20 Prepare For Adventure

It was difficult for Danny to argue that his detox while unpleasant didn’t have a beneficial effect on his health. His skin gained a certain luster and cleared up in various pces, it even felt smooth to the touch. His hair had also gained a new sheen. Even his breathing felt easier. Over the next few days, he noticed even his knee that had been bum since high school was now better than before. In all, he felt significantly healthier. However, that did not mean Danny was happy being used as a test subject. And while he did admit that breaking his arm was his own fault he never directly admitted how he broke his arm. Danny used this favor as leverage against his brother and eventually after more than a few discussions over the next couple of days, the result was a compromise, the two brothers were going on a little expedition. Danny wanted to see more monsters and James wanted to see the Dogemen. So, the two would be going to the dungeon from the video that Mrs. Smith had shown him or as James started calling it the Wolf’s Den.

The brothers stood in the living room, their father had gone to work, and their mother had gone grocery shopping. While James had tried to convince her to just let him get the groceries Diana rejected him more than a dozen times. Life was continuing along as normal- as normal as it could right now. However, now that the cat's are away, the mice would py.

After James spent a few minutes connecting his ptop to the living room TV on screen was the image of the shooting range that Danny had seen a few days ago. James walked over to the TV putting his hand inside before ushering Danny inside. Once inside, Danny was shocked by the equipment. “What’s with the military-grade equipment”?

It was clear to James that Danny was still viewing this more like their yearly hunting trips with their father, not a life-and-death situation that could result in their demise, that is if James didn't cheat. He had yet to grasp the gravity of a dungeon dive and the dangers they represented. “Danny these aren’t deer. If anything, they have an intelligence closer to or greater than wolves.” James said as he started tying back his shaggy hair away from his eyes before turning towards his brother, “Do you know where their vitals are? How do they react when injured? Are they aggressive? Are they intelligent? These are unknown creatures coming from god knows where.” While all of this was purely conjecture, the occasional yearly deer had nothing in common with monsters that were more than capable of tearing them limb from limb. There was even the possibility that they could think about how to do so, though how intelligent these creatures were was still up for debate.

"… Ok I see your point.” This was different from the hunting Danny was used to. There was the possibility that his life was on the line, and it was still hard for him to process that fully. Danny started wearing the military kevr camoufged pants, steel-toed combat boots, and a hip holster with a heavy-looking sidearm. Danny saw a strange cloth in the pile, "What's this?" he asked James holding up the silvery silken material that he had never seen before.

"I knew you'd ask." James said holding up his own, "It's called Soft Armor, mystically enchanted and resistant to impact." He said giving one of the sleeves a pull, "Basically, Ki-based magic chainmail.” While it looked like an ordinary white shirt fashioned from some sort of silk, it would adjust to the wearer fitting their body perfectly, was resistant to small arms fire, point bnk birdshot from a shotgun fell motionless after hitting it, and even took several minutes to minigun fire without issue. Even with all the testing James had already gone through he was unsure it would prevent the wearer from getting the wind knocked out of their lungs. (The impact for that would be…).

After they were mostly geared up, James had Danny pick out the guns they would be using for the afternoon. Going over the selection was quite overwhelming for him and after learning of the Sci-Fi origin of the throwing star that broke his arm Danny eventually settled on normal combat shotguns. It was easier to go with what he knew. After handing the gun over he watched as James quickly modified the simple combat shotgun into a weapon worthy of its name. After The modifications were done he pced a Poroid camera at the base of the stock clicking the button a photo came out, James wasted no time as he pced his hand into the photo causing the still-developing picture to finish seemingly instantly developing before pulling out his gun for the hunt. All that was left was ammo which James rapidly started filling a drum with shotgun slugs while Danny was busy staring at a green spotted mushroom.

(The ammo drum might have been a bit over the top) Danny thought while he stared at a strange mushroom. It stared at him. He blinked. It blinked. "I have to eat this"?

"If you want to go, yes," James replied as he turned around watching Danny holding his nose while opening his mouth wide as he brought the 1UP to his mouth. Once he finished chewing and swallowed he heard a familiar jingle in his ear as a green 1UP appeared above his head. Having finished his lifesaving meal "..." and with some time to process the noise his eyes widened, "Was that-"

"Yes, yes it was," James said with a smirk.

Once they were suited up and ready they returned to the living room both fully equipped James started up the video on the living room TV. “Alright, doors open, don’t forget to jump,” James said as he pced his hand into the screen.

“Do I really have to jump?” Danny asked not wanting to facepnt like he did the st time.

“The exit point is the camera, which is currently being held by the guy taking the video”.

“Is that going to be a problem”?

“No, there will still be the exit screen floating around me (most likely). Now that you mention it, I would like to see if the camera still acts as an exit point. If you can, please grab it before the guy runs”?

“Haaaa, alright.” Letting out a sigh, Danny jumped into the rge TV screen and was soon followed by James. When James appeared, he seemed to come from nowhere as the strange box appeared in mid-air. Landing his feet on the ground after jumping inside. "Ok. you need to expin that to me!" Danny demanded.

  "What?" James asked.

Following Danny's expnation, it appears James would have to revise some of his notes on his ability. When Danny appeared, he was ejected from the phone camera. As James had presumed so far. But James had appeared in a different method, the exit screen was his entrance, not the camera. (Was it from him holding the video open like a door? Or was it because they interfered? Causing the camera to no longer exist in the same pce...) James pondered with his hand on his chin. "What happened to the Phone?" He asked.

“As soon as I appeared that little Asian man took off like a bat outa hell”.

“Right," that would be the normal reaction to seeing someone coming out of your phone. (He ran away... And stopped the video?... Which caused the entrance point to close?). "A manual would be nice," James noted under his breath.

Trying to get James back to reality Danny asked “So where are we”?

“Somewhere in Southeast Asia. Around China and Korea, that was the best I could track it down. Also, here’s the st item.”

  “You still have more”?

“My job right now is to act as a guide and make sure you don’t end up dead." (It's why I had you eat an extra life!) James shouted internally. "I do not want to have an ‘I killed my brother’ talk with Mom,” James said as he fished out two silver-colored ball-shaped mushrooms out of his pockets.

"What are those?" Danny asked as he was handed the chrome ball.

"A power-up, like the mushroom you ate a second ago."

Putting it into his mouth James began to chew. They had a rather appealing crunch. However, they tasted like iron. “Gah, it’s like when you get blood in your mouth,” Danny added. After swallowing the mushrooms, the duo stood still for a moment as a chrome-colored liquid seeped from their pores and covered their bodies. Like they were dipped in chrome paint, that wasn’t the only change as they quickly noticed the added weight as their feet had sunk into the soft dirt floor. Danny looked himself over noticing how his clothes didn't move away from his body but still allowed for movement. As he began moving he soon noticed something, putting hands together and moving them back and forth they began producing sparks. “Cool..." He said as the small sparks produced from his hands were thrown about. After the small novelty wore off “doesn’t this defeat the whole point of camo?” He asked.

“Touche. Anyway, our first query for the day should be up ahead”.

After a short walk, they were close enough to see the roof of the crumbling house. After a few more feet they were close enough to see it between the foliage. Standing at somewhere between 6’5 and 6’8 (It was taller than Danny) was the canine-headed bck-furred 'Dogeman'. Normally such a sight would have been frightening. Spotting a real-life werewolf however, neither of the boys were giving the creature it’s just reaction. As neither had any fear towards it, and Danny hadn’t already put a hole in its chest.

Danny's shot, however, was off by a few inches missing its vitals instead taking out a chunk of its shoulder. The wolf was rapidly searching for what caused its pain. After a fraction of a second, it turned towards the two brothers and was rapidly approaching. However, it was soon met with another round of shotgun fire.

This time, now properly aimed, putting a hole in its chest. Even so, the beast began to cw its way toward them refusing to die. As the beast's movements slowed to a crawl stopping less than a few feet in front of them. “I think I understand the Goblin range a little better now.” Danny didn’t know why James had a goblin in the shooting range, but he could guess. With a hole like that in its chest, it's still trying to attack them. When the beast finally hit the floor and while Danny was still trying to come to grips with what he had done James had wasted no time taking out the rge pistol in his holster.

*Pop* Shooting a werewolf in the head.

  “Gross.” Both commented.
