Birth

Eons passed: infinite universes came and went, yet the gods fought a constant war amongst themselves, all fighting for the two agents of creation; the book of chaos, and the eyes of infinity.

Being the physical manifestation of the collective conscious, both agents held immense power; power, to bend the fabric of reality and command existence itself. The book of chaos was the only thing the gods were capable of getting their hands on, as for the eyes of infinity; no one knew of their whereabouts.

The book however, fell into the hands of the grand priestess, a powerful sorceress who knew how to work with the book; any inexperienced individual attempting to use it, would inevitably meet their demise, because the book’s power is highly dependent on probability.

Only when used in conjunction with the book of harmony, could the book’s power be used with maximum efficiency; a concept that the rest of the gods unfortunately knew nothing about. Therefore, each god that had blindly lusted for its power; inevitably met their demise.

On earth, a baby is born a premature birth. He was placed in an incubator and it took some time for him to grow. His parents named him Xavier, and his eyes were pale white.

His parents thought as though he were blind, and were aiming towards taking him to a special school, but his doctor’s advised against this, as Xavier could see better than anyone else in the room, and at often time’s, would see things that were not present.

His mother: being an overly devoted Christian, was led to believe that for this reason alone, Xavier, was special. Growing up, Xavier was led to believe otherwise: constantly being bullied for his size at school, the colour of his eyes, and at often times, by unrighteous souls, for the colour of his skin, being a person of colour.

As for his size, Xavier tried so desperately to change that, but try as he must; he always looked malnourished and never understood why. Shaken to the bone by this unfair reality, Xavier, fell into depression.

During his high school years, Xavier’s depression had left him: eventually discovering a passion for studying Physics, his size didn’t matter as much, as the people he made friends with, didn’t look so good either; so, they were in no position to judge.

Xavier wasn’t completely freed from bullying though; whenever the time came for gym class, there would be no escaping it.

Xavier tried to seek help from multiple doctors about it, but all their efforts would prove not so fruitful, as they found nothing wrong with him, matter of fact; Xavier was in the best condition feasible despite looking so weak.

Eventually, changes began to take place in Xavier and the changes, gradually fell further down the rabbit hole. During gym class, a group of bullies decided it would be a good idea to tease him into throwing a tennis ball they had brought with them to the outdoor track; saying that with the way he looked, he wouldn’t be able to get it across the first five meters on the track.

Something, in Xavier, clicked; he grew tired of the teasing and name calling, being ignored by a majority of the class and only receiving the worst kind of attention when given.

Xavier, simply had enough and so out of frustration, picked the ball up, and threw it into orbit.

Everyone who witnessed this was left awestruck. As for Xavier, he too could not believe what he had just done; perhaps he was special, but just how special was he?

On his way home, Xavier stumbled upon a group of thugs that planned to rob him, but Xavier wasn’t planning on backing down.

After what he did at school, Xavier was in a prolonged state of euphoria that gave him the confidence needed, to take on any, who stood in his way. Xavier stood his ground, and contested the men.

The thugs laughed at him and pulled out a knife, saying they’d give him exactly what he was looking for. With little to no effort, the thugs quickly restrained and stabbed Xavier several times.

After they were done, the look of fear, shock and regret, quickly plagued their faces; coming to the realization that they had in fact, stabbed one of their own.

As for Xavier, he walked by a long time ago; only turning to see the chaos that had unfolded. Little did Xavier know, that this was an impulse of the eyes of infinity.

Impulses of the eyes were an involuntary response that manifested anything from the user’s imagination; normally in attempt to protect them, but at often times, these impulses would unexpectedly bring forth an inexperienced user’s thoughts, a dangerous spell for disaster.

The impulses of the eyes of infinity continued way more often than not, but nothing too noticeable to cause any harm; until one day, when a matter of great concern arrived.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Xavier was in a physics class by the time chaos was about to ensue. His teacher began explaining the fundamentals of quantum mechanics when an article Xavier read had come to mind, an article, explaining nuclear fission.

The eyes responded and Xavier began seeing atoms in vivid detail. Everything down to the atoms position, to their velocity, simultaneously; the Heisenberg uncertainty principle mattered little to Xavier.

What worried Xavier most in that present moment, was whether or not what he saw was real, because if it was; then the lives of everyone present within that classroom, was at stake. A classmate who normally sat behind Xavier, but never really interacted with him, noticed his panicking.

Xavier was about to split the atom, when at the right moment, she intervened, “A little too early to be day dreaming, don’t you think?”

Xavier, visibly panicking and breathing heavily said, “Th- there was a particle and uh, uh-”

Natalie interrupted him, “Relax. The particles won’t hurt you, it’s just a physics class.”

Xavier gathered his thoughts together, trying to catch his breath, “You know what, yeah- I think you’re right. Yeah, right. You’re definitely right,” Xavier let off a seemingly crazed chuckle that left Natalie perplexed.

“Okay uhm, try to regulate whatever medication they’re giving you,” Natalie said, leaving Xavier visibly sweating, and still trying to catch his breath.

The bell rang, signaling for break. Relieved, Xavier caught his breath and continued to convince himself that what he saw was all in his head, but as soon as he blinked, began seeing in Infrared.

“Oh, god,” Xavier said to himself, as panic slowly began to settle in once more; his sweat returned and his heart began to race once more. Xavier tried Squinting and squeezing his eyes in a desperate attempt to convince himself that what he saw wasn’t real, but the more he tried, the more far-fetched that reality became.

Xavier spent the entire lunch break constantly squinting and blinking, scaring his peers to the point where they too began to think that he was on some strong, unprescribed medication.

Xavier made his way sulking towards his locker as lunch break was finally over. Still unable to see clearly, Xavier gathered every book present and made his way towards class. It was then, that Xavier noticed something strange going on behind the classroom wall.

Seeing as his vision was still in infrared: Xavier was able to see the collective of heat signatures gathered close by the classroom door; ready to pour an ice bucket over his head, evident by the drop in temperature that the group was handling by a rope.

As soon as the group signaled his coming, Xavier walked right behind a teacher making their way towards his class. The prank failed miserably, as it was the teacher whom ended up falling victim to their tomfoolery instead.

The pupils behind it got into trouble for doing so, as for Xavier; he could rest easy now seeing as his eyes had finally returned to normal.

The class got a free period because of the incident, and Xavier was praised for being so keen as not to fall victim, “I bet those ghost eyes saved you this time, how did you know they were going to do that?” Natalie asked.

“I don’t know, intuition I guess,” Xavier replied.

Meanwhile, two men in black with sunglasses on; stood outside monitoring the radiation coming from the school.

Every time the eyes activated; they would give off large amounts of gamma radiation, something that the two men knew well.

Xavier arrived home quite late, as what occurred earlier that day; lead him to have more conversations with Natalie, who, he gradually took more of a liking too.

Xavier’s mood eventually took a nose dive, overhearing a conversation between his mother, and two unfamiliar voices. In order to hear more, Xavier leaned in closer to the living room door.

The men talked about Xavier having a special gift given to him by the lord in order to do his will, and that he’d be wasting his potential if he continued to live a normal life.

The men suggested that Xavier would be better off in their hands, and that they’d have to take him away, to which his mother, hesitantly agreed.

Emotions began boiling in Xavier, confused and not knowing what to do, he rudely interrupted, “Mom!” Xavier breathed heavily. “What’s going on?”

Xavier’s mother got up in distress, and slowly approached him, “Honey, look; I’ve always known, that there was something special about you, and these,” she looked at the men, then back at Xavier. “These men said that they could help you!”

Xavier, still confused said, “Wha- What about my friends? What about you? What about dad! You’re- you’re really just going to let them take me away?” Xavier's voice trembled as tears began to fill his eyes.

His mother spoke up with haste, as she too began tearing up, “I’m doing this for you!” she gasped for air.

“As a mother, I just want what’s best for you! It’s been tough for you, I know; it’s been tough for me too. There's all these, things happening to you that I- that I just don’t understand. I pray for you, every day! I do.”

“I love you with all my heart, with all my soul and if things were any different, I would never, and I mean never! let you go! But this, this must be the answer to all of my prayers; so please, just go with them! They seem to know more than I ever could!”

Xavier’s mother was quite the devoted Christian, something the two men knew well, and took advantage of; given Xavier's physical appearance, they were able to come up with convincing arguments on why he’d be better off in their hands.

The older man: with a long, white and lustrous beard, spoke in a deep, calm voice, “It’s okay mam, we never said he has to agree with you; after all, the greatest choices often do require the strongest wills.”

The younger man accompanying him, shot Xavier down with a blow dart, and Xavier fell, unconscious.

Noticing her quivering, the old man said, “It’s okay mam, I know it’s hard, but you’re doing the right thing. Personally, I never planned for things to happen this way, but desperate times do call for desperate measures,” the younger man accompanying him, proceeded to take Xavier away.

Xavier’s mother: although worried, believed this to be the best course of action; not once had it bothered her head to talk it over with Xavier’s father, so the two had a long night by the time he got home. As for Xavier, this was only the beginning.
