Chapter 11: High-altitude Adventure: The Journey Home

Lin Yu knew full well that once he was scratched by a zombie and infected with the virus, he would also turn into one of them. He quietly approached the zombies, drew out the insect blade from behind, bent down, and rushed forward, creating a strong gust of wind. With a twist of his body, he held the blade in his left hand and slashed upwards like a bolt of lightning at the necks of the three nearest zombies.

As the insect blade was swung rapidly, it sliced through the air, leaving behind streaks of cold light. In an instant, three heads were severed. These zombies seemed to have only the instinct to feed. Facing the attack, they neither dodged nor counterattacked but just mechanically reached out their hands to grab Lin Yu. "Puff, puff," in the continuous sound of the blade slicing, the neck bones of the nearby several zombies were all cut off, and their bodies fell down like puppets. Lin Yu's strikes were extremely fast, and several slashes were connected into one, sounding like a clear and crisp knife clang.

After dealing with the zombies in front of him, Lin Yu began to search inside the building. When he encountered a lone zombie, he would deal with it casually; when he came across a troublesome one, he would choose to avoid it. After collecting enough fire hoses, Lin Yu came to an office on a suitable floor of the building. He picked up a chair and smashed it hard against the floor-to-ceiling window. The moment the glass shattered, the howling wind rushed in, giving Lin Yu, who was covered in blood and sweat, a boost of energy.

The place wasn't too far from Lin Yu's villa, but the connecting roads were filled with insect beasts and zombies. A brilliant idea flashed through Lin Yu's mind. Since the land route was blocked, he could go through the air. He speculated that the insect beasts didn't have the ability to fly for the time being.

Thinking of this, a faint smile played on the corner of Lin Yu's mouth. Just then, the sound of the shattered glass attracted a large number of zombies. Lin Yu had already blocked the office door with sundries. Although this defense line wouldn't hold for long, it was enough for him to carry out his plan.

Lin Yu estimated the angle and distance, tied the fire axe tightly with the fire hose, and pulled it hard. After confirming the firmness of the rope, he bent down to gather strength, let out a loud shout, and threw the axe towards a small building in the distance. Fortunately, the axe got stuck in a sturdy place precisely. Lin Yu tried pulling it several times but couldn't tug it back.

At this time, the zombies were almost breaking through the door, and there were also several insect beasts among the horde of zombies. They waved their leg blades and cut several large slashes on the door in just a few strokes. Lin Yu quickly tied the other end of the fire hose to a metal rod on the ground, took off his shirt, rolled it into a rope, and put it over the fire hose. After taking a deep breath, he leaped into the air and slid down from the skyscraper. It was like riding a simple high-speed cable car, speeding towards the relatively low-rise building area.

The howling wind slapped against Lin Yu's face, and the high-speed sliding made it almost impossible for him to open his eyes. I don't know how long it had passed, but Lin Yu vaguely saw a wall ahead. He quickly clamped the hose with his legs to slow down the sliding speed. At this moment, he had already reached the designated location. If he hadn't slowed down in time, he would have probably smashed his head and bled.

After landing, Lin Yu let out a long sigh of relief. The feeling of entrusting his life to fate during the high-altitude sliding was truly terrifying. He looked back and saw that the floor he had just left was already occupied by zombies and insect beasts. Several zombies, due to their low intelligence, fell from the floor, while the insect beasts stood there, angrily waving their leg blades, venting their killing intent.

One of the insect beasts seemed extremely unwilling about Lin Yu's escape and swung its blade to cut off the hose that Lin Yu had tied to the metal rod. Seeing this, Lin Yu was delighted. This actually saved him the time to find the hose and make tools again.

After that, relying on the fire hose in his hand, Lin Yu glided in the air of the city several times. At first, he was a bit nervous, but after doing it many times, he gradually got used to this kind of adventure. After all, an ordinary person with some training could carry out high-altitude gliding safely, not to mention that Lin Yu's physical and psychological qualities were far beyond those of an ordinary person.

After several glides, Lin Yu gradually got closer to his villa. He looked for areas where there were relatively fewer insect beasts and zombies and continued to glide. Since the private land around the villa was quite large and there were no tall buildings nearby, Lin Yu had to give up the high-altitude gliding.

However, Lin Yu wasn't afraid of a small-scale horde of zombies. He maneuvered nimbly, engaging in a battle of wits with the zombies, and gradually cleared a path to the villa. Thinking that Su Yao might be waiting for him in the villa, a warm feeling welled up in Lin Yu's heart, and his tired body was filled with strength.
