessly responds to my gestures and movements. I can pull long enough strips of it to wrap entirely around a single copper coin, causing it to completely disappear. However, after about a minute, it pops and the coin reappears. It doesn’t make a sound, but the suddenness usually takes me by surprise. Given the description, this means that I’ve successfully created a spacial pocket. Although, it won’t be very useful until the next level.

On the other hand, hitting spacial perception at level 5 made a huge difference. Strolling down the village’s main street, I spy a number of glowing wisps trailing close behind a big one as if obedient, little puppies.

Ha! I’m right. As with the foundation song, level 5 for spacial perception allows me to passively see the spacial songs of others. I don’t have the full status integration yet, so these details must be coming via Deduction and Estimation. That’s also probably why they’re so vague.

Is that the dream? Trivially carrying all of your treasures nearby everywhere you go. Safely concealed in a perfect little pocket, stored away from everyone’s prying eyes and hands. Although, the book mentioned that others can also unfold my pocket? This big one’s pockets are also clear as day, so that probably means he could see mine too! No, no, no! Musn’t carry all my treasures in my pockets then. Some must always be carefully hidden under the protection of wherever home lives that day.

Actually, isn’t that the difference for anchoring at level 10? Starting with the next level, I can only create stationary pockets at home, which does help to hide my treasures. Sure, a spacial specialist could find and maybe also open them. However, the manual made it sound as if those people are very rare. Therefore, this song will definitely be very useful for hiding things. Also, useful for keeping delicate things up out of the mud.

The last week was very productive, but many tasks are slowing down. Higher specialties and syntheses really are significantly more difficult to level than foundation songs. It’s easy to power through something like a new mixing concept, but it’s probably better to pace myself on these other more complicated songs.

After all, an entire week for one level of spacial transformation is frustrating given all my past leaps and bounds. However, I’ll never stop playing with this joyous substance. Every waking hour, I’ll keep toying with it nonstop. I’ll eventually pocket everything I see!
