Darkness

Rinaye woke up in darkness. She couldn't feel anything around her. She was cold and afraid. The darkness was both scary and comforting at the same time like a blanket that kept her safe from unknown horrors. She couldn't see anything either. She could feel her clothing and her skin but when she reached outwards she felt nothing. Was she dead? Did everyone die? Where was she? Dead by the age of five, she couldn't believe it. What a good for nothing that life was. She had a second chance and she wasted it, all she did was lay around waiting for something to happen. She spent two years in a place with no friends but Allison and her brother and three years with wonderful people who took care of her, but she never saw them again. Why was she even there, to satisfy some god's whim? Was she some fancy toy for some powerful being to play house with? To Rinaye, she might as well been with how crummy she felt about herself.

Darkness was everywhere. Was this what being dead felt like? The whole being dead thing was weird. She was still the same, same hands, same hair, same shoes, same dress but everything around her was gone, replaced with a black empty void.

"Allison?" she called out, hoping for some kind of answer. "Are you there?"

A soft pink light filled the room. Rinaye could see her surroundings now. It looked like a cylinder, that was pointy on both ends. The one below her seemed to become a point suddenly, like a circler roof, on the ground. The walls high above her seemed to tighten as they went upwards, forming a gradual point at the top. The cylinder was completely hollow leaving her floating in the middle of it all.

"Rinaye? Are you awake? Please be awake!" Allison's voice called out from somewhere in the darkness.

"Yeah, I'm awake." She told her.

"Thank the heavens! I though I lost you! Hold on let me get over there!" Her voice cut off, it must have been transmitted from somewhere. Only about five minutes later a door opened on the side of the building. Allison ran over, seemingly on nothing to Rinaye, her was breath short and heavy.

"Are you okay?" Allison asked her friend.

"Yes, I am." Rinaye replied, almost tearing up. "I was so scared Allison... What happened?"

"The Duke put you to sleep and locked you in a tower," Allison told her.

"Seriously?" Rinaye asked. "This isn't turning in to Rapunzel, right?" Rinaye wiped her tears.

"You can always cut your hair." Allison retorted.

The tension was broken and in that moment they laughed.

"Do they have Rapunzel here?" Rinaye asked still recovering from the laughter.

"I don't think they do!" They both laughed again about the absurdity of the situation.

"Can you believe this happened?" Rinaye laughed still chuckling. "How did we even get in this situation?"

"I don't know!" Allison said still laughing.

"Soo, are you gonna get me down or what?" Rinaye asked gesturing to the fact she was stuck floating in mid air.

"Of course! You won't believe how easy it was to get in here! It was just a 'complicated' barrier!" She told her excitedly.

Rinaye dropped from mid air and landed on what seemed to be an invisible platform.

"Soo, are we just going to stay here?" Rinaye asked.

"Honestly, it's not a bad idea. You could remodel, make it your dream home! And it's not like anyone's going to get inside without your or my help." Rinaye thought out loud.

"Huh, you're not wrong. Could you help me with that?" Rinaye asked.

"OF COURSE. I love decorating stuff." She shouted cheerfully.

  "Let's get started then!"

The kitchen was a mess and Sabrina knew it. She was transferred here two years ago after the kid was taken by her father and it sucked. The work was hard, Nina was no where in sight, and the pay wasn't even better. The only thing good about it was the Head Chef, who was both really nice and really hot. Not that Sabrina would go for it of course. The Chef was not someone to be in a relationship with. They did talk a lot despite that. They got along right at the start when Sabrina told them where she was transferred from. The Head Ched was very sympathetic towards the kid, always saying how it was unfair that a kid got locked up. Even after the most recent events it was their belief that it was The Duke's fault for neglecting her so much that her only friend was a demon.

Sabrina appreciated this point of view. So, when a letter arrived from the kid, asking for a favor from the kitchen. Sabrina took it directly to them.
