Wistful Music

  Smiles

Instead of going back to my room, I accompanied Atreya to hers. She looked stressed and deserved some comfort.

We flopped onto her bed and she buried her face in my side.

  “That was scary,” She mumbled.

“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” I said, rubbing her back.

“It’s okay,” She told me. “You kept me safe.”

I smiled and brushed her hair out of her face, turning her head to look at me. She was blushing intensely, and her eyes widened at my actions.

“Would you like me to sing for you?” I asked. “I’ll have to be quiet, because it's kind of te.”

“What if we went to the music hall and you sang there?” She suggested, perking up. “Please?”

“Sure,” I said with a smile. “I need to tell my partners first.” She nodded, and we left her room.

First, we went to my apartment, where I let the others know that I was going to sing in public before all five of us went to the music cssroom.

Scarlet ended up with Atreya on her p, with Kathyrine and Nara on either side of her. I was setting up the instruments I needed, infusing them with my magic to py alongside me. Instead of a guitar, I was pying a piano.

A crowd had gathered around by the time I was ready. I smiled and began to py. (Py the song now to listen along.)

The first beats of the drum echoed through the room.

  I began to sing.

“Give me a second, I-I need to get my story straight-”

“My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State-”

“My lover, she is waiting for me just across the bar-”

“My seat's been taken by some sungsses asking 'bout her scar and-”

“I know I gave it to you months ago…”

  “I know you're trying to forget…”

“But between the drinks and subtle things- the holes in my apologies, you know I'm trying hard to take it back…”

“So if by the time… the bar closes… and you feel like falling down…”

  “I'll carry you home-”

  “Tonight… We are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

  “Tonight… we are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

“Now I know that, I'm not, all that you got… I guess that I, I just thought… maybe we could find new ways to fall apart.”

“But our friends are back, so let's raise a toast, 'cause I found someone to carry me home…”

  “Tonight… we are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

  “Tonight… we are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

“Carry me home tonight… Just carry me home tonight.”

“Carry me home tonight… Just carry me home tonight.”

“The moon is on my side… I have no reason to run.”

“So will someone come and carry me home tonight?” Here, I looked directly at Atreya, making her blush.

“The angels never arrived, but I can hear the choir.”

“So will someone come and carry me home?” Another gnce at Atreya.

  “Tonight… we are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

  “Tonight… we are young…”

“So let's set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun…”

I left the instruments behind, letting them continue to py as I walked toward Atreya.

“So if by the time the bar closes, and you feel like falling down…”

I grabbed her hands with mine and looked into her eyes. She nodded.

  “I'll carry you home tonight…”

And as the music ended, I created a burst of white smoke and unched into the air with her, spiraling up and away into the sky.

We soon nded at a small courtyard that was close to her room and went inside.

When we were on her bed again, she curled into me.

  “I love you,” She whispered.
